Golden Years: “It Does In My World”
Three Twilight movies with three brilliant performances from Rob – which to choose?? In the end I decided to go with one of my many fave scenes from Twilight, the movie where we were first introduced to the brilliance that is Rob as Edward Cullen. Now being a Rob fan I had no prior knowledge of Edward Cullen, didn’t even know this character existed nor the Twilight books so read them as soon as Rob was cast so I was ready for the movie. I fell in love with Rob’s Edward, he played this complex character so brilliantly, put so much thought, detail & effort into portraying him & as he always does, delivered an outstanding performance. I have said it a million times before & I will say it again, no one – yes NO ONE could have ever played this character as wonderfully as Rob. Anyone that ever doubted him – well you all know what I think of you!! OK now onto the scene, there are so many Rob moments that I love in this scene. He plays the nervousness/awkwardness of Edward showing Bella his room for the first time brilliantly, you can tell how much of a big deal this is for him. Edward has been so closed off for so many years & now he is beginning to let someone into his life. It’s not only a boy opening his life up to a girl, but a vampire bringing a human that he loves but wants to kill at the same time, into his world. Rob conveys every single one of these emotions that Edward is experiencing perfectly. I also have to mention how much I love the part of this scene with Edward & Bella sitting in the tree, such a lovely moment between the two with the lullaby playing in the background which then of course leads to us seeing Rob himself play it on the piano *sigh* Another reason I love this scene so much – Rob playing the piano. I cannot tell you how much I LOVE seeing him play – just so beautiful. Will leave my commentary there now & let you all enjoy – I could go on forever when Rob is concerned, a fact that you are all very aware of by now haha!

“NO ONE could have ever played this character as wonderfully as Rob.” ITA!!!!
you are right, Michelle, his expressions, the way he moves…. all the scene in Edward’s house is brilliant… when he said he never sleeps, when he talks about the music… every little piece is wonderful…
and he playing the piano…mmmhhh I hope to see him playing in other movie…
Rob is simply the best!!!!!

YES! This is what I’m talking about @ 00:48, 01:12, 01:35 – those awkward moments of exposure, longing to be understood and loved – incredible. Up in the tree with the music, the lullaby has an bittersweet feel (as an aside, I thought Carter Burwell’s score was perfect). Anyway, I’m rambling. Thanks, Michelle, the vid was lovely. ♥

“No bed?”……yes I was one of those lame people who laughed out loud in the cinema when I heard this line….
“It’s Debussy”….ahh love the French accent….
“You really shouldn’t have said that”….
that sexy grin/dimple is so incredibly sexy!!!
Ahhh….the memories…..thanks Michelle! 🙂
Cindy

‘Debussy’ That one word and that little cringe as he says it, makes my heart flutter every time I hear it from Rob’s lips.

And let’s not forget “It does in my world” is Rob’s line – see I think they should have just dumped Rosenberg right there and then and had Rob write the script.
Rob if you aren’t involved with “Confessions of A Sinner’ can your next role please have you as a lounge singer/piano player – pretty please.
Vicky
Briliant thanks for sharing

Absolutely loved your choice Michelle. Everytime I see his awkwardness in this scene I just fall in love with him all over again. Rob was the most perfect choice as Edward and I agree Maria, the best lines from the movie were ones that Rob improvised. Such a talentI adore watching him play the piano, so, so beautiful. Thanks Michelle.
Michelle
“It Does In My World” & ‘Where Else Am I Gonna Go” – I always loved those lines & it all made perfect sense when we found out they came from Rob. Indeed Maria, if only they’d let him write the scripts. Imagine how much better they would have been.
Vertigo
Sing us a song you’re the piano man … sing us a song tonight. Well we’re all in the mood for a melody … and you’ve got us feeling alright. La dee da la dedaahh …
Vertigo
p.s. I love your scene choice Michelle. The feel of this movie makes me want to curl up with a blankie.
Cindy
LOL @ Vertigo too funny girl too funny!!! but how fab would it be to have Rob as Maria said to do a role that involved more of that fantastic musical talent of his. I have always been a sucker had a weakness for a boy with a guitar and a drink in his hand. 😉
Maria
OMG @Vertigo – that’s exactly what I was thinking – hahaha – Rob playing Billy Joel in a bio pic – although I mean – not like he LOOKS anything like Billy Joel, but I wish that’s how Billy Joel looked – hahahaha – I can overlook the non-resemblance – really I can.

I can only repeat what you all said before… Robert is great, genuine artist. He gave Edward so much life… like he is in the room with us. Music…he plays the piano so beautiful.
