The Scorecard Review – Bel Ami Trailer

I love positive reviews … you know I do and this well it sounds a little like me *giggles*. According to Shane T Nier of The Scorecard Review:
“There are certain actors I find myself rooting for. For one reason or another I rally behind them and hope they succeed. Robert Pattinson is one of those actors. I hate that he became part of a franchise with such vehement hatred spewed its way, making it difficult for him to be taken seriously. A lot of people hold Twilight against him and that’s too bad because I think he has legitimate talent. That itself is probably a crazy statement to some, but I stand behind it. I’m hoping Bel Ami is a film that helps Pattinson start to rid the bad, sparkling vampire taste from some folk’s mouths.
Before this trailer I wasn’t really aware of Bel Ami. I wasn’t familiar with the novel by Guy de Maupassant either, so I didn’t have any idea what to expect. What I got looks like a fairly interesting story of a man using his considerable charms to seduce the wives of influential men in order to boost his social status. Pattinson looks fine as the lead, but his co-star Uma Thurman looks less than impressive. Thurman has rarely impressed me outside her work in Tarantino films, so this doesn’t shock me, but I still hope the film proves her to give a stronger performance than the trailer leads me to believe. Kristin Scott Thomas also makes a welcome appearance and I’m certainly not a person who would casually write off a film that is smart enough to cast her. The story of Bel Ami intrigues me, but the trailer also shows off some strong production values. Between the plot, the sets and especially the costumes, this is a film I’ll definitely give a look when I get a chance to see it.
With the end in sight for Twilight, here’s hoping Robert Pattinson can break out of the franchise and make a name for himself on his own merits. I’m not sure if Bel Ami is going to be the film that achieves this, but this trailer gives me hope it can serve as a step in the right direction, and be a good film in its own right.”
Shane you are a wise wise reviewer – as for “Pattinson looks fine as the lead” – I couldn’t agree more – actually I agree with everything you have said surprisingly. I’m holding up my scorecard for you and it says 10!
Thanks to StrictlyRob for the tip.

Shane you are one very smart man. Oh I love it when people give Rob the credit he so so truly deserves *grins* HUGE *thumbs up* to you Shane 😀 Thanks for sharing Maria. Georges, the day we find out the release date when we will finally see you, I am going to do a major happy dance!!
liz
ITA ladies!
Shane, what an excellent review.
I love that he has drawn attention to how narrow-minded the twilight-haters can be.
Lets hope a few more critics will use their brains as well and judge Rob on his merits, and not stay on the anti-twilight bandwagon.
Have been thinking about Bel Ami a lot lately. Can’t wait for that release date!
Vicky
What a brilliant review. Thank you Shane for being willing to judge on performance and talent rather than preconceived ideas. Rob so deserves all the good that is coming his way and it is so good to hear people speaking positively about him and his talent. I cannot wait to hear the release date for Bel Ami, now that will bring about dancing in the streets, of that you can be sure!!!!
Carolyn
I get goosebumps on my goosebumps when I watch that trailer, he’s so brilliant. He brings out that primal instinct in me (I think I actually grunted) when I hear Georges speak with such passion.
OMG, RELEASE THIS MOVIE ALREADY!!
I really hope Shane is one of many to give this movie(trailer at least) the thumbs up. I know we all will.
ephie
At last!!! Someone that can recognize talent when he sees it!! Hallelujah! I hope he is right and that a lot of critics will be able to realize Rob’s talent and stop seeing him as that “sparkly vampire”.
Made my day @maria (which has been pretty sh..ty until now) – I am smiling now like a fool.
Cindy
Very smart man indeed and Shane those movies are less than they could be because of bad scripts, no creative input from the actors {Rob has said this in interviews when asked about doing another franchise} and no money put back into them unlike the Harry potter movies. Having said that Rob has done a fantastic job playing the role of Edward and in my humble opinion done the very best he could with what he was given. Sorry to sound like a whinging winnie or a negative nellie.

Thank you for such a wonderful review. The trailer is very positive and I wish Rob could be given credit and acknowledgement that he deserves. He works hard, attempts and succeeds at different roles and is gorgeous. More credit needs to be given to him. I agree with you all.
Maria
Aww @Cindy let’s be fair to Catherine Hardwicke – she gave Rob creative input – after all – his songs were featured and um – the line “it does in my world” is Rob’s. Hmmm I think he chose “spider monkey” too lol. I’m pretty sure Chris Weisz probably did as well – I think Slade is the only one that dictated everything which probably explains to me why the entire film was epic fail for me and why I don’t recall Rob saying anything much about Slado. At least we know Rob has input re his hair – if only they had filmed Cosmopolis prior to BD – now that haircut on Edward would have been epic.
Cindy
Oh Yes @Maria Sorry how did I forget about Hardwicke! LOL! Oh so true the Eric haircut would have been brilliant! 😛
Maria
@Cindy probably because it feels like eons ago that we saw Rob in Twilight.
Vertigo
Ah Shane, you are a gem among lemons.
Carmel
Great review. I expect we will see more of them when the Twilight movies are completed. However, the people that matter appear to be noticing Rob’s work. And Rob seems to have the patience to wait for the haters to catch up.
Isabella
Absolutely wonderful review
I know that Rob can be a good actor, I thought he proved it in WFE, just a really great
interview, thats all I can
say….Oh, and he is just
such a wonderful guy.
