Warner Bros Delays #Tenet Release to 12 August 2020

imgbox

Rumours surfaced this morning that the release date for Tenet would be pushed back to August given the current spikes in COVID-19 cases in the US. Variety is now reporting and has confirmed that the release in August is no longer a rumour:

Warner Bros. has once again pushed back the release date for Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet.” It’s the second delay for the highly anticipated blockbuster that has been primed to reignite moviegoing after lengthy cinema closures due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The movie, which cost $200 million, was initially slated to arrive in theaters on July 17, but was later postponed until July 31. Now, it will be released on Aug. 12 — unless cases of the virus continue to rapidly spread across the country and the studio no longer deems it safe to unveil a major movie at that time.

“Warner Bros. is committed to bringing ‘Tenet’ to audiences in theaters, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it’s time,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release. We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy.”

Zoe Kravitz Talks Robert Pattinson & The Batman

image host

Marc Malkin from The Big Ticket recently spoke with Zoe Kravitz. This is what she had to say about Rob being perfect for Batman according to Variety:

Why is Robert Pattinson perfect to play Batman?

Good question. First of all, he’s just a really good actor. He started out as this kind of teen pop sensation, and then I think we all kind of saw through his work that there was a lot more going on. He’s a really interesting artist, and that is very much Batman in a way. We have the illusion of Bruce Wayne, and then we have Batman in the shadows that has a lot more complicated things going on. So just in that, I think he’s perfect for this role. He can relate in that way, and he looks good in the suit, man. He looks good in the suit. That’s a good jaw line. But he’s just a great actor and he brings so much to everything he does. I think that it’s a really hard role because people are expecting a lot. Also it’s restricting in a lot of ways. You’re wearing the suit, and you can’t see their eyes, and you can only move in a certain way. So you have to get really creative in terms of how can you portray a multidimensional character? He’s way up for the challenge and has really interesting ideas already. I think he’s perfect, perfect casting.

Sneak Peek at Robert Pattinson in The Making of Tenet

imgbox

I09 exclusively shared a sneak peek into The Secrets of Tenet: Inside Christopher Nolan’s Quantum Cold War book by James Mottram. The book is out on the same day as the film (31 July 2020) and offers “insights into all aspects of Tenets creation including an “in-depth commentary from Christopher Nolan himself and a range of other key collaborators.” Insight Editions have provided us with the press material which you can click on below (UHQ).

The first spread is the start of chapter two and talks a bit about casting non-traditional leads, which, we now know, ended up being John David Washington and Robert Pattinson.

Spread two is from about 70 pages past that and has storyboards, and the on-set photos, of some kind of action scene that involves a fire truck and two other massive vehicles. Spread three has some text explaining that a scene where Washington and Pattinson’s characters jump out of a building was shot practically, with the actual actors. They were on safety rigs and only did part of it but, still, it’s them.

Robert Pattinson Talks about first meeting with Christopher Nolan

image host

Rob spoke to EW about his first meeting with Christopher Nolan – hmmm wonder what chocolates they were. From EW:

“I was in London at the beginning of last year and had kind of absolutely nothing going,” Pattinson told EW in the course of an interview for this month’s Tenet cover story. “So, I was panicking about that when out of nowhere there was a call to say, ‘Do you want to come back to LA?’ [I] went to meet him, and we kind of talked for three hours, and I have no idea what I’m meeting for, what the subject is. I was actually going back through his filmography to kind of try and predict what sort of genre he would go into next. And then, after hours of talking, he finally kind said in the last two minutes, ‘So, I’ve been writing this thing and would you like to come back and read it?'”

Even so, Pattinson was concerned that he might have messed up his chances of working with Nolan, having committed what he feared was a chocolate-based faux pas.

“There was this pack of chocolates on the table,” the actor said. “I had a massive blood sugar drop by the end of this conversation. I thought I was going to pass out because we’d been talking so much. I was trying to concentrate so much. Finally, I asked for one of the chocolates and he immediately ended the meeting. I was like, oh my god, I f—ed it up.”

Christopher Nolan then had this to say when talking about Rob’s character “Neil” in Tenet:

Rob plays a character called Neil in the film — or we think may be called Neil,” said Nolan. “You never really quite know what’s going on with these identities. But he’s the very definition of a fantastic supporting character. He’s a very important character to this film, but he’s very much in support of John David’s character.”
