Cronenberg Makes Critics Stand Up & Pay Attention

Nick Newman of the The FilmStage hasn’t told us anything new here since I posted The Playlist article in the previous post (scroll down).  But two things caught my attention with this short article and I’ve highlighted and underscored them for ease:

“The wait between David Cronenberg‘s Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method spanned more than four years, so it’s weird to consider that the follow-up to his psychology drama hits in less than twelve months. Anyone following the crazy Canadian knows that I’m talking about Cosmopolis, the Robert Pattinson-starrer that completed production months ago. Although some had predicted a Sundance premiere, Cronenberg‘s recent comments to ThePlaylist make it clear — we’ll have to wait a smidgen longer.

He put it rather simply: “The movie will be done sometime in January, but it won’t be released for about a year, this time next year.” Kind of a bummer, right? Two things should brighten the proceedings: He did express the (obviously biased) opinion that “Robert Pattinson is brilliant in it.” I honestly can’t wait to see what he’s brought out of him.

Second, at least someone who dreads awards season — e.g., me — will be a little happy that post-production work on Cosmopolis is keeping him out of the campaign spotlight. As Cronenberg said, “I’m going to run away and hide from all that. I’m going to Paris, and I won’t be in the awards, I’ll be happily in my new movie.” A man who wants to make quality movies, not win awards. That’s becoming less and less common today.”

And there you have it – I’m stating the obvious but it’s no wonder Rob’s so nervous about this film.  He’ll either be crucified or sainted.  I’m expecting the latter, but yeah there will always be critics who can’t man up and admit they were wrong.  Oh well it must be sad to live in their worlds.

Oh, I am definitely starting to fangirl over David Cronenberg lol!!
@maria – YOU PUT IT PERFECTLY with your comments at the end. But it will be sooooo good when a few of the critics eat their words. And I agree with you totally – Rob will either be crucified or sainted. I had not thought about that before to be honest…I was too caught up in the praise that Cronenberg keeps giving Rob to even consider it. But that’s how the industry works, you are absolutely right. Don’t worry Rob! Have faith in your abilities and in Mr Cronenberg – I am sure you will blow all of us away.
The only thing that upsets me is the fact we ‘ll have to wait nearly a whole year long to see Eric. Why so cruel David? why? Please bring us the trailer as soon as you can.
