Status Update of Rob’s Projects on IMDbPro

I know there are some of you concerned about movement of some of Rob’s movies on IMDb.  While we wait for The Rover teaser to come to light, I thought I’d post an update of Rob’s Projects in Development currently in IMDbPro.

Hold On To Me goes from “pre-production” on 14 October 2013 to “optioned” on 9 January 2014.  “Optioned”, correct me if I’m wrong, means that there is a contract between a producer/writer and/or a studio.  So maybe they are just trying to line up all their ducks – Rob is pretty busy this year.  I really want to see leather clad, motorcycle riding Jimmy.  Call me selfish.  James Marsh and Brad Inglesby are still attached, as are the production companies, Rob and Carey Mulligan  and a release date of 2015.  Time will tell though.

Mission:Blacklist.  This went from “pre-production” on 11 July 2013 when Jasper Ganslandt signed on to direct to “Development Unknown” on 14 January 2013.  We posted here that the movie was due to start production between April – June 2014 and Embankment haven’t altered this information on their website at this stage either.  Will keep an eye out though.  Rob’s still the only actor attached to the film, but it might just be that they are lining up everything to start once he’s finished filming his other movies.  I don’t see a rush for this film, it’s not like Rob’s going to be too old to play this role like he was for Phineas in Unbound Captives which is still sitting “in development” but no longer has anyone attached other than Hugh (rumoured).

Hate Mail is still a rumour and sitting on script since 10 September 2013.  Rob and Scarlet in a film.   Hmmmm.  This film was optioned in September 2011.  Waits impatiently on any news for this.

Life.  Well no surprises here.  We know this is the next movie Rob’s going to film and that it will begin on 18 February 2014 in Toronto – posted here Cannot wait to see Rob as Dennis Stock.  Not sure why they don’t list his character name on Pro.

The Childhood of A Leader.  We posted Brady Corbet talking about this movie at Sundance here and he did mention that they would be filming this in France.  It has been in pre-production since 20 December 2013 and was “announced” on 10 January 2014.   Prod Weekly posted that it was to commence May 2014.  I say bring it.

The Lost City of Z. Benedict Cumberbatch has given a few interviews where he’s talking about preparing for his next role in this film.  He’s currently filming “voice” for 2 projects at the moment.  It’s been in pre-production since September 2014.   Prod Week states summer 2014 here.

Just to maybe shed some light on Mission:Blacklist.  Lost City was originally optioned in 2008 and the script sold at Cannes at 2010.  Brad Pitt was initially involved.  It became “development unknown” on 21 December 2010 when Brad Pitt was no longer attached.  It’s rumoured that he’s one of the producers.  It then sat in “development unknown” on 11 January 2012, 10 January 2013 and 27 July 2013.  Now I’m not saying that Rob’s pulling out of Mission:Blacklist, I’m just showing that sometimes a film can sit there for a few years before it gets made for a myriad of reasons – financing, schedule conflicts etc.  Time will tell if M:B falls off our radar, but you have to remember that Eric Maddox hand picked Rob and maybe they are happy to just wait until as I said “lining up everything to start”.  I imagine filming locations for this film are going to be difficult.

Will keep you posted with more info when it comes to light.  Meanwhile, I’ll just stare at “filming” next to Queen of the Desert, because remember how many of you nervous nellies out there thought Rob was no longer attached to the film.  Faith people – faith.

And Rob – any time you might want to tell us about some new projects – we’re ready.

Bwah @Sue there were loads of people who were nervous about Rob not being involved in QoTD 🙂 I’ve been in training whilst on holidays – I saw 6 films in about 10 days so my body is ready!

@Maria – I am very grateful to you for all the leg work and deciphering of this crazy industry for us.
No matter how it all plays out, that is a very impressive dance card Rob has there.

LOL, @Carmel! ‘Dance card’ – funny I thought the same thing when I was reading the list! God, does that date us, or what?!! No – I’ve probably just read the same Jane Austen books you have, that’s all…
Maria, it’s so great to have everything spelt out for us – thank you for your diligent research and ‘translation’. I love that he’s involved (even just in name) in so many projects – hopefully they will all eventually come to pass. If not, something else will come along, and we’ll all go “oh, Rob’s so perfect for this role!” If things are meant to be, they will happen. I just wish they’d happen sooner rather than later!

Marie thanks on the explanation on Rob’s IMDB. I was wondering it you could explain to me the starmeter when it shows that it went up in rank a huge amount (this is mine personally) I really don’t understand why it would. The only thing is the film I last worked on is premiering on Friday.

@Kim – this is the explanation from IMDbPro:

“Plain and simple, they represent what people are interested in, based not on small statistical samplings, but on the actual behavior of millions of IMDb users. Unlike the AFI 100TM or Academy AwardsTM, high rankings on STARmeterTM, MOVIEmeterTM , and COMPANYmeterTM do not necessarily mean that something is “good.” They do mean that there is a high level of public awareness and/or interest in the title, person or company.

Users vote through their actions, every time someone visits an IMDb page about one of the over 2 million titles and over 5 million people in the database, we record that “pageview”. It is the sum total of these pageviews that form the foundation of the STARmeterTM, MOVIEmeterTM , and COMPANYmeterTM rankings.”

And for those who think viewing Rob’s page repeatedly increases his rating:

“Could someone “rig” the ratings by visiting an IMDb page repeatedly?

No. IMDb.com has over 160 million visitors each month. The STARmeterTM, MOVIEmeterTM , and COMPANYmeterTM rankings are based on a cumulative total of more than 3 billion pageviews per month. Furthermore, we have designed the ranking algorithm so that the actions of one user (or small group of users) has a limited impact; we monitor STARmeterTM rankings for any possible fraudulent traffic generation, and the algorithm is periodically improved to detect and neutralize any attempts to ‘stuff the ballot’.”

Hope that makes it clear 🙂

Can I ask what movie? Excite.
