LA Times Speaks About Jeff Buckley Biopic

We have all seen the rumours about Rob’s involvement with this film, they’ve been circulating for long enough. Thanks to LA Times we now have this info which we thought we’d post to set the record straight:
“New rumors swirling around the long-awaited Jeff Buckley biopic have falsely pitted actor Penn Badgley as the lead in the film about the late singer-songwriter. According to the film’s co-producer, Orian Williams, the gossip surrounding the “Gossip Girl” star is compounded on further inaccuracies that “Twilight” heartthrob Robert Pattinson had been considered a shoe-in for the role of the enigmatic singer-songwriter.
“Penn is not involved in the film at all,” Williams said in a phone interview. “It’s crazy how these stories get out.” When asked about Pattinson’s involvement with the film, Williams said that although he’s a fan of the British actor, he’d only had preliminary meetings with Pattinson, who was interested in auditioning for the film project, now almost six years in the making. Williams, along with producer Michelle Sy, casting director Billy Hopkins and executive producer Mary Guibert, Buckley’s mother, are still seeking out actors for the casting process, which will likely begin in October, Williams said.
Most likely, the film will star an unknown actor who can portray Buckley without the weight of any preconceived Hollywood expectations, added Williams, who helped cast Sam Riley in the lead role of Ian Curtis in the 2007 biopic “Control” about the Joy Division front man. Williams said he’s hoping to follow the same standards of finding someone with a low profile who can deliver Buckley’s intense personality and haunting falsetto. “[The producers] are all very unified in our search to find the perfect person to play Jeff,” Williams said.”
It would have been AMAZING to see Rob play Jeff, singing in a movie *sigh*, but there are TONNES of brilliant roles in Rob’s future & really, after all this time – I don’t think any of us believed the constant rumours. Thanks @Larry411 and Michelle for posting this. I think I’ve said it before that I would have been surpised if Rob was involved with this film at this stage of his career – given how cautious he is about his own music and not wanting people to think he’s cashing in. Anyway that’s just me. And to be honest – unless I hear Rob actually say he’s definitely involved I never believe it.
It’s like Akira disappearing from his IMDb – I don’t doubt he’s approached or given these scripts, but it doesn’t mean Rob’s definitely doing it.
Oops I’m rambling. Anyway … Rob can you please let us know what you are definitely doing post Cosmopoolis – I’m patient but not that patient and this is the first time in years that there hasn’t been an “In Development” or “Future Projects’ on your IMDbPro account and I don’t like it!
Oh hello Pic of the Day – Michelle – how do you expect me to function now that I’ve seen that? Very very sneaky.
Liz
Oh well…
I totally agree @Maria & it would probably have been a hard slog during the whole production thing for rob to get past all the “experts” and their ignorant negativity anyway.
– not that he wouldn’t have done a beautiful job and the idea of Rob cast as a musician would have made my year, but…
I’m still holding out hope for rob to one day release that cc of his own music in his own style…

im with u girls its bee hard for me not to see something in his IMDB but i just remember something that he want to take a year off from work where i read this i dont know any way he don so great movies and now all the big important people on the Film industry know him so if its not Jeff Buckiey,s biography there is another for him out there i know that and i can feel it too his new project or movie will be a big one and will make us proud of him
thanks for u @larry411 and u to Michelle for this post its nice to know what is going on

Rob playing Jeff Buckley would have been my dream come true and it is interesting to read that Rob is keen. But I do understand that having an unknown play Jeff will keep the focus on Jeff, where the filmmakers want it to be.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed anyway and will keep the dream alive wishing I am a fly on the wall at that audition

I’ve struggled with how to word my comment (shocking to me as well LOL) but here goes. I would have loved to see Rob play Jeff Buckley. Both have the most beautiful haunting voices but I am glad that they are looking for an unknown for the role. I think there are still way too many people who are just waiting to jump on anything Rob does as they are too small minded to see beyond Edward Cullen and that would have been an injustice to both Rob and Jeff Buckley. I do however hope that Rob will feel the time is right to work on his music and make a CD at some stage, that would be pure heaven.
Carmel
@Vicky – I’m just glad you commented at all *waves* 🙂
Jules
Very well said everyone – love your comments. I hope one day he gets the opporunity to do his music whether it be for a movie like this or in his own right (eeeek). I’ll take whichever comes quicker to be honest. 😉 He’s got too much musical talent to not do something in future….*keeps fingers crossed* A world without that possibility would be a very dark one indeed.
That was quite profound. I’m leaving before I spoil it. LOL
Vicky
Hi Carmel *waves*.
Maria
Very profound @Jules – and 100% true!

@mema I don’t think that source was reliable re Rob taking a year off – I’ve not heard him say that at all. In fact remember he said he had “tonnes of movies” coming out. I know he’s fussy and I’m glad he is, but Rob taking a year off now would be bad timing for his career – he really isn’t that established yet and unfortunately in that industry – it’s all about making money off the “star” and so even though Rob is not in it for the money – the backers and financiers are.

I agree Maria, I think it is important that Rob keep having roles to perform. Even though the suggestion is that there are tonnes out there I haven’t heard of anything that Rob has taken up. Hope he something soon.
