Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves sneak peek at The Batman

So we no longer have to wait to see Rob’s take on The Batman/Bruce Wayne. It gives me chills – the whole teaser and Rob’s Batman voice – far exceeded my expectations. Here is Matt’s vimeo as well as Rob’s intro – WB know him well – Rob wasn’t allowed to say anything

The Batman – DC FanDome Teaser from Matt Reeves on Vimeo.

Here’s some paraphrased comments from Matt Reeves during the DCFandome:

The Bat suit is practical – idea is Bruce made himself and so Rob had input into the suit so that he could move and fight in it. Rob had input into the Bat suit because he has to make sure he can move and fight in it. Matt also confirms that Rob’s Batman is Year Two – so he goes out looking for fights etc and rips have to remain in the bat suit etc.

Rob spoke to Christian Bale and Bale told Rob to make sure when you are wearing the suit you are able to “relieve yourself”!

On why he chose Rob for the role

Matt Reeves says Rob is an incredible actor the work Rob has done in last 6 years. A friend of his worked on The Lost City of Z and when Matt says he saw Rob with the beard he had to ask – who is that. Rob has so much charimsa. He is like a chameleon and is such a gifted actor in a really incredible way and is a tremendous passionate fan of Batman. It was incredible to connect with him and share excitement for the character. He has the soul of someone who can play a Batman that we haven’t seen before.

On why he is making another Batman film

The thing I related to in the Batman story is that he isn’t a superhero in the traditional sense. If he has a superpower, it’s the ability to endure. He’s a very alive character, and to tell a version of Batman that wasn’t about how he became Batman, but the early days of being Batman and to see it in new ways, that was a way to do something that hasn’t been done. He then compared it to 70s films Taxi Driver, Chinatown and The French Connection.

Matt says there are so many iterations of Batman and this is why it’s exciting to be in this comic fandom because he thinks what can we do to put our spin on this to find a new way of looking at the character that they love.

Never thought I’d have so much fun at a DC Fan event! That teaser video was sublime. And listening to Matt Reeves speak so fondly about Rob made my day. Not that I expected anything less. Everyone who works with him is in agreement. Seems he’s more than proven himself to those that matter (to him).
