Okay and here come the articles who I might like to term as “fence sitters” – you know if WFE is a huge success then they will say – oh yeah I predicted that, but then if it’s not – they will claim that too.  According to Kim Palacios of Hollywood News:

“I know what you’re thinking: Robert Pattinson is already a huge star.  But, could “Water for Elephants” make him even bigger?  Opinions are split on whether “The Twilight Saga” was just the beginning for Pattinson, or whether playing Edward Cullen was the beginning of the end.

According to Pattinson’s fans (Maria:  That would be us), the star’s acting talents surpass what can been shown through his portrayal of Edward Cullen in the “Twilight Saga” movies.  The same fans believe his arrival as one of the most respected actors in Hollywood is only a matter of time.

Yet another group who enjoyed Pattinson in the “Twilight Saga” films, is more cautious, if even optimistic. “Remember Me” did not do as well as anticipated in the box office, despite Pattinson’s timely popularity. Such lackluster numbers could jeopardize Pattinson’s career if such performance becomes a trend. Add in the inevitable typecasting that will cause Pattinson to be passed over for certain roles, and the star could fail to achieve longevity.

Yet, “Water for Elephants” could save the day for Pattinson by exposing his talents to a much wider demographic. The Sarah Gruen novel continues to be a bestseller, and the audience is far more mature. Add in the fact that Oscar Winners Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon may be greater draws than Pattinson in getting viewers interested in the movie, and “Water for Elephants” could be the only kind of film apt to give Pattinson the cred he deserves.”

Okay so this isn’t really a bad rap for Rob, but let me point out a few problems for me with this article.

1.  “Yet another group”.  Um what group is that Kim?  Are you talking about film critics?  Twihards? People you polled on the street who happened to NOT see Remember Me?  I’m just a little confused.  I really hate those kind of sweeping statements – I mean how am I supposed to believe that when there’s no evidence of who these people are?  You could be talking about the people you share office space with for all I know.  Also, whilst your explaining to me who this “other group” is can you also explain how you can be “cautious” and “optimistic” at the same time.

2. Remember Me didn’t do as well as WHO anticipated?  I know for a fact that the people involved were really happy with how RM faired.  Oh hang on I will back up my “sweeping” statement and be specific – Nick Osborne – the producer.  I don’t know who these people are that claim it didn’t do well – budget was USD16 million – according to The Numbers it made  USD56.5 million worldwide and sold over USD11.5 million in DVD sales – that doesn’t seem too much of a failure to me?  Oh but that’s right I fall into the category of “Pattinson’s fans” *facepalms* – of course I already expect Rob’s success.

3. “Inevitable typecasting“?  Oh yes Kim – of course what was I thinking – Georges DuRoy and Eric Packer are SOOOOOO Edward Cullen or Jacob Jankowski.   Rob’s portrayal of Eric Packer could easily be confused with Tyler Hawkins – yes yes – so much typecasting for Rob.

4. “the audience is far more mature”. I’m not sure whether I should be offended by this comment.  No wait I am because according to Kim – Bel-Ami and Cosmopolis clearly are not for mature audiences and hence only WFE will give Rob any credibility.

You know the problem with this article … it’s doing my head in because every time I go and reread it I find something else that proves not much research has been done.   Kim just so you know, Rob doesn’t need to be a huge Hollywood Megastar to be a respected actor in Hollywood.  I’m sure Steve Buscemi is respected and yet – there’s no Times Square Billboard with him on it – is there?  I guess I better go and do some research …

You tell em! Couldn’t have said it better myself. Nicely done.

I wish the media would stop typecasting his fans. I am not a twihard or on a team, I am simply a person who acknowledges the tremendous talent of an actor, a person NOT a character.

I know Sare – I shudder whenever I see the word “Team” and are baffled when people refer to RPAU as a Twilight site … that still amazes me.

Well said Sare. After seeing all his movies (especially “Little Ashes”) Twilight saga is actually my least favorite of all his movies. People really need to see his other movies so they can once and for all see how truly talented this man really is. God he’s so much more then Edward. Wake up people!!!

Let her have it Maria!! These people really do my head in!!!

Ladies we could try and talk sense to these people till we are blue in the face, but alas it will do us no good.So we “pattinson fans” will let Robs incredible talent speak for itself. And as you said Sare I am neither a Twi or a Team and god help anyone who calls me either!!!

How dare she even speak his name!

It still baffles me Maria, how every time you bring out those Remember Me numbers these people fail to understand them.

Oh and exactly what Sare said. I don’t enjoy being labelled as a group, group efforts are fine but a group mentality? How many groups are there? *confused*

At least she got one thing straight. Rob’s talent and hard work will shine above all.

  • Carmel

    Well put Maria
How do these people get employed? Kim and many like her clearly do no research at all. This just looks like a reworking of a Twi story in some gossip mag. What a cop out by not declaring her own view on Rob’s talent.

And some people think RPAU is a twilight site!?? Cant they read? “Shakes head at stupid people”

I agree 100% with all of you ladies. It still annoys me very much when critics say Remember Me did not do well at the Box Office. Look at the numbers people!!! They tell a different story entirely…and if I am not mistaken RM was the No.1 downloaded movie on iTunes within a matter of hours of being released.

But as Cindy said, what we say does not make a difference. These critics just don’t do their research. I am sure that Rob’s talent will shine through in the end because I am a firm believer that talent always prevails. In some cases it takes a little bit longer that’s all.

Can’t wait until Rob loses the Twi references, seriously they make me yawn….

will say Maria and i want to say i,m a Twihard but i,m with him all the way that what fans should do ,i heard that day that Christoph Waltz said this movie will give him (he mean Rob) an Oscars so its good thing for him i Proud to say i,m one of RPAU girls
RM is his big movie its not Twilight and that what make me love and care for him some time i need to show all the world who is Rob and what can he do mark my words he will be something and People like Kim will see and say i was mistake about him 🙁

I hate that he almost gets Bieber-fied in the media.

Once WfE comes out itll be a different story. And again for Cosmopolis.

And on top of the rubbish about typecasting his acting, its another reason I hold out very little hope for an album release anytime soon.
I am smitten with rob becasue of his beautiful voice. My husband commented when we watched twilight on what a great voice “that guy” had and we were both blown away when we found it was Rob.
I have been waiting (and hoping) ever since for news on a cd of HIS type of music – articles like that rubbish just dash my hopes (although that VF pic with the blues muso’s did restore it a little).
We’ll just have to send Kim an extra large serve of that humblepie we’ve been talking about once WFE comes out…

Hi @liz I wouldn’t hold out for an album from Rob for some time – he’s repeatedly said since about early 2009 that he doesn’t feel comfortable with releasing one so that people don’t think he’s cashing in.

Rob doesn’t even do open mic anymore because people kept posting it on YouTube. I know that SOFAR are yet to release his entire performance from Jan last year because Rob hasn’t given them permission to do so. I respect SOFAR so much more for that.
