Mmmm… the very naughty Georges is always a delight. Rob does ‘manwhore’ so well (OK, a girl can dream). There’s just something about waistcoats and cravats that get me going – I think they ought to be mandatory for men nowadays. I can do without the top hats and canes, but the whole period costume is very very sexy on guys. Lovely post, Michelle!

Could someone answer my query. The Rover has had limited release and classed as an art house movie. I at last had the privilege to see it and I wasn’t disappointed. Rob was mesmerising, Guy was brilliant. Every time I try to find out what the box office takings are world wide I read snippits saying it “tanked in the USA, and had poor reviews in UK, I am confused, this movie was praised by the critics they loved it. Here in Australia the dvd will be released on15th October I have pre ordered my copy, so why are people now sledging it. I hope you will be able to answer my query.

@Barbara the movie always had mixed reviews, some critics liked it some didn’t from the get go. You should listen to David’s response to the critics http://michodskingdom.com/2014/08/16/audio-bbc-radio-4-david-answers-his-critics-who-said-there-was-no-plot-in-the-rover/. Overall though David, Rob & Guy have had some mighty fine praises from the general public. Rob especially has turned quite a few naysayers into believers of his acting ability.

I wish I could understand why it hasn’t done better than it did – people have blamed the promotion, I think the screening times in Australia didn’t help. Not sure why it was limited release either, but I think it’s more about what cinemas want to run with it because at the end of the day it is all about how much money they will make. They still have employees they need to pay. It really is one of the best films I’ve seen this year. I saw Boyhood last week – that has had incredible praise and people are talking Oscar predictions for Patricia Arquette. Don’t get me wrong – the film was good. I loved that it was filmed over 12 years with the same actors, but I’m not going to lie, it did not have the same emotional impact the The Rover did with me. Clearly I am in the minority.

David has often been quoted as saying that Australians don’t support Australian cinema and I know that doesn’t ring true for most of us here, but I do understand where he’s coming from. And he said that back in Animal Kingdom days.

Last I heard The Rover had earned about $3 million worldwide.

Hope that gives some clarification Barbara 🙂
