New Role For Rob? Oh God Please Let This Be True
Rob don’t give me that look. I know we normally don’t like to post information unless we think there is a ring of truth to it, but I have been hearing this rumour of late and so when Variety.com reports the following I feel obliged to share with your fans:
“Sean Penn and Robert Pattinson are circling Fox 2000’s “Water for Elephants,” with Reese Witherspoon already attached to star and Francis Lawrence attached to direct.
Film is based on the best-selling historical tome of the same name by Sara Gruen. Scribe Richard LaGravenese will adapt for the bigscreen.
Gil Netter, Erwin Stoff and Andrew Tennenbaum are producing. Tennenbaum optioned the novel in 2007 (Daily Variety, July 8, 2007).
Studio wouldn’t confirm details of the project.
Set during the Great Depression, Gruen’s book tells the story of a Cornell Unviersity veterinary student who leaves his studies after his parents are killed, and joins up with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, working as a vet for the circus.”
I just think it’s been so long since we heard of Rob signing on for anything I really want this to be true.  I have heard this book is amazing, so I better add it to my “must reads”.  The fact that Rob may star in a film with Sean Penn is just beyond words for me – for me Sean Penn is phenomenal.Â
The Deadbolt News also provides this brief plot:
“The Water for Elephants storyline follows a college veterinary student during the great depression, who leaves school after his parents die to join up with a traveling circus to act as their vet. The young vet witnesses the cruelty of circus life first hand while falling for the wife of an abusive animal trainer.
Judging by the brief overview of Water for Elephants, it would appear Robert Pattinson would be best to play the vet, Sean Penn as the abusive animal trainer, and Reese Witherspoon as the wife that Pattinson falls in love with, if the Pattinson, Penn, and Witherspoon Water for Elephants triangle comes together.”
If you want to read full article please click on link. I thought I would also share this review from Publishers Weekly on Amazon.com:
“With its spotlight on elephants, Gruen’s romantic page-turner hinges on the human-animal bonds that drove her debut and its sequel (Riding Lessons and Flying Changes)—but without the mass appeal that horses hold. The novel, told in flashback by nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski, recounts the wild and wonderful period he spent with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, a traveling circus he joined during the Great Depression. When 23-year-old Jankowski learns that his parents have been killed in a car crash, leaving him penniless, he drops out of Cornell veterinary school and parlays his expertise with animals into a job with the circus, where he cares for a menagerie of exotic creatures[…] He also falls in love with Marlena, one of the show’s star performers—a romance complicated by Marlena’s husband, the unbalanced, sadistic circus boss who beats both his wife and the animals Jankowski cares for. Despite her often clichéd prose and the predictability of the story’s ending, Gruen skillfully humanizes the midgets, drunks, rubes and freaks who populate her book.”
Okay does anyone else think it’s funny that Rob ends up falling in love with Reese who played his mother in Vanity Fair? Very Oedipus. That is all – I’m just too excited – can you tell. Please please let this come to fruition.

Michelle
Oh yes, please please please let this be true. Have been hearing mentions of Rob & Water For Elephants of late & hoping so much that the rumours are true. This news is just so exciting, trying not to get my hopes up just in case but with news of Rob signing onto a new movie & also possibly alongside Sean Penn – it’s just impossible not to get excited. The book sounds absolutely amazing *prays to the gods that this is true* I thought the same about Reese Maria lol.

oh and yes, totally Oedipal thing with Reese although they did delete Rob’s scene in VF and didn’t even bother to credit him…too rude!
Michelle
@tessANZ – Was so very unfair how Rob’s scene was cut from VF. Was such a great scene & he was so wonderful in it. Have watched it many times.
In regards to UC, crossing my fingers we hear some news on the film soon but at this stage we haven’t heard anything new. As soon as we do though, we will of course let everyone know 😀
Cindy

Not only is Sean Penn an extremely talented legend beyond words who continues to produce jaw dropping performances time and time again and directed one of my all time favourite movies – He is an absolute MASTER. I cannot contain the butterflies taking me over at the mere thought of such a possibility.
Rob and Sean working together! *passes out*
*squeezes eyes shut real tight, gets on knees and prays to the Gods too*
Maria
Oh I know @Vertigo – I know. Sean Penn will bring out the most superb performance from Rob – I too almost passed out when I read it this morning, hence why I had to post. Last time Variety posted an article about something Rob was considering – it turned out to be Memoirs. Oh please God, please – can we just have Rob in this movie with Sean and I too *squeeze eyes shut real tight, gets on knees and prays”
vertigo
Oh God I can hear your excitement Maria and it’s adding to my building hysteria. I agree also, imagine Rob’s development while working with Sean, it would be an awesome move for sure.
*goes back to praying*
Michelle
Cannot put into words how excited I am at the possibility of this eventuating. Sean Penn is just absolutely amazing. His portrayal of Harvey Milk in ‘Milk’ was just BRILLIANT. Would have to be my most fave role of his to date. The thought of him & Rob together makes me nearly pass out too. Please please be true, please. *Resumes praying to the gods alongside Maria & Vertigo*

having seen many times VF thought that sth was missing from the movie…maybe the end?????wouldn’t be more perfect end than rob…reese’s decision spoiled the whole film.he was amzing in the deleted scene…u know reese gets on my nerves.SHE asked them to cut rob cause as she said (!!!!) ‘he was too young to be her son and he was too beautiful to play her son’…he was beautiful indeed but don’t get why they deleted the scene.
i m not a huge fan of sean penn but he is a skillful actor.expect much from the movie…fingers crossed…really happy.
