Can Water For Elephants Be The First Great Movie Of 2011?

That is the question Movie Line are asking.  Our answer is of course – HELL YES!!!!  This is what Movie Line’s Christopher Rosen has to say:

The Internet is popping with loving reviews for Gore Verbinski’s Rango, but might Water for Elephants be the first great, no-caveats-like-it’s-animated film of the year? If the second trailer for the Reese Witherspoon-Robert Pattinson three-hanky weeper is any indication, quite possibly.

I know: You’ve probably got fangs knives out for Water for Elephants, if only because of the presence of Edward Cullen (ahem Christopher, his name’s Rob Pattinson – my emphasis) and director Francis Lawrence (he of the immortal I Am Legend), but we’re now two trailers deep into the marketing campaign for this thing, and it still looks kinda great. Well, it looks good, thanks to Lawrence and his cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (Brokeback Mountain, Biutiful), but it actually seems like a worthwhile adaptation of Sara Gruen’s bestseller. Pattinson makes for a winning-but-tortured protagonist, Witherspoon has a great classic movie goddess (not goddesses, Charlie Sheen) vibe, and Christoph Waltz seems perfectly capable of pulling off the mustache twirling villainy that Water for Elephants needs. Considering how bad this early crop of 2011 movies has been — and how the prospects for March don’t look that much better — isn’t it possible for Elephants to be the best film of 2011*? Here’s hoping…

[*Through April 22, when Water for Elephants opens.]

VERDICT: Sold.

It is so great to see WFE receiving some positive press already.  So many people are going to be eating their words when the film comes out.  Those who have in the past doubted & chose to ignore the brilliant talent that is Rob will no longer be able to hide behind their blinders.   Humble pie eaten – you betcha & lots of it. And we cannot wait!!

    Yes!

Sorry am just answering the post title.

Oh Michelle – you should have posted the pic of Rob with pie on his face – because that’s the humble pie they will be eating. Oh wait – c’mon no naughty corner references please about what you want to do with that pie …

    YES to the question!
it will be mine majorly because of the presence of Rob…not that i am prejudiced or anything. He was fabulous in Little Ashes and Remember Me…among other great non-Twilight movies. He can only get better and does not depend on what the media critics say. Movies are for entertaining. WFE will be fabulously entertaining. thanks for the post, Michelle.

It will be so sweet when I get to say I told you so.

Sorry Michelle, where are my manners. Thankyou so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule today to bring us this article. 🙂
