Harmony Korine Says ‘The Trap’ With Robert Pattinson Is A “Super Propulsive, Pretty Highly Violent Revenge Movie”

What fabulous news to wake up to.  According to The Filmstage:

“In the conversation, Korine discussed the initial images that led to Spring Breakers, how he helped formulate James Franco‘s character, his current distaste for New York City (as well as his formative years there at NYU), and how Kids came about and Larry Clark discovering him. He also touched on his next feature The Trap, which we haven’t heard an update on since early this year. He confirmed the casting of Benicio Del Toro and Idris Elba (who are the two leads) as well as Robert Pattinson and Al Pacino, with production kicking off in January.

Set in the world of Miami music, it follows Del Toro’s character who gets locked up for a robbery involving Elba’s character and nearly 15 years later is back for revenge. Korine described it as “a complete sensory bombardment,” adding “the way I feel about storytelling now is that it’s more like liquid. It has to do more with energy.” He confirms there’s still a story to be told, saying it’s a “super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie.”

“For those interested about his career and thoughts on filmmaking, he recently sat down with Marc Maron for a 1.5-hour discussion.”

From The Playlist:

“It’s “a complete sensory bombardment,” he said about the movie, which is about a gangster rapper (played by Idris Elba) who becomes the target of revenge by an ex-con recently released from fourteen years in prison (Benicio Del Toro), with Robert Pattinson as part of the latter’s crew and Al Pacino as a parole officer. Korine confirmed the casting of each of those actors, but he made no mention of James Franco, who was said to star in previous trade reports.

“…the way I feel about storytelling now is that it’s more like liquid. It has to do more with energy,” Korine said of his approach, describing the “The Trap” as a “super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie.” Hot damn!

And while production on that picture will begin in January, Korine apparently still has lots of goodies yet to come. …”

From Thompson on Hollywood:

“Harmony Korine was eager to share details of his new film, Miami-set gang thriller “The Trap,” in an illuminating interview with Marc Maron. The daffy cult director also went to Florida for his last film, 2012’s “Spring Breakers.”

That film starred James Franco in the career-defying (and perhaps defining) role of a drug and arms dealer with custom grillz. In “The Trap,” Korine appears to be breaking down yet another American-iconic actor, Robert Pattinson, as the member of a crew of vengeful ex-cons led by Benicio del Toro. They’re targeting a gangster rapper, played by Idris Elba.

In the chat, Korine promises “a complete sensory bombardment” and a “super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie.” Right now “The Trap” is dated for 2017 release. It reunites Korine with cinematographer Benoît Debie, who gave arty party thriller “Spring Breakers” its kinetic cool. (Debie and director Gaspar Noe are also close co-conspirators.)” [My emphasis]

I need to find a spare 1.5 hrs!

Maria. I am keeping legs arms eyes and anything else I can crossed I am over the moon at this wonderful news. To me this is more proof that Rob’s star just keeps soaring higher and higher. The roles he is choosing are so far removed from safe sweet and yawn characters our boy is a serious actor up there with the best of the best actors. Rob is not interested in fluffy safe flake parts. Robert you are amazing.xxxx
