The Hollywood Reporter Reviews Water For Elephants

And here come the reviews … Â Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter thinks the “film will please fans of Sara Gruen’s best seller, but it lacks the vital spark that would have made the drama truly compelling on the screen“. Â Well this is the first review or comment I’ve seen that wasn’t impressed by this film, I mean I found the trailers compelling enough, I can only imagine what they are going to be like on the big screen. Â I just thought I’d share this because in amongst the negative, there is a positive:
“Under Francis Lawrence’s sleekly studied direction, everything has been smoothed out to the extent that even dire poverty does not seem entirely unappealing. Certainly the three leads never do. Looking 300 per cent better than he did in his last non-â€Twilight†outing, “Remember Me,†Pattinson is entirely convincing as Jacob, a Cornell veterinary school student who escapes from the ruin provoked by his parents’ untimely death by almost inadvertently joining the circus.”

I get what he’s trying to say but from everything we’ve seen I just don’t see it. I am mesmerised as I watch the clips and trailer so it certainly has the spark for me!!!
Carmel
The story is basically a love story. So smoothing out the rough edges of this era is in keeping with that I believe.
There’s not much about Rob in the article. I find that strange.

I agree @Vicky. I get goosebumps everytime I see the trailer.
And @Carmel – tell me about it. I re-read it twice thinking I’d missed the section on Rob at all.
Perhaps he’s getting in early to poke fun at the big blockbuster that everyone loves so he can remain an efficient critic – didn’t have anything negative to say about Rob, so just glossed it over.
An odd review definitely.
