Oh Roberta you so probably already know this, but according to Variety, Rai Cinema has picked up “Cosmopolis”.

“Italy’s RAI Cinema — which has a massive 22 pics unspooling in Venice — has announced several international acquisitions, including David Cronenberg’s Don DeLillo adaptation “Cosmopolis,” Rob Cohen’s revenge thriller “I, Alex Cross,” and Jan de Bont’s China-set “Mulan …

It acquired “Cosmopolis” starring Robert Pattinson from Gaul’s Kinology; “I, Alex Cross,” toplining Tyler Perry, from QED Intl.; and the live-action “Mulan,” starring Ziyi Zhang, from Arclight Films Intl. unit Easternlight Films …” (my emphasis)

Oh how I love seeing the phrase “starring Robert Pattinson”  …

Trying to read through the lines here… Is it a change in distributor or is this the usual procedure and something to do with venice.
Bit of a novice here and I am desperate to see this movie – does it mean we may be seeing it sooner than expected.

To anyone who feels like thinking for me this morning, your efforts would be appreciated 🙂

@Liz all it means is that is who will distribute the movie in Italy. There’s no reading between the lines. Every film has a different distributor in Australia depending on their affiliations with the production house. For instance, Hoyts Distribution (which has nothing to do with Hoyts Cinemas) is the distributor of all Twilight/Summit films. They released Remember Me in Australia too. Of course, TweniethCenturyFox has it’s own Sydney office and hence why they distributed Water For Elephants.

Not all films get distributors though – How To Be struggled to get an Australian company to distribute it hence why RPAU’s original owner, Cilla, organise the screening here in Sydney. Thankfully Madman Entertainment agreed to release to DVD here.

It all depends on who buys the film for distribution and whether they think it will be profitable. For instance, Kojo Pictures had the rights to distribute Little Ashes in Australia and they were only going to release straight to DVD. It seriously took 12 months of nagging (yes I’m proud of that) until they finally agreed to do a limited cinema release.

Hope that gives you some background of how it’s done.

Oh and Liz – still no word on an Aussie distributor, but I’ll keep you posted.

    Thanks @Maria.

I have never been THIS much of a fan before – possibly because there is none else close to Rob out there 😉 so I don’t really understand all the goings on.

    you’re a legend! Thanks again

And by the way ladies… don’t worry, movies starring Robert Pattinson at this very moment will always find a distributor, it’s money in the bank! Same way they find money and producers to make a movie with Rob! Money money!!!
