If anyone subscribes to Le Monde and would like to share with us what this article “The 400 hits of French Cinema in the United States” mentions about Rob, it would be much appreciated. In the meantime, this is what was said on their Instagram acccount

“Jacques Audiard, Mia Hansen-Løve, Leos Carax, Céline Sciamma, Claire Denis … French auteur cinema may represent barely more than 1% of market share in the United States, it makes the eyes of moviegoers shine. Americans among critics and campus alike. Well represented at festivals, films also arouse the admiration of actors and filmmakers across the Atlantic, inspired by the New Wave and its heirs. Some are even ready to divide their salary by four to work with the French: Kristen Stewart with Olivier Assayas, Robert Pattinson with Claire Denis, Joaquin Phoenix with Jacques Audiard… Timothée Chalamet, he recently made it known that he would like to tour with François Ozon.”

Thanks Aline for letting us know about this.

I’d love to read this article in English if Aline (or someone else) is happy to translate. My high school/uni French is probably too rusty to attempt it myself.

This collaboration between French cinema and Hollywood is a good thing. I like how the women in French cinema, Deneuve, Huppert, Binoche to name a few all look their age and look great and are given lead parts, even the 80+ year olds leads in Haneke’s Amour. Have you all seen the cast of Friends for their recent reunion show, I only saw the promos? OMG, so much botox and the works on their faces that it looks ugly.

I too only watched promos – I just can’t stand looking at the plastic faces of those people and then be told how great they’ve aged. Your point about French cinema and lead parts is spot on
