Will Comospolis Silence Doubts About Rob Pattinson?

Roberta sent me this interesting article by Page MacKinley from Gather.com which pretty much voices my thoughts about Rob and the critics.  Here’s an extract, but you know the drill, click on the link above to read the full article:

“The long list of skeptics includes The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney, who called Pattinson’s performance in Bel Ami “charisma free,” Variety’s Justin Chang who said pretty much the same, as did Movieline critic Stephanie Zacharek, and Filmoria’s Ria Tesia. Similar criticisms, varying in venom, scope, and degree, also came from Indiewire, the UK’s The Independent, Daily Mail, The Mirror, The Guardian, The Irish Times, The Telegraph, and the Metro, among others.

Voices of approval for Pattinson, though considerably fewer, came from the UK’s Financial Times, Digital Spy, Eye for Film, the Radio Times, Yahoo!, Cineuropa, Movieblog, WhatsOnStage and, to an extent, Sight and Sound. So will those critics now prematurely circling Pattinson change their minds when ‘Mopolis drops? Only time will tell.

But one thing is clear: Cronenberg, a near legend in his own right, and a man with over 30 years experience at spotting, enduring acting talent (Jeremy Irons and Viggo Mortensen to name only two) is no amateur. If he says Pattinson is great, it would serve movie-goers better if the critics who are paid to inform them, held their fire. And not just until ‘Mopolis hits theaters – but also after that.”

Yes that’s right they should hold their fire – maybe David was smart in giving Eric a gun *giggles* – oops.

Thanks again Roberta!

I am not the owner of the truth but I see in Rob all the good qualities that make a nice actor. He will be great if he wants. He is charismatic, handsome, photogenic, friendly, patient, talented, a good listener, intelligent, gentleman, classy. Rob had a big chance in his career when he did Twilight, now he only needs to relax, select good jobs and get experience.
It will be wonderful if he challenge himself, working with other great directors like Cronenberg. They love actors like Rob, who listen to their advices and are open to experiment new things.
I see Rob working in a near future with Tarantino, Woody Allen, Spielberg, Scorsese, Cronenberg again, and the new directors like Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Tomas Afredson ( Tinker,Tailor ), Fernando Meirelles ( City of God), Steve McQueen (Shame), JJ Abrams ( Super 8) and many others.
I dream with Rob working with producer Harvey Weinstein. He is the Boss. He knows everything. I will be happy to see Rob working in a movie produced by him with Colin Firth and Meryl Streep. I love dreaming!! 🙂

Oh dear lord @LTavares2012 do not tease me with Refn nor McQueen. I would love love love for Rob to work with them although McQueen loves Fassbender – so I wouldnt know back a movie with Rob and Fassbender together. I don’t even want to go there with Streep and Firth – it would be like living a dream.

Oh jeez – this was a great read Maria, thank you. It would be nice if people backed the fudge off and let him breathe. I am calm and in my happy place rather than let them get to me. o.O Thanks for posting this!!

@LTavares2012 – what a wonderful comment!! 🙂 Excellent dreams you have there and I will join you in wishing it all for Rob and more! 🙂 Can’t wait to see what the future holds for him – *waits for Eric to tease us tomorrow.*

For me, the most frustrating thing about the critics is that many of them don’t research. They don’t put Rob’s work in context. He did BA two years ago. Considering how long he has been acting, that is significant. And many don’t know that Cronenberg has anointed Rob or they may take a bit of that poison from their words before they have to eat them, like Page MacKinley has pointed out.
We only ask that they leave their prejudices at the door and review what is front of them. Isn’t that what they are supposed to be doing anyway?
This is a wonderful artical. Thanks for posting Maria

Loved this article. I think if these people judged based on what they actually see in front of them rather than preconception/misconception then perhaps we wouldn’t even be discussing this but then I don’t have any doubts as to Rob’s talent!!!!

Firstly let me thank Roberta and Maria for updating us. Secondly I totally agree with everything that you all said before me. So let’s wait and see what they have to say after Cosmopolis comes out.
@LTavares I am dreaming with you of Rob working with these amazing, talented people in the cinema world. I am sure it would be a dream for him too because he is a true cinephile and a movie buff. and I wish it for him with all my heart.
