Robert Pattinson talks wearing shorts in London during winter to be confused as an Aussie
Â
The South China Morning Post | Associated Press spoke with Robert and the Safdie Bros during New York promo for Good Time. Â Here’s an extract in relation to Robert. I love his comment about what to wear in London as a disguise – funny (and oh so true):
Robert Pattinson learned that the hard way when he bleached his famously coiffed mop to play the amoral Connie Nikas, a greasy New York thug who haphazardly robs a bank and tries to spring his brother out of prison in Good Time.
“It was pretty gross. I thought I was going to look a lot trendier than I did,†Pattinson laments. After months of alternating between a dyed black perm and a hydrogen peroxide-lightened hairdo, he says “your hair is no longer hair. It’s just strands of chemicals.â€
…
“I don’t ever watch a movie and think, ‘Oh, I can really sympathise with that guy.’ I don’t give a f***,†Pattinson laughs. “If someone’s not interesting, I just don’t care.â€
The Second Coming of Robert Pattinson GQ September 2017
Â
I guess Pattinsonaissance was already taken. Â Here’s the full GQ article and pictures. Â Like I said – not my favourite interview from this promo tour, but the photos redeem it.
Justin Chang finally admits “Even critics who have been slow to appreciate [Pattinson’s] talent (guilty as charged) would likely approve of his taste”
Justin Chang who finally sees what we’ve been seeing for years chatted with Robert about his love of film and director choices. Robert also mentions that he’s about to start filming High Life “on Sunday”. From the LA Times:
“There was never a cellphone picture, nothing, which is incredibly satisfying and relieving”
Â
This is a great interview by The Knockturnal, here are the extracts about Robert, but click on the link to read all the interviews. Â Robert’s first response about there not being any cellphone pictures ….
Robert Pattinson
While working on this film, at what point did you look in the mirror and go, “Oh my god, I don’t recognize myself anymore?â€
Not really. I always recognize myself, but I was really surprised by the end when we just got through the entire movie and there had never been anything, there was never a cellphone picture, nothing, which is incredibly satisfying and relieving.
How do you feel about the Oscar buzz?
I don’t think about that all. It sounds terrible considering I’m doing press now, but I was done with my desires at Cannes. This is all just gravy.
Can you speak about collaborating with the Safdie Brothers and what you admire about them?
Their discipline and the level of energy they bring to jobs.
“I’m trying to make something every time that feels new and surprises people”
Â
This is a fabulous interview by Jason Guerrasio from Business Insider. Â Robert mentions Damsel, quashes new Twilight and talks about wanting to play Connie again … Good Time II – I’m in! (although that’s wishful thinking on my part).
Jason Guerrasio: You’ve said in interviews that it’s seeing a picture of the Safdie’s last movie, “Heaven Knows What,†that sparked the interested to work with them. What were you searching for creatively back at that time?
Robert Pattinson: That. I mean, I don’t do anything else. I literally f—ing look at film websites all day long. [Laughs]
Guerrasio: Wow.Â
Pattinson: Also book review websites, anything where there could be something. I guess I’m trying to figure out what could potentially be a zeitgeist-type thing. Something that will connect. And it’s very, very difficult to find anything that’s in the zeitgeist.
Guerrasio: So your process in choosing roles is different from the traditional method in Hollywood of an agent sending you material. You’re searching for the material.
Pattinson: I think it’s so much more than the script. I did a movie after “Good Time†[titled “Damsel“] which was from a script and it’s funny. But originally I read it and I didn’t get it. And then I saw this movie, “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter,†which the directors, the Zellner brothers, had done previously, and I called my agent and said, “Who are these guys?†And he was like, “You just got offered their movie and you said ‘no,’†and I was like, “Oh, s—! Wait!†[Laughs] I think you just need so many elements. And I’m just one of those people who thinks if you’ve made something good once, even if it was a long time ago, I think —
