Robert Pattinson nominated for Best Actor in The Lighthouse by Detroit ilm Critics Society

image host

The Detroit Film Society has nominated Rob for Best Actor in The Lighthouse. It’s definitely a stacked competition – I’ve seen all the films bar The Lighthouse and Uncut Gems and it’s definitely going to be a close one between Joaquin Phoenix and Adam Driver. Contrary to public opinion I thought The Irishman was good but Joe Pesci stole the movie for me.

In other news, The Lighthouse has also been nominated for Best Screenplay and Will Dafoe for Best Supporting Actor. I am scratching my head as to why Robert Eggers seems to be overlooked for best director. I guess he may be the Di Caprio of Directors?

The winners will be announced 9 December 2019. This is the second time Rob’s been nominated by DFCS. He was also nominated for Good Time

Robert Pattinson will Compete for Lead Actor

imgbox

Rob finally receiving the recognition that he deserves, although I don’t need him to win an Oscar to know how great he is. I am excited for him when you consider who he may be up against – Joaquin Phoenix , Adam Driver, Christian Bale …. You go Rob! From Variety:

Robert Pattinson will compete in the lead actor category for “The Lighthouse,” Variety has learned exclusively. A24 will submit Pattinson in the lead actor category, with co-star Willem Dafoe in the supporting actor field.

While the film is very much a two-hander, Pattinson has more screen time and his character serves as the audience’s point of view. Though he has never been nominated for an Oscar, Pattinson has more than proven his chops since breaking through in the “Twilight” films, working with such directors as David Cronenberg, the Safdie brothers and Christopher Nolan. His choices and performances have drawn recognition, particularly for his turn in 2017’s “Good Time.” In his review for “The Lighthouse,” Variety’s Owen Gleiberman called one scene “the most ferocious acting of Pattinson’s career.”
