According to Films News The Batman won’t start filming until April 2025, which makes sense as I don’t believe the script has been finished yet.

The Batman 2 is still happening with Rob, but we will have to wait until 2 October 2026 to appreciate it. According to several websites, including Screen Rant:

DC Studios has delayed the release of The Batman – Part II, and this change means that the DC Universe will be following the same release pattern for two years in a row. Matt Reeves’ The Batman released in March 2022 to huge success, introducing Robert Pattinson as a new version of the Caped Crusader, who had been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years before facing Paul Dano’s serial killer, the Riddler. The Batman was intended to start a new Batman-focused shared universe comprised of DC Elseworlds projects, taking place outside the continuity of the rebooted DC Universe.

While several spinoffs are in development, including TV shows focused on Colin Farrell’s Penguin, Arkham Asylum, Gotham City Police Department and other members of Batman’s DC Comics rogues gallery, a direct sequel was also announced at CinemaCon in 2022. Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II will mark the return of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, and other The Batman cast members have also signed on to reprise their roles. Despite originally being expected to release in October 2025, The Batman – Part II has been delayed by a year, and is now set to release on October 2, 2026.

According to Cinema Solace below, The Batman 2 starts filming in November 2023. Currently on IMDbPro it is still showing as “script” as at 7 February 2023.

Ok am feeling much better since Matt Reeves used his “3” bat signals

Colllider also stated:

With the success of The Batman last year, many fans have wondered how this change in leadership would affect director Matt Reeves‘ planned trilogy. Gunn confirmed that, while they are planning to move ahead with their own Batman in the DCU, it will not change any of the plans that Reeves has for his films, and they will move forward in tandem with the other projects.

Weintraub was the one to voice the question to Gunn, asking if the plan for The Batman trilogy was still moving ahead, to which Gunn replied, “Yes, it is. Matt is working on [The Batman — Part II], which he thinks of as a Batman Crime Saga, which also includes [The Penguin] series, and it is its own thing. He’s hard at work on that. He came in and pitched us some amazing, really cool stuff the other day. So our plan is for that to continue.” Safran continued by voicing his support for the project and the team’s commitment to the films coming from Reeves. “The Batman is not a stepchild. It’s all under DC, we are fully invested in the success of The Batman, just like we are everything else.”

The pair also said that The Batman — Part II could be in prep sometime in 2023.

I’m still not sure about what to think on waking up to news about The Batman 2 – in one respect I’m excited to know that the movie will be released on 3 October 2025, but am I reading too much into there possibly not being a third film with Rob? According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled 10 new projects for DC and of course confirmed news about The Batman 2:

A new Batman movie without Robert Pattinson (but featuring Bruce Wayne’s murderous son).

The Batman sequel: Pattinson will continue to portray the Dark Knight in at least one more crime saga movie directed by Matt Reeves. That movie, the executives revealed, will be released Oct. 3, 2025, and is being titled The Batman Part II.

“2025 is going to be a very big year for DC,” crowed Safran. “Superman and Batman within the same year.”

Though Gunn and Safran are working in one DC Universe, some stories will stand apart. Reeves’ Batman movies and Todd Phillips’ sequel to Joker will fall under a banner titled DC Elseworlds, which will, just as in the comics, fall outside the larger continuity of the DCU.

“The bar is going to be very high for projects to be outside the DCU, the Elseworlds projects,” explained Safran. “But every now and then there will be something that lives up to that.”

Hear what James Gunn has to say at the beginning of this clip about the The Batman films being considered DC Elsewhere:

24 August 2022

Deadline broke the news today that Matt Reeves has signed a first look deal with Warner Bros and further confirmation that he’s in the process of writing the sequel (which we knew but lots of people have been nervous considering what’s been happening with Warner Bros of late. This should allay their fear”:

Warner Bros is going all in on The Batman director Matt Reeves and his 6th & Idaho production company. He has become the first filmmaker given an overall first look film deal since Warner Bros Pictures Group Co-Chairs/CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav to steer the film division. In addition, Reeves has re-upped with the Warner Bros. Television Group and Chairman Channing Dungey, where he is also working on The Batman spinoff series The Penguin with Colin Farrell.

Reeves and 6th & Idaho had a first look film deal at Netflix. Reeves is spending so much time on film and TV projects relating to The Batman franchise that it made perfect sense for him to call Warner Bros home with the multi-year first look. …

Under the terms of the film deal, Warner Bros. Pictures Group’s production divisions – Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, Warner Animation Group and DC-based Films – will have first-look rights to Reeves’ work as a writer, director and/or producer. Reeves is currently back at work on the sequel, co-writing with Mattson Tomlin the second installment of a DC resuscitation that drew strong reviews and a global gross north of $770 million. Robert Pattinson is back for the sequel as the title character. Looking forward to these two doing another photoshoot. Not that we doubted it, considering how successful The Batman has been, but thankfully Warner Bros confirmed at CinemaCon today that The Batman 2 has been greenlit with Rob returning for the role. From Deadline:

No surprise here: The Batman 2 is happening with Matt Reeves returning as director and Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Boss Toby Emmerich announced today during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.

The news comes at a time when the movie has clocked more than $760M around the globe and a viewership of 4.1M households on HBO Max in its first week. That topped the viewership of such Warner Bros day-and-date movies last year as Suicide Squad, Dune, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Matrix Resurrections. The Batman is Warners’ first theatrical-window release since Christopher Nolan’s Tenet in August 2020, after the studio adopted a pandemic theatrical day-and-date strategy its 2021 slate including December 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984.

Reeves took the stage briefly and said to the room of exhibitors: “Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”

It didn’t take long for IMDbPro to update
