How many times have you watched the teaser now? Yep I know you’re like me, you’ve lost count. It is absolutely FANTASTIC.  Teases us perfectly & leaves us wanting more. The first reactions are out so thought I would share some here, I know how much we all love reading praise for Rob, Guy, David & the film. Have included excerpts & to read in full, click on the hyperlink.

FirstShowing.net:

This is one of those perfect teasers that shows just enough, but not too much, hinting at a rather brilliant “near future” action thriller about a loner in the Australian Outback who goes off to find his car after it’s stolen from him. This is one of the best teasers since Interstellar – give this one a watch right away.

I’m a big fan of David Michod (and interviewed him in 2010) and can’t wait to see what he’s cooking up with The Rover. There is an entrancing, mysterious vibe to this teaser and I’m excited to see what it’s all about.

Indiewire:

Four long years have passed since David Michôd shook up the cinematic world with his nerve jangling gangland drama “Animal Kingdom,” but it looks the wait has been worth it. The director is back with “The Rover,” and judging by the first teaser trailer, he’ll once again be putting you on the edge of your seat.

Starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson, the story is set in war-torn future beset by financial collapse, and follows a man who trudges across the Australian desert to locate his stolen car and secure the mysterious cargo found inside. But obviously, that logline is barely half the story with this first look promising a stark tale of violence in the desolate outback. Based on a story by Michôd and actor Joel Edgerton, in short, it looks like our instincts were right in ranking this so highly on our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2014.

Movies.com:

Filmmaker David Michôd impressed critics and audiences alike with his debut feature, the 2010 crime drama Animal Kingdom. We’ve spent the intervening years waiting to see what Michôd would come up with next, and we have an answer at last.

The trailer itself doesn’t really help clarify what’s going on with the story, but we didn’t care because it looks awesome. A grizzled Guy Pearce broods and blasts his way through some dirt-strewn buildings alongside a fairly unrecognizable Robert Pattinson? Sign us up now.

Up & Comers:

…It’s just a teaser, mostly montages of starkly beautiful but disturbing imagery narrated by Pearce, but it looks fantastic.

Hey U Guys:

After making a powerful feature directorial debut back in 2010 with the Oscar-nominated Animal Kingdom, David Michôd returns behind the camera for his anticipated sophomore effort, The Rover.

The film marks Pattinson’s first role since the conclusion of The Twilight Saga back in 2012, and we can’t wait to see him opposite Pearce in Michôd’s second feature. Pearce looks exceptional when you see him voicing the monologue voice-over, thoroughly convincing as a man who’s been alive for a decade after the collapse of society.

Gotchya Movies:

David’s Michod’s futuristic thriller, The Rover, finally has a teaser trailer and it looks to be an intense and violent thriller.

Robert Pattison and Guy Pearce star in the thriller that follows a loner tracking down the gang who stole his car from the Australian outback. The trailer doesn’t reveal much, which is a good thing as far as we’re concerned.

Twitch:

Australia’s David Michôd burst onto the international scene with his hugely acclaimed – and deservedly so – debut Animal Kingdom. An intense slice of urban crime, Animal Kingdom won Michôd comparisons to a young Martin Scorsese while in the process of winning Sundance and the success of that debut has left many – ourselves included – eagerly awaiting the arrival of his sophomore effort. And for that Michôd wrote a screenplay based on a story he developed with Joel Edgerton titled The Rover. In the leads are actors Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson.

They’re not telling you much but they’re showing a little bit more. ….Yes, it looks very much worthy of the man who created Animal Kingdom.

Bleeding Cool:

Animal Kingdom was an incredible feature debut from David Michod in 2010, so it’s exciting to finally get a glimpse of his follow-up film. Judging by this first teaser trailer for The Rover, it’s just as dark, gritty and intense as his first.

There’s just brief flashes of scenes with a Pearce voice-over here, but what we do see looks really great.

Empire:

David Michôd made a big impression with crime drama Animal Kingdom, and his follow-up, The Rover channels an even more intense setup.

Don’t go looking for anything in the way of plot, though, as this is much more of a mood piece. But what a mood!

The Film Stage:

Today brings the first look at footage from one of our most-anticipated films of the year, David Michod‘s Animal Kingdom follow-up The Rover. Set in the near-future, the “existential western” teams Guy Pearce with Robert Pattinson as they trek through the Australian desert to hunt down a gang of criminals who have stolen their car.

While it thankfully doesn’t show off any plot, the enticing, dark imagery is enough to get us on board.

Screen Crush:

We don’t envy the work Robert Pattinson has to do to shed the vampiric shadow the ‘Twilight’ franchise cast on his career, but the actor has done a remarkable job, so far. He’s being smart and working with visionary directors like David Cronenberg on ‘Cosmopolis‘ and David Michod (who directed the fantastic 2010 movie ‘Animal Kingdom’) on the upcoming film, ‘The Rover.’

Today, we have our first look at ‘The Rover’ trailer, which co-stars Guy Pearce (‘Iron Man 3‘) and looks like an impressive, intense thriller.

It’s hard to glean much from this trailer about the plot of the film, which sets more of a mood piece than anything else, but ‘The Rover’ is set 10 years in the future, following the collapse of society. When a gang of dangerous criminals steal his last remaining possession, his car, a man (Pearce) sets out for revenge with an injured member of the gang (Pattinson) by his side. (Michod actually wrote the story for the film with actor Joel Edgerton, who he worked with on ‘Animal Kingdom’.)

The vastly underrated ‘Animal Kingdom’ proved that director Michod was a creative force to follow and that alone would have us interested in ‘The Rover.’ But, there’s something about the intensity of this trailer that gives, what amounts to a pretty simple premise, a lot of weight. In fact, the film has been compared to ‘Mad Max’ (Australian outback, dystopian future, cars, gangs, etc.), but Michod says to expect something even more menacing than that film. More menacing than ‘Mad Max’? OK, we’re sold.

BIGFANBOY:

It’s safe to say Pattinson has actively been trying to do more diversified roles after the end of THE TWILIGHT SAGA film series, and this looks like a pretty engaging entry. If you never saw Michôd’s last film (ANIMAL KINGDOM), you missed out big time. This is a re-teaming of sorts for him and actor Guy Pearce, and it’s based on a story by Joel Edgerton (he and Pearce both starred in ANIMAL KINGDOM).

…the trailer may already be in the running for one of my favorites of the year.

Yahoo! Movies:

Michôd wastes no time in setting up his grim world in the teaser trailer, giving us a close-up of a scavenging vulture before ones of Pearce, who narrates with a quiet, seething intensity, and Robert Pattinson, who continues choosing interesting projects in his post-“Twilight” career (“Cosmopolis” was awesome, and everyone should’ve seen it).

The plot involves loner Eric (Pearce) pursuing the gang that stole his vehicle, forcing the member left behind (Pattinson) to help him, but there’s no trace of a narrative in this first look — it’s all about the startling images, moody atmosphere and sudden violence.

HitFix:

A tense, atmospheric new teaser reveals the film’s futuristic Australian setting, where society has collapsed and guns, fists and cars seem to be the extent of social interaction. Against this dystopian backdrop, a gang of criminals rob a desperate man (Pearce) of his sole remaining possession, and he goes on a dangerous quest to get it back, no matter what the cost. Along the way, he picks up an injured member of the gang who was left behind (Pattinson).

“Animal Kingdom” was a masterpiece of tension, and Michod seems to be working much in the same vein here. The teaser offers gorgeous twilit widescreen vistas, some spooky piano music, a brief car chase and Pearce’s rich voiceover.

We Are Movie Geeks:

From what we’ve seen of this first teaser, it’s no wonder the film is one of most anticipated films of 2014.

SlashFilm:

These days post-apocalyptic films are nearly a dime a dozen. But none of those have the pedigree of The Rover, written and directed by David Michôd, the man behind 2010 crime drama Animal Kingdom. His feature follow-up hits theaters this Summer, and stars Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson. Set ten years after the world has all but ended, Pearce plays a man forced to hunt down one of his prized possessions after it’s forcefully taken from him.

Sounds ominous, yes? Well the first teaser trailer just hit and there aren’t many more answers here. Just some impressive visuals and Pearce and Pattinson as you’ve never seen them before.

I’ve watched the trailer a few times so the movie I’ll probably watch more. I can see I am going to climb over the seats again with this movie. Rob is awesome just can’t get that image of him pushing himself against that tree out of my mind. I know I am going to be livid with Eric (guy) if he hurts Rob. 🙂
