HOW TO BE is featured on the March issue of an Indonesian magazine called “Trailer”. Thanks to Shanna, we have a translation of the article here:

Meet the real Robert Pattinson. Forget about the cool vampire and his romance story, Robert Pattinson is totally geeky and loveless in How to Be!
Before his name rocketed through the stars thanks to the romantic vampire movie, Twilight, this actor who played Edward Cullen had acted in an independent movie created by Oliver Irving. How to Be was Oliver Irving’s first full-length feature film and was produced by Justin Kelly. Pattinson was given this role because he was considered very suitable to Art, the character he played in the movie, whom Pattinson himself admitted to sharing certain similar characteristics with.

This comedy tells the story of a young aspiring musician and songwriter who suffers from an identity crisis and lack of affection from the people around him. Art’s parents are always busy with their own affairs and didn’t see him as a ‘normal’ child. He was also cut off from the love and attention he expected from his girlfriend when she ended their relationship. As if that’s not enough, he was then told to quit from the voluntary work he was doing. His one and only best friend, Ronny who desperately wants to form a band with Art, is not all that helpful either because he’s too absorbed with his own issues. Nikki, a friend of Ronny’s who was re-introduced to Art, took him out to do various ‘fun’ activities… to no avail.

One day, Art found a self-help book written by Dr. Levi Ellington, and hoped that the book could solve all of his problems. When he found that his problems were not solved yet, he invited the author, nicknamed Dr. E, to come and guide him in his daily life. A lot of exercises were given by Dr. E to improve Art’s relationship with his parents and his ex. But all of those things only made his life worse and brought him down to the lowest point of his life.

Art’s story is a common phenomenon that occurs among the youth of today, losing their identity and lacking care and attention from their environment. Pattinson successfully carried out the portrayal of the frustrated youth that Art represented, while still maintaining the comedic aspect of his performance. How to Be is an evidence to Pattinson’s skill. It’s time for Twilight maniacs to see another side of this promising young actor.

I really wish to see it in Turkey. I always thought Robert had a great potential and could do great works with the right choice after watching him as Cedric in HP. Even though Robert played Edward great, I think How to be and Little Ashes will be the real eye opener for his talents.
