Do you guys have an idea or opinion for why Rob’s movie The Lighthouse was not picked for main screening at Cannes? It had all the characteristics of a Cannes main entry. I don’t know if the ones with the red carpet are the ones appearing only in competition. I think it was shown as director’s cut or something.

It’s more than likely that the film wasn’t ready for submission and missed the cut-off for the competition. Director’s Fortnight usually has a later cut-off. It’s also possible that certain directors can submit post cut-off but maybe Eggers preferred to showcase it without the pressures of competing for the Palme d’Or.

Taxi Driver was on one of the channels on TV couple of nights ago. De Niro was so good looking then. Reminded me of Rob. And also I was thinking in Rob’s version, De Niro would have died because that would have been the logical and realistic ending. Instead they revived him to become a hero, the guy who had mental issues for most of the movie becomes this happy hero. No,no!

Remember when they compared the photo of Rob in Cosmopolis to De Niro in Taxi Driver. It’s somewhere on the site or at least saved on one of my external hard drives. I am a huge De Niro fan and yes he was so good looking. I obviously have a thing for Roberts! I’m still gutted that Idol’s Eye fell over – was a dream to see the two Robert’s in a film together. At least we saw them during Actor’s Roundtable.

Yes, I vaguely remember Rob being compared to young De Niro not specifically to Taxi Driver. In Godfather II too, you see the same handsome De Niro.
Maria, BTW, my husband said I should get a certificate or something from you when I finished looking at all pages of this blog. LOL. Well, I am certainly happy that I could say a thing or two here about some of the movies we share the same taste for. Rob’s sensibilities align more with French Cinema than Hollywood. They are masters at seamlessly weaving different emotions into one nice bundle. Too bad he is stuck with stupid Hollywood.
