According to Karl Quinn, National Film Editor for Fairfax Media:

“Pattinson has been cast as Dennis Stock, a photographer with the legendary Magnum agency who shot Dean for Life magazine in 1955. Dean himself will be played by Dane DeHaan.

The movie, Life, will focus on the road trip around the US the two men took for that shoot and the impact it had on both their lives.

According to a statement from See-Saw, Dennis Stock was ”26, old before his time, and already tied down to family life” when he met James Dean, whose fame was built on the back of starring roles in Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden (both 1955) and Giant (1956) before his death in a car accident at 24. The road trip the pair took together ”would change Stock’s life and provide the world with some of the most iconic images of the age.

… the film is expected to have a budget in the $10-$15 million range”

I like the budget too. No bells and whistles, just a great story told well.

Since hearing the disappointing news about Queen of the Desert, I’m just crossing everything, hoping this film gets the green light soon. The longer they hang around, the less chance these types of films have of getting made. Crowd-funding, film-makers. If everyone who watched that Dior ad offered a dollar, you’d have over half your budget covered by now. Power of the people, people!
