Roderick Hill has been added to the cast list on IMDbPro as “Older American Gentleman”, so slowly but surely we are getting glimpses of other characters in The Childhood of a Leader.   Anyone following Mona Fastvold’s instagram will glean that they are no doubt in post production in Paris.  And in an article from October 2014, Helen Danielsson (producer) did say:

“Her new assignment Childhood of a leader is more like a European independent film – a psychological thriller and a depiction of how fascism grew strong after the Versailles Treaty at the end of the 1st World War II, according to Helena Danielsson.

We expect the first launch it during the festival in Venice and then in Toronto, she says.” [My emphasis]

So Rob may not be attending Cannes, as far as we know, but some of his films are being marketed there this year.  As I mentioned the other day, The Childhood of a Leader has “Promo Screening Pending” as it’s Cannes status on Cinando.  What this means is that they are proposing to screen a promotional reel (not entire film obviously) to buyers at the market.  I’m guessing since it still says “pending” they are working hard to finish whatever it is they want to show.  I’ll keep you posted if and when it changes.  Nothing is listed under the “Markets” tab of Protagonist yet, although they have a Cannes office listed on their Cinando page

Update:  23/04/2015

Remember I said above that Protagonist still didn’t have anything listed under “Markets” tab for Cannes.  Well that’s changed now.  I hope we get news of distributors signing up.  Look at that “Protagonist Promo Reel – Exclusive Footage”.

We don’t currently have any release dates, but I’ll keep you up to date with which countries have distributors thanks to IMDbPro unless otherwise stated.  Of course, once release dates start coming through I will obviously update this post.  I’ll also post a link to this information on our “The Childhood of a Leader” page under our “Films” tab if you want to bookmark.

Liam Cunningham (who my fingers automatically call Gallagher *facepalms*) was promoting Game of Thrones on The Late Late Show in Ireland and was asked by host, Ryan Tubridy, about The Childhood of a Leader and working with Robert Pattinson.  He has some wonderful things to say about Rob, like everyone that works with him does.  I also like that he mentions that “the film may not be for everyone it’s very much an arthouse film”.  Bring it on Brady – bring it on.

Thanks to Kate at ROBsessed for taping and for this scan of an extract about Rob from Liam’s interview with The Irish Independent (note: the full article not yet available online, will let you know when it appears)

Me thinks Liam has a bit of a mancrush.

Berlinale Life Premiere

Update: New interviews will be added to end of posts

So with the article I posted on the weekend that had Brady Corbet telling us that Rob’s not playing Hitler nor Mussolini, we (meaning more so myself and Carmel) started having a discussion about who the character might be seeing as Brady doesn’t want to give away who it is.  We know that Brady and Mona wrote the story themselves and although some have suggested that it’s based on Jean-Paul Sartre’s “The Childhood of A Leader”, if you read the story Lucien’s parents are not American diplomats.  Perhaps the short story influenced them to write their screenplay *shrugs*.  The short summary on IMDbPro says “A look at the childhood life of a post-World War I leader.”  Carmel and I have been going backwards and forward about who it might be.  Is it someone that we all know or is it based on true events with a fictitious character.  I love that Brady has us thinking already before they start filming.  That’s what a good film does way before and way after you’ve watched it.  So here’s what snippets we have so far from Brady:

Protagonist Pictures:

“This chilling fable about the rise of fascism in the 20th Century tells the story of a young American boy living in France in 1918 whose father is working for the US government on the creation of the Treaty of Versailles. What he witnesses helps to mould his beliefs – and we witness the birth of a terrifying ego.

Loosely inspired by the early childhood experiences of many of the great dictators of the 20th Century and infused with the same sense of dread as The Others and The Omen, The Childhood of a Leader is an ominous portrait of emerging evil.

So whilst I was out The Childhood of a Leader’s IMDbPro page updated to “post production” because at 10.00 am this morning it still said “filming”.  Nice little tie in with the cast and crew photo that we posted here earlier.
