Phooey! Damn you Captain Jack Sparrow … even though I was at the cinema on Saturday I completely forgot this film had it’s opening weekend. In any event, WFE is still going strong and according to UrbanCine is sitting at no. 2 with a total of $6,423,466.
and I know yesterday I said that WFE has grossed $98 M worldwide, but according to Box Office Mojo it’s only done $$97,856,620. I’m inclined to think that’s not right and they haven’t updated their foreign totals (Australia is still only showing as $3,763,025), but in any event it would be impossible for WFE not to break the $100 M barrier this week.
Chris Brunton is clearly a man who knows talent when he sees it. He has written a review of Water For Elephants in the Townsville Bulletin & given it 4 out of 5 stars. Here are a few of my favourite pieces:
“Twilight’s Robert Pattinson is the film’s biggest surprise.
“His quiet, understated performance outclasses the two more seasoned actors, proving beyond a doubt, he is leading man material, (Michelle: Very glad to see you now realise this Chris!) even if the real chemistry here isn’t with Witherspoon but with his other leading lady, the gorgeous Tai, Rosie the elephant.
There is genuine affection in Pattinson’s eyes when they’re together & their relationship tugs at your heart” (Michelle: It sure does. I LOVE their scenes together)
“Water For Elephants is an enchanting, old-fahioned drama, even if the romance never quite ignites. Pattinson’s involvement guarantees to please the ladies, but its glimpse into an intriguing world that no longer exists will engage even the most cynical bloke”
“As the end credits rolled, I was grateful for the few minutes of darkness so I could wipe my eyes & swallow the lump in my throat” (Michelle: You & me both Chris)
What wonderful wonderful words & coming from a man. This beautiful film has opened up SO many people’s eyes to Rob & also a whole new audience. I love love love that. It makes me so happy to see that they are finally giving him the praise that he so truly deserves. It is about time they caught up & acknowledged the brilliance that is Rob. There are so many people who are eating their words – oh so many. Chris is not too kind to Reese & Christoph here & I do think he is very harsh in his comments about them, but overall, this is a great review. You can read in full at the bottom of the post. I have included it here as the format at the source is a little tricky to read. You can view at the source though if you wish, just click on the link at the top of the post & jump to page 21.
Thank you so much to Erika for letting us know about this.
