Robert Pattinson The Batman to recommence production on 6 July 2020?

image host

According to Production List, The Batman will recommence production on 6 July 2020. I hope that’s true and that all involved remain healthy and safe. Although someone needs to tell Production List that Jonah Hill isn’t one of the cast members #justsaying. Thanks to DC Movie News for the heads up.

Also, IMDbPro updated “Filming as at 3 June 2020 (on hold)”, but I’m assuming that was in response to the UK putting together its COVID-19 safety plans for productions to recommence. Stay tuned for more updates on The Batman.

Robert Pattinson The Devil All the Time Releasing later this year

image host

As we have previously posted, rumours surfaced earlier this year that The Devil All the Time may premiere at Cannes and have a 15 May 2020 release on Netflix. As we fast approach 15 May 2020, it is obvious that that release date will not eventuate. Netflix are yet to release a trailer for the film. According to a recent interview with one of Rob’s costars, Jason Collett, who portrays Gary Matthew Bryson, in 5 Things To Do Today:

Breakout movie star Jason Collett will be appearing in the upcoming star-packed gothic noir drama THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME opposite Tom Holland, Haley Bennett, Robert Pattison, Bill Skarsgård, Jason Clarke and Riley Keough, written and directed by Antonio Campos (THE SINNER), premiering on Netflix later this year [My emphasis].

COVID-19 has caused a large number of release dates to be delayed. It may make more sense to release the film in the latter part of the year. Remember some countries will also have a “limited theatrical release“. According to Netflix Life:

It has long been anticipated that The Devil All the Time would arrive on Netflix in mid-May with a May 15 premiere date attached to the film. However, the long-speculated release date for the film was disproved when it was missing from Netflix’s list of May 2020 releases.

Unless Netflix plans on announcing the film’s arrival in a solo announcement, a move that is unlikely, it seems likely we’ll have to wait until at least summer or possibly even fall before the film arrives. One factor in the decision not to release the film on May 15 could be Netflix’s acquisition of the Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani led comedy The Lovebirds, which was originally slated to hit theaters but moved to Netflix due to ongoing theater closures.

The Lovebirds is going to be a huge release for Netflix, as is The Devil All the Time so it makes sense that Netflix would want to put some space between the two films. With the fate of this summer’s movie slate still in flux, Netflix dropping The Devil All the Time during the summer seems to be a likely option given its all-star cast and global appeal.

What we also know currently is:

  • Netflix still hasn’t updated their website (it still shows Chris Evans as cast);
  • Nine Stories Production has not included it in their “coming soon“;
  • The MPAA in the US has given it an R Rating;
  • No classification has been given for Australian release as yet nor for the UK; and
  • IMDbPro is still showing current status as “post production” as at 15 April 2019.

Robert Pattinson collaboration with Claire Denis obtains support from Arte France Cinéma

image host

From Cineuropa:

The second selection committee for 2020 of Arte France Cinéma (headed by Olivier Père) has chosen to engage in co-production and in pre-buying on five projects.

Arte France Cinéma will also support Claire Denis’ The Stars at Noon, which Wild Bunch has already begun pre-selling in February at the EFM of the Berlinale (read the news). The director has written the script with Léa Mysius, freely adapting the eponymous American novel from Denis Johnson. The story centres on the passionate relationship between a young American journalist working in a troubled country in central America, between corruption, political intrigue and disastrous relationships, and an English businessman watched by the CIA. The cast should include Robert Pattinson (already heading the cast in Denis’ previous film High Life [+]) and Margaret Qualley, with production handled by Curiosa Films.

Jeffrey Wright Talks Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves “The Batman” with Collider

image host

Collider recently interviewed Jeffrey Wright about Westworld during which he provided some details on The Batman. Here’s what Jeffrey shared:

When it comes to The Batman, how would you say that your James Gordon compares to previous on screen iterations of that character?

WRIGHT: There have been some really wonderful actors who have played this role. Gary Oldman, who I first worked with on Basquiat, is one of my absolute, very specific inspirations, early on, as a young actor. He inhabits a shelf unto himself, in my regard. So, I’m pretty stoked to have been asked to play a role that he played, and other great actors, but I don’t think that a comparison would be justified. The reason being is because what’s wonderful about these iterations of Batman is that they go back to 1939, and there’s been an evolution of these characters, since the beginning. The characters and the stories have reflected the times and social dynamics, in which they were created. As far as the films go, the characters, I feel, are very much specific to the interpretation of Gotham. And so, what I do is going to be very specific to Matt Reeves’ vision of Gotham, and it’s going to be reflective of what Robert Pattinson’s Batman is going to be. To pluck one character out of the whole, is a forced idea. All of us are working together to create a tone and a language and an energy and a vibe that is specific to our film. That’s what we were in the middle of doing when the alarm sounded that at least we Americans needed to get the hell out of there, so that we could get back home. That’s where we are right now, very much in the middle of things. [My emphasis]

Robert Pattinson #TheBatman Filming Updates

image host

I will update this post with filming changes as and when they happen with the most recent update at the top of the thread.

UPDATED: 26 MARCH 2020

I was only saying yesterday that with the UK on lock down surely The Batman filming won’t resume on 30 March 2020. This morning Matt Reeves confirmed that indeed filming has been shutdown. Hope they all stay healthy and safe as that’s what is more important.

UPDATED: 15 MARCH 2020

Many news sites are now reporting the hiatus, but Deadline had the exclusive:

Warner Bros. joins other studios in temporarily stopping production on big pics, the latest being the studio’s reboot of The Batman starring Robert Pattinson in the title role.

Word was that production was re-locating from London to Liverpool in the UK and out of safety in the current coronavirus climate, Warners just decided to halt shooting for the time being. Again, no one from the cast or crew has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“Warner Bros. Pictures feature production of The Batman will be on a two-week hiatus starting today. The studio will continue to monitor the situation closely” the Burbank lot informed in a statement.
