Cosmopolis Makes Another “Most Anticipated” List for 2012

Hmmm “no agenda, but the truth baby” – I’m hoping that doesn’t come back to bite you Ricky D, because although you’ve included Cosmopolis at no. 15 of your 30 Most Anticipated films at SoundonSight you’ve kind of had a dig, I think, at Rob by insinuating he’s not part of the “impressive cast”.  Seeing as I have no agenda but the truth either, I’m going to assume that’s not what you mean, or you will at least be eating humble pie and retracting that comment once you’ve seen the movie.  Otherwise we might have to ponder what the “D” actually stands for … Michelle I think you have a suggestion:

“15- Cosmopolis

While P.T. Anderson may be my favourite American filmmaker working today, David Cronenberg is not only my favourite Canadian filmmaker, but is somewhere on my list of my ten favourite directors of all time. The man has only made one film that I did not like (guess which one) and I’d easily place about five of his films on my top 100. Here Cronenberg adapts a critically revered and best-selling novel and places teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson at the centre, as a newlywed billionaire who ends up losing his bride and his billions in a single day. A bunch of Cronenberg’s favourite themes are explored, including man’s relationship with modern technology, murder and yes, sexual obsession. Apart from Pattinson, the impressive cast includes Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric.”

PS.  Ricky – that pic above looks more man than teen heartthrob to me … just sayin

Indeed I do Maria, starting with D – 4 letters!! *glares* that better NOT be what you meant Ricky.

There is going to be SO much humble pie eaten this year – oh so very much. Cannot freakin’ wait!

Yes well Ricky *insert really bad word I better not use on here because I dont want to be kicked off here for life* David Cronenburg is obviously a smarter man then you will ever be because he cast Rob in the movie.

Definitely more man than teen heart-throb, Maria. And how could anyone NOT trust their favourite director’s casting choices?!! I think it just pains some critics to admit the truth when it comes to Rob.

LOL @Cindy – kicked off for defending Rob …. never.

Haha Cindy, yep never going to happen. We’d be worried if you DIDN’T defend Rob.

Yeah well if he is at all as devoted to Cronenberg’s work as he makes out to be, he would have faith in David’s choice in Rob.
Can’t wait till Ricky has to tell the tale of how he wished he’d warn nappies to the screening. What? Well it’s obvious he’s going to fill his pants from the shock he experiences upon witnessing the mind blowing brought on by Rob’s performance. Too much? Ok humble pie it is.

Teen heart throb…..teen ..pfff….. heart throb ..yes. I’m going to choose to believe that his choice of word was bad rather than he not having faith in Rob otherwise I’d have to say that he makes no sense whatsoever.

If he is having a dig at Rob he’s just another narrow minded critic who will end up eating his words!

So true Michelle time to fire up the oven and get baking girls! *Nods to Vertigo* totally agree, if he is such a Cronenberg fan have faith in the master.

Why stop at four letters Maria the possibilities are endless!

    Val

    • January 10, 2012 at 11:51 pm

Does anyone actually use that phrase now for reals?!! “heart-throb”…..gawd….. Any possibility the guy meant “in addition to” instead of “apart from”; maybe his English is really bad, lol?! It may take a while for this sort of thinking to change, but keep those smug smiles on, girls, coz 2012 is going to show us some hilarious humble pie 🙂 Many thanks in advance, RPAU, for bringing that inevitable humble pie to us…can’t wait!

It’s just a shame that these twats (yes Vicky, I love that word for people like this too) will only deign to watch one of Rob’s films when Cronenberg is directing.

I agree… with you girls of cause! How can you be excited about a director’s work and not feel excitement for the lead actor? As our humble and very talented Rob loves to point out, movie making is a team effort. If one of the elements lets the side down then the movie won’t work. David wouldn’t let that happen. Have faith D

Agree with you all here ladies (you are all awesome by the way) – I’m so tired of narrow minded comments and barely disguised digs (ok some are not disguised at all) but we KNOW Rob is an amazing actor and so does Cronenberg. I just can not wait to see the results of this collaboration and hope the humble pie goes down smoothly for all those who will need it. 😉

    Thanks for posting Maria.

Thank you so much for the kind words, and for both judging me and attacking me all at once.

First: The list is in no particular order. I am as excited for Cosmopolis as I am for The Master.

Second: It only makes sense that I am more excited for the film because of the director as appose to the actor since he has a longer track record of making movies I happen to love. This is a personal opinion and everyone is of course entitled to their opinions. I just don’t understand how you all somehow misread in that one brief paragraph that I somehow was apposed to the casting of Pattinson?

Finally: The sentence simply had a word missing. It reads, “Apart from Pattinson, the impressive cast includes Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric”.

The sentence was missing the word ALSO … it should have read, “ Apart from Pattinson, the impressive cast ALSO includes….

Next time instead of acting like internet trolls you could have simply left some constructive criticism.

Your actions are no different than all those assholes who verbally attack celebrities like Pattinson, by leaving nasty comments on blogs and websites. Why stoop to their level?

Not cool girls… very not cool.

I am sorry that I am human and can make mistakes including leaving out a word in a sentence. As someone who runs a blog, I am sure you know just how much work is involved. Maybe next time you will think twice before attacking another fellow blogger who works overtime simply for his love of cinema. And perhaps you will realize what it is that I meant to say and at least have the decency to address it before putting nailing me to a cross.

    Best,

    Ricky D

    p.s.

D is clearly the initial of my last name. I am Portuguese but grew up in a French city. While I do love eating pie, I prefer apple. And while everyone is a critic, I am not a critic in the sense that it is my occupation.

    Much love,

hmmm and for some reason my comment defending my article was never approved ?

    • January 12, 2012 at 7:54 am

Well Ricky thanks for the clarification But us girls on here here will defend Rob till the end and sorry but I was taught in English at school the one of the first things you do is proof read what you have written yes? And internet trolls? none on here thank you very much!!!

    Maria

    • January 12, 2012 at 7:59 am

I’m sorry Ricky D we are not “assholes” nor “internet trolls” and perhaps English is not your first language (and that comment is not meant as a “personal attack”). If you read my article, I gave you the benefit of the doubt and said I was hoping you weren’t having a “dig” at Rob not being part of the impressive cast.

Just so you know – when you use the phrase “Apart from”, it usually means “with the exception of” – hence why the misunderstanding, so adding ALSO really doesn’t clarify it. Maybe if you really want to include Rob as part of the “impressive” cast, you could start the sentence with “In addition to Pattinson, …”.

In any event, I’m glad you came on and sorted it out, but it’s kind of ironic that you alluded to us as “assholes” and reprimand us for not leaving you constructive criticism isn’t it. I mean I’m saying that as a fellow blogger who also doesn’t do this for a living – as you can see we make no money from this site and that is intentional. I don’t see what you have done as any different from what you are criticising us for. Maybe you should think about that next time.

Having said that, if you want to come back after you’ve seen Cosmopolis and let us know what you thought of “Pattinson” we’d be more than happy to hear it – positive or negative. And you would prefer “apple” rather than “humble” – duly noted.

And as I mentioned on Twitter – your comment wasn’t approved due to a glitch in WordPress we often have not because I didn’t want you to defend yourself. The time difference in Australia also doesn’t help.

Again sorry I am not perfect and upon proof reading the article, missed out on a word.

Again you assume things. You assume I don’t proof read articles. You assume we don’t have editors.

Clearly you are all perfect right?

I also realize that you sort of gave me the benefit of the doubt but not without directly insulting me first. I guess not directly calling me a dick but insinuating it makes it ok in your books?

Yes I am calling your actions that of internet trolls. and yes I would place it amongst an asshole thing to do.

I wonder if any of you are even familiar with Cronenberg’s work?

I’m betting that when the movie comes out, I will be a huge fan of the film and the majority of you will hate it. Only time will tell.

I won’t be back to let you know my thoughts but I’ll be more than happy to share this story with Pattinson upon interviewing him. I’m sure he’ll get a laugh out of it as well.

I’m sure you are all very nice people and clearly die hard fans, but an apology would have been nice.

With that said I apologize for making a mistake but not for defending myself.

    Best

    R

    Maria

    • January 12, 2012 at 9:53 am

No worries Ricky – you do that – you tell Rob when you interview him about us. I’m sure he will be um thrilled. When I interview him I’ll let him know you think we are assholes – I’m sure his world will be turned upside at that.

You clearly have come on here to do what you despise – and that is be a troll. I mean you definitely were inferring that Rob is not part of the stellar cast and yet – when I recommend the proper use of the English language you just ignore it and claim we are insulting you. Again, irony – maybe you need to look up what that means in a dictionary.

And yet again, you are having a silent dig at Rob for assuming none of us as his fans would know or be familiar with Cronenberg’s work. Now who’s ASSuming.

I’d apologise to you, but I didn’t actually come out and call you a dick – I might have inferred other people did, but you blatantly have now come on here and told us what you think. Let’s call it even … m’kay and leave it at that. Really I have better things to do than argue with a “non critic” as you call yourself – it’s not like you are Ebert.

@Val – I just approved your comment and it’s disappeared – can you remember what you said so I can post?

    • January 12, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Lol @Maria, I nearly copied that one as it was such a novel, in case it disappeared…but I didn’t. Damn! I do believe I am only capable of profoundness once a day at most, lol!
Think it went something like this, though it was a little more eloquent the first time 🙂
    ….
My apologies (to Ricky D, if he’s still reading) for hitting on the idea that the English might have been the problem, but not taking that idea seriously enough. (I know you definitely gave him the benefit of the doubt in your original post Maria). Twat for troll, I guess some of the insults are even now.

Again for Ricky D, I think the main reason the “diehards” react defensively is unfortunately due to many past interviewers’ inappropriate and completely disrespectful questions & assumptions to Rob. Ricky, if you are lucky enough to get some time with him soon, I am really looking forward to seeing your refreshing, original and movie-relevant interview.
Through this amazing website (a website that is not free of time or money to run, but does not seek to make any return on that investment), I have learned how best to appreciate and support Robert Pattinson & his work – and that is to simply watch his work as an actor, musician, and portrait subject – all of it, including the franchise stuff he continually gets slammed for participating in, without buying into most of the headlines purported by either end of the spectrum (film critics to gossip columns). His work will speak for itself regardless of the (praised or unpraised) director, co-stars, script, and genre, or whether we “like” the film as a whole. This is the slice of the pie of which we speak, that we here eat every time we have the courage to watch it all and stand up, as a fan with integrity and loyalty.

Being a supporter of Robert Pattinson is a hard road if you’re female and over the age of 15, lol! Every word must be chosen so carefully. This is the first and only fan website I’ve ever posted on, and I come here because I feel it is a safe environment to do so and I know I won’t be condemned for my choice of actor to support. If in my knee-jerk defence of this haven I have unwittingly become a troll, that’s my bad. But the marvellous ladies who give their time & money to run this site are not and never will be anything less than marvellous in my eyes, as they bring happiness & safe freedom of expression to so many (no mean feat) & are unswerving in their loyalty to Robert and his work.

Wow! Fantastic post Val. You too Maria. Your original post definitely gave benefit of doubt.

Trolls huh? Yes, I definitely think we are even in the name calling now Ricky. 😉 I think the most we can be accused of in here is being passionate in our defence of someone we respect and care a great deal about. @Val said it way better than I ever could, but I am truly tired of reading/hearing negative stories or comments about Mr Pattinson and therefore I will assume the worst when reading a comment like that in the original article by RD. this is a truly wonderful & respectful site dedicated to Mr Pattinson so yes, forgive us if we take offense at any negative comments about him/his career (intended or otherwise).

Anyway, great if that wasn’t the original intent of the article. I guess I can let go of my inner troll. 🙂 cheers

Everything has been said & way better than I could ever put it. I’ll just add…

Ricky, you must understand that when we read a comment that we see as a negative, we are naturally going to defend Rob & defend him hard. What sort of people would we be if we didn’t? I don’t apologise for that, I’ll NEVER apologise for that.

Oh & while we’re talking ‘insults’, you gave your fair share & they were way worse than anything we may have said.

How about we leave it at that & just enjoy the brilliant film that is going to be Cosmopolis. I can guarantee you, we WON’T hate it as you suggested we would 🙂

Oh dear… and here I thought this was a Rob sanctuary where we could express ourselves when appreciating the Rob. Should I come across something or someone I disagree with, I like to keep it among friends who share a similar passion and perhaps understand my distress. Which is why I don’t go trolling around the internet with intentions of dumping on other people’s blogs or sites. It stays in house if you know what I mean.

Wow really I don’t know what to say. Fine for you to come and explain yourself and your intention of the article is perfectly fine Mr D, but seriously referring to us as “trolls” and “assholes” is just downright rude and unnecessary and frankly you have just made yourself look a whole lot worse.

You were given the benefit of the doubt by the author of this post and the people commenting are free to interpret how they see fit. As you said everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And for the record, don’t assume what we would or wouldn’t know about David Cronenberg’s films. I for one have studied film at University and don’t like your assumptions of my knowledge or tastes.

Val you said it all beautifully hun 🙂

And my statement that there are lots of words that start with D remains. Interpret that how you wish.

Never change what you do here girls. You are valued, respected and loved and for the record very very cool!

And now we return to our normal programming……

We here, care about the man too, very very much. I’ll never apologise for it, never & I know you are all on the same page.
