The trailer is here and we get another look at Scytale. Plus we also have a talk with some of the cast including Rob prior to the preview release of the teaser trailer:

Rob talking Scytale via Deadline:

“Pattinson’s new ‘Dune: Part Three’ character Scytale is “an unusual character in the book and when you can’t really tell who side he’s on, that’s what makes it quite interesting,” he said. “I wouldn’t say he was a kind of conventional bad guy as such. I don’t think he is. He might even be a good guy. Who knows? I will also find out when I see the movie. It’s an extremely fun character to play and the look for it is quite Incredible. Extraordinary”

Full Q&A thanks to Brandon Davis:

And here are a few photos taken from the Q&A yesterday with the media for the teaser trailer preview:

And what do we know about Scytale. Games Radar explains the character:

“First and foremost, Scytale is what’s known as a ‘Face Dancer,’ essentially a shapeshifter capable of taking on different forms and identities. Face Dancers are creations of the Bene Tleilax, a secretive religious cult based around genetic manipulation in pursuit of conquest, with the shapeshifters being one of their engineered lifeforms.

First appearing in Dune: Messiah, the second book in the series, Scytale himself gets involved with Paul Atreides as part of yet another conspiracy against the Muad’Dib and his revolution against the Padishah Emperor, this time in the form of sending a ghola – a physical clone of a dead person with none of their memories – of Paul’s fallen ally Duncan Idaho to his side.

As it turns out, it’s all part of a plan to find a method of restoring the memories and personality of the ghola in order to make the Bene Tleilax effectively immortal by constantly passing their minds down into newly reborn clone bodies.

The experiment does indeed result in a successful restoration of Duncan Idaho’s ghola, which in turns leads to a confrontation between Scytale and Paul Atreides in which Paul winds up the victor. There’s a lot more to their conflict, but digging too much deeper would require some very significant spoilers that will likely play directly into the film.”

Get ready to hopefully have a glimpse of Rob as Scytale in Dune 3. It’s rumoured that the first trailer for the film will be released this week.

1 January 2026

If the photos below weren’t confirmation enough, Rob confirmed back in November whilst doing promo for Die My Love that he is in fact in Dune 3. Rob told Anne Thompson of Indiewire the following:

“When I was doing “Dune” it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything. And it was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating, I did not have a single functioning brain cell. And I was just listening to Denis [Villeneuve]: ‘Whatever you want!'”

Did you also shoot a villain role in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three?” (due December 18, 2026), as well as A24’a relationship thriller “The Drama” co-starring Zendaya as your fiancéedue April 3?

Robert Pattinson: Yes.”

Looking forward to seeing anything from this role.

Well I guess this is the confirmation we need – Rob in Budapest filming Dune 3.

Back on 9 April 2025 we posted about the rumour that Rob was being eyed for Dune 3. No confirmation has come to light, however, according to Index (Hungary), Rob has arrived in Budapest:

It can now be definitively stated that Hungary has been flooded with world stars, as Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and most recently, after the duo of Jason Momoa and Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy also arrived in Budapest. The Last Night in Soho actress appeared at the capital’s Déryné bistro alongside Zendaya – the actors are currently filming Denis Villeneuve’s third Dune film in our country.

This would be epic if it comes true. According to Deadline:

This would reunite Rob with previous costars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, but I’m excited by the prospects of a collaboration with Florence Pugh.

Please be come to fruition.

UPDATED: According to THR:

Robert Pattinson may give Timothée Chalamet a hard time in Legendary’s upcoming Dune: Messiah. Sources say the actor has been circling the role of the chief villain in the film, one that is possibly Scytale from Frank Herbert’s books.

No offer has been made to Pattinson, whose call sheet includes starring in The Batman sequel for Matt Reeves, and appearing in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

IMDbPro have also added to Rob’s page as “rumoured” which is mighty quick for IMDbPro standards.

Collider is also noting:

“Dune: Messiah is expected to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026. It’s important to point out that the date hasn’t been officially assigned to another Dune movie, but it has been stated that this is the spot on the calendar Warner Bros. and Legendary have claimed for the next film by Denis Villeneuve. Considering how Dune: Messiah is expected to go into principal photography during this summer, it might be a matter of time before Warner Bros. confirms that next year will mark the return of Paul Atreides to cinemas.”

And Richard Yeh remembered that Rob wanted to be in a Dune film – guessing only way this may not happen is scheduling conflicts. Rob make this happen please.
