 rob-comicon-2008

Well I can’t.  By this I’m referrring to making Rob appear at this year’s ComiCon.  Someone seriously didn’t pay attention to what happened at last year’s event.  Are they insane to want to put him through this again – have the last 2 months in New York not been bad enough?  Clearly ComiCon has a huge security budget to ensure that noone can get near him (*cough* *cough*).  Sorry I’m a little passionate about the fact that they pimp him out for these events.  Quite frankly I haven’t posted any other ComiCon news because personally, until I actually see him there, I won’t believe it (I remember they said the same thing about Rob attending the Nickelodeon Awards and suggested his appearance at the Hot Topic midnight release of Twlight DVD – both didn’t happen).   Anway what has got me going is Variety.com’s article by Thompson on Hollywood (click on link if you want to read full article):

“Thursday’s crazy madness will be the Twilight: New Moon panel. Heartthrob Rob Pattinson will appear (reminder: must pack earplugs) with co-stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner and director Chris Weitz, but lovelorn vampire Edward Cullen isn’t the main character in the movie, so Pattinson won’t participate in any backstage interviews. Summit is screening Twilight for the fans with cast members on hand. Summit is scheduled to film the third installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse, from August 17 through October 31 in Vancouver with David Slade (30 Days of Night) directing Melissa Rosenberg’s screenplay.”

I think the backstage interviews are the least of his worries.  And what do you mean “Edward Cullen isn’t the main character in New Moon”?  I’m in shock.  I was really under the misapprehension that all Twilight books are written with Edward Cullen as the main character – I better go back and reread them.  Sorry the sarcasm kicks in because these people actually try to pass themselves off as journos.  Okay so here is my argument – if Rob isn’t one of the main characters in New Moon and doesn’t need to do any “backstage interviews” – then he can be easily replaced by one of the other secondary characters like Ashley, Klutz or hey – even Billy Burke – he’s going  – so Rob doesn’t need to go – right.  Problem solved.  Just looking out for you Rob because I remember the backstage photo from last year and you DON”T need to go through that again.

Thanks for posting this Maria, as you know I agree with you on this completely. I cannot believe they are even thinking of sending Rob to Comic Con after the absolute madness that happened there last year. I just do not understand. I am really really hoping that is another case like the Nick Awards. Do not want Rob to be put through all that again. That photo from backstage that you mentioned still makes me feel so upset everytime I look at it. Never ever want to see Rob look so completely freaked out like that ever ever again. He just does not deserve that one tiny bit.

I agree. If it’s one way of getting him to can the whole publicity thing in general, it’s to make him do Comicon. Here’s praying it will go better than last year if they do make him do it.

I feel bad for asking, but can someone give me a link to this backstage photo from last year? I don’t think I’ve seen it…

Liz – I doubt there is a link to this photo. I saw it last year because someone else showed it to me. Actually, this is the exact type of photo we never post on the site so we would appreciate that if anyone does have it they don’t provide any form of link or email (just so you all know comments with email addresses automatically go into spam – sorry but that’s the way the site is set up to stop dodgy sites trying to link us because believe me it happens). Thanks

Maria, you’ve pretty much summed up my feelings as well and I hope you‘re right, that in the end he doesn‘t show. As for the “Not a main character“ malarki, I could clobber them for making statements when they obviously haven’t read the books. One of the beauties of Stephanie’s story telling was that even though Edward was physically absent through (middle section only) New Moon, his presence remained dominant through-out and from what I understood, all events that occurred were very much related to how they effect his character and how he effected the events. He is the catalyst for the story, he is the MAIN event and he’s all I could think about while reading the book. And I’m pretty sure we have read again and again that we will be getting plenty of Eddie in New Moon and even those without 20/20 vision can see he‘s prominent on the promo poster.
That aside, is it really worth it to put Rob through this again only to boost attendance/sales? Considering all the hoo haa he’s recently gone through and is about to go through again up in Canada? NO. The powers that be should be ashamed of themselves and sometimes I wonder how they manage to sleep at night.
Poor Rob – I wish you some R&R before “Eclipse” gets going.

Vertigo – where have you been??????? I agree wholeheartedly about how ridiculous the comment of Edward not being a main character. He may not be physically there for part of the book, but everything Bella does is about him. Hey – even I was thinking about him the whole time I was reading about bloody Jacob – seriously all I could think about is – they better not have bloody written him out – lol.

Edward not the main charater! what rock have these people been living under? Agree with both of your comments maria and Vertigo. You think of him all the way through, and I thought the same thing maria (writing edward out) when i read the books the first time, but i cheated and looked for his name in the back then went through and read the rest of the story. lol.

Not the main character! they need to open their eyes and read the books!

I too hope Rob doesnt go, i think i have seen those photos and i agree, shouldnt have to do that again. they are nuts!

Agree send someone else. They are only cashing in.

FINALLY relieved that others have also read the true version of NM. As relieved as I was when there was confirmation they didn’t write Eddie out. lol

    Maria – Jacob who? lol

All I kept thinking about after Edward left in NM is when (and If) he was coming back. I hope Rob doesn’t go to ComiCon either but I think he will be there if Summit wants him to – the only good thing will be that he will upstage Taylor Lauthner again

Well said Maria, feels like he is not being managed as well as he could be and being treated like an object and not a person 🙁

As for not the main character, that is insane! I did exactly the same as you tlr the first time I read new moon the first time! Had to skip ahead to make sure he was still in it otherwise I wasn’t interested in continuing.

Okay I’m convinced now that not everyone reads my comments entirely. LOL – I never said Edward was THE main character but “a main character”. I don’t want Twihards coming down on me about Edward stealing Bella’s thunder. Eddie is “important” to the series, but not THE main character.
