I love surprises on Monday

Thanks Posh.

I’m with Eric Lavallee on this one. You know Kumiko was in post production as at October and was released in January at Sundance.  We know Damsel has been in post since August.  Both don’t show “complete” on IMDbPro.  We also know very well that the Zellner Bros keep things very close to their chests and I don’t know anyone who knows 100% what the status of Damsel is right now.  As for the deadline for submission being closed?  You can still submit films after that time – especially if you have shown previously at festivals and as Eric mentions below ‘The festival has been especially thankful for their Zellner connection having also invited Goliath (2008) and Kid-Thing (2012) at the fest.”  Anyway, I’m just keeping my fingers crossed, but I was only discussing this yesterday that it’s a possibility and that is why I’m posting.

Screen Daily on High Life – AFM Buzz Titles

Wild Bunch will show a promo reel for Luc Jacquet’s March Of The Penguins 2 — The Call and continue sales on Claire Denis’ High Life, starring Robert Pattinson, Patricia Arquette and Mia Goth, as well as a slew of Cannes 2017 hopefuls including Michel Hazanavicius’s Jean-Luc Godard tribute Redoubtable, which shot over the summer, and Arnaud Desplechin’s Ismael’s Ghosts. [My emphasis]

Screen Daily on Damsel – AFM Launches Ambitious Slate:

Robert Pattinson western, Michael Douglas-exec’d drama among 10-15 strong slate. [My emphasis]

Having previously invested in a number of films to have secured US deals this year, including Rachel Weisz drama Complete Unknown [pictured] which went to Amazon, and Christine Vachon-produced The Goat, which was sold to Paramount for the world, the three-year-old company is now going hard at the international film sales space on projects it has invested in at an early stage.

… Also on the slate are Damsel, with Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska …

There are around 20 of us that work at the company in the UK and probably another six in New York. We’re expanding,” Halmi Jr told Screen.

“The international market is critical for us in the types of elevated films we’re making.”

Now this is interesting, Great Point Media (GB) is listed as a distributor (worldwide – all media) for Damsel on IMDbPro. I gather they will distribute in UK and I’ve noticed on past projects where they have been listed as “worldwide” other distributors are also involved.  For instance, they seem to have a relationship with Paramount Pictures.  I’m taking that from the film Goat, which also has Great Point Media listed as worldwide distributor, but it’s release in the US was via Paramount and I know it’s screening at the Sydney Film Festival this year was also via the Australian arm of Paramount.  From what I can tell they also provide funding and possibly management of getting films screened at film festivals.  In any event, it’s great to see that things are happening.  Stay tuned.

Haha I can’t wait for this film and I love their style.

Our next feature is a western called DAMSEL, and the research started long ago. #halloween #tbt

Another cast mate unveiled for Robert Pattinson on the Zellner Bros “Damsel”. IMDbPro has listed Landon Weeks as “himself” – saloon piano player. Can’t wait for this film – I find myself saying that often of late when it comes to Robert’s films.  Below is a YouTube video of Landon, but you can check out more information about this inspirational guy at his public Facebook page. Piano playing saloon owner + plus Rob and a guitar.  I hope we get a ditty!
