Remember Me Makes Clint from Moviehole’s Top Ten Films of 2010

I still remember Clint from Moviehole’s initial review of Remember Me which we posted back on 28 Feb, and so I’m not surprised the film made it to his Top Ten Films of 2010, what I am surprised at is – why isn’t it on everyone’s list?

    Tyler

    “10. Remember Me

I remember getting an Atari for my 10th birthday. That was a big surprise. When I caught the top of those tiny ted joysticks atop of their black spongy controls, I knew my entry into double figure land was going to be one to remember. Wanna know what a bigger surprise was? ”Remember Me”! This truly out Gorfed Gorf and Swallowed Pac Man hole in terms of pleasant surprises – I kid you not. Say what you will about his sparkling work in those vampire pics, Robert Pattinson delivers one of the richest and most weighty performances of any actor this year with his uneasy son and lover at the center of director Allen Coulter’s love letter to 9/11 (yes, there is such a thing). Catch it on DVD – you’ll find it, unjustly, at the ‘bottom’ of the new releases shelf.”

Thanks to our elite affie Spunk Ransom for the tip about the above article and whilst I was at Moviehole I noticed this other article that Clint posted a few days ago – 10 Great Films You Missed in 2010.  Clint isn’t lying – he really was suprrised by Rob’s performance:

    “10. Remember Me

I know, I know, ‘but it’s got that guy with more gunk in his hair than Liz Hurley does in her nether regions’ but c’mon! many-a-good-actor have started out in the cinematic mailroom and graduated to an awe-impressive high-rise suite – just look at Robin ‘Mork’ Williams, Josh ‘Goonies’ Brolin, Tom ‘Bosom Buddies’ Hanks or Stephen ‘Evil Ed’ Geoffries! (Ok, bad example) – ain’t Robert Pattinson innocent until the gavel slams down!? This film, a heartrending relationship drama (it’s both about the rapport between a young couple and also one between a young man and his estranged father) that played to the tick of a 9/11 countdown, proved there’s much more to “Twilight” vamp Robert Pattinson than blank stares, sparkles and tree hopping. Quite simply, Pattinson was an eye-opener in this film. Skeptics need see it.”

Yes skeptics – open your eyes and look at the performance – you can no longer hide behind your ignorance.

I think Clint has a slight man crush on Rob – understandable really.  Thanks Clint for looking past Edward.  If you want to see what the other films on Clint’s lists are, then you know the drill.

WFE on Scriptshadows Top 10 Scripts of the Year

When Carson Reeves does a review, I usually listen.  Carson wasn’t wrong when stating that The Social Network was one of the best scripts and now Water For Elephants is listed  as No. 2 on his Top 10 Scripts of the Year (I say “his” but I have to say I’m not 100% of Carson’s gender).  I love that he says: “The biggest surprises for me were scripts like Water For Elephants, Untitled Chef Project, and Drive, all of which I was reluctant to pick up because the subject matter didn’t interest me. Yet once I opened them, the characters drew me in like a champagne sunset on a 70 degree July night.”  Yeah I’ve never heard him say that about a Twilight script … oops I said that out loud right.

    rob-on-set-21

    “2) WATER FOR ELEPHANTS
    Genre: Period Drama/Love Story
Premise: (from IMDB) A veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet.
You know, this is one of those scripts that shouldn’t have roped me in the way it did. It’s basically a love story. But the great thing about Elephants is that it’s a love story wrapped in a loony dangerous unpredictable package – the Bizarro World version of Titanic. Not to mention it has the best villain I’ve read all year hands down (can’t wait to see what Waltz does with it). You’re not going to read anything like this again for a long time.”

If you want to check out the other scripts on the list, click on hyperlink above.  And if you, like me, love great cinema, then I recommend you read The Black List which Carson posts every year – it’s a list of the best unproduced screenplays, and I told Vertigo and Michelle the other day that I’m silently praying that Rob was at Dreamworks discussing “Welcome to the People” a few months back.  I know it’s just speculation on my part, but I think it’s perfect for him.  Rob will you just give us our Christmas present already and tell us what you have lined up post BD!

Late Night Post: Oscars 2009 … Up Close

Ooh how else to celebrate the fact that I got my laptop back than Rob … up close at the Oscars.  Academy if you are smart you will have Rob at the ceremony this year although in February he’s back on BD set *insertsadface*.  I cannot wait for that saga to be over.

Film.com Talk About Water For Elephants, The Movie

    jacobj9

I love it when the promos start for Rob’s films – even if it is early days.  I know that the release date apparently keeps changing for the US, but until we see it on the Fox site and the premiere has been confirmed, I’m not going to post it.  However, what I will post is Christine Champ from Film.com article:

“Can Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon help Robert Pattinson transcend Twilight?

Fangs or suspenders … which shows off Robert Pattinson’s sexy side more?

That’s the question pre- and post-tween Twi-hards still swooning over Rpattz’s Edward Cullen may be pondering when they glimpse set snapshots from his upcoming Great Depression-era epic Water for Elephants. Those who appreciate Pattinson for his more serious, less supernatural roles in Remember Me and Little Ashesare probably asking themselves the same question.

Whether or not you respect Pattinson’s cinema presence doesn’t really matter, though; there are plenty more reasons to get butterflies in your belly in anticipation of the April 2011 adaptation of Water for Elephants. Based on Sara Gruen’s best-selling historical novel, it’s a tale imbued with the sort of enchanted nostalgia that makes one feel like they’ve stepped inside a faded, sepia-tinged photograph or yellowed newspaper clipping scene and traveled back in time to tiptoe through the lives of the strangers in the pictures. Or as if they’ve perhaps snuck into the memories of a 93-year-old former circus veterinarian — like the hero of Gruen’s book, Jacob Jankowski.

Jacob narrates the beginning of his memoir from a nursing home as he surveys the installment of a traveling circus from his bedroom window. It stirs up memories of his youth as a 23-year-old carrying water for elephants and otherwise caring for a menagerie of circus animals during the 1930s. If that’s not enough of a plot to entice you into Jankowski’s circus, add to it the love triangle he forms with his married amour, the dazzling equestrian star Marlena (Reese Witherspoon), and her charismatic but brutal husband August (Christoph Waltz replacing Sean Penn). (Rumor has it, in the movie August may end up being an amalgam of two of the novel’s characters: August and tyrant circus owner Uncle Al).   Pile onto that paralyzed drunk pal Camel, who hides out in Jacob’s train car; his ally Walter the dwarf; Rosie the marvelous and mistreated elephant; and the scandalous Coochie Girls. Set it all in the hard-knocks landscape of the Great Depression and you have the makings of a spectacularly thrilling, poignant, and romantic adventure. And not airbrushed rom-com romance, but rather love with gritty, witty, engrossing, true-to-life twists and turns that resonate like they’ve been lifted from the pages of your intrepid grandpa’s diary.

Need more reason to add Water for Elephants to your spring movie schedule? Two words: Christoph Waltz. When the talent behind the nutty Oscar-winning Nazi from Inglourious Basterds slips on the shoes of a schizophrenic ringmaster, odds are good he’ll give a show-stopping performance — the kind that could earn him Academy Award number two. It will also be interesting to see if Pattinson holds his own with Witherspoon and if the two can make sparks fly. Water for Elephants is directed by I Am Legend’s Francis Lawrence with P.S. I Love You screenwriter Richard Lagravenese penning the adapted script. So far, Water for Elephants seems like a cinema circus worth buying a ticket to see.“

Christine as much as Rob is surrounded by stellar co-stars, it’s Rob’s talent and not his sexiness that will ensure his star rises – the sexiness is just a bonus for those of us that thankfully don’t fall into the category of pre & post tween Twihards.

Thanks to our gorgeous friend Suze from PattinsonStateofMind for the tip.

WFE Mentioned by Richard Wilkins on Today Show 22 December 2010

Thanks to Cindy who emailed us about this yesterday after she had watched Rob on Today Show.  It’s just Richard giving Rob a great plug – because we know Dickie loves him.  And I know he says that the movie is out in June, but as I said to Cindy – Fox have pretty much told us up until last week that no official date has been set and that our contact is on leave until early January.  Once we have official word we will let you know – so please don’t bombard them.  To watch vid, click on  pic – go to Entertainment tab furthest right and scroll down until you find  22 December 2010 (click on Entertainment link, it’s the first choice under the date – Dickie starts talking Rob at about 0.51).  Sorry about the hassle – but the site is not being user friendly.

My Heart is like an Open Highway

Well it’s true since I had to hold back on posting certain beauties during Sunday’s pic challenge.  Ok and I can’t stop singing that song since Saturday either, sue me.

In feeling they deserve to be shared,  here are a few Rob’s that only due to the toss of a 20 cent coin (not physically ok),  didn’t make it into the ring.  Ding ding ding!

Film.com’s Laremy Legel: “Remember Me – Massively Underrated”

    rob-as-tyler

Laremy Legel of Film.com you are a very wise man:

“Massively Underrated: Youth in Revolt / Remember Me
Youth in Revolt was an innovative comedy, but it was released during a time period where people skip the theatrical experience. And if Remember Me had featured Ryan Gosling instead of Robert Pattinson it would have been correctly hailed as great. But people got far too caught up in the ending and Pattinson’s celebrity to catch that he was really freaking good in this movie. Definitely worth a watch if you you’re a fan of relationship dramas.” (My emphasis)

Why yes Laremy, yes he was.    If you want to see which film’s Laremy put in this top 10, then click on the link.  Remember Me didn’t make the cut, but hey – his comments above more than make up for that.  Thanks to RPLife for the tip.
