Where have all the years gone.  First let us start off by thanking Jules for her amazing artwork that she does for us here at RPAU.  Thank you isn’t enough Jules because I know how much time and effort must be involved, but I’m sure all will agree that the end result is always beyond words.  I’d also like to thank Michelle without whom RPAU wouldn’t still be here and also Vertigo, Suze and Jules for putting up with my constant barrage of emails and what not and doing what they do here over the years. Sometimes I’m sure they laugh when they see them and sometimes I’m sure they just hit “delete” or they should lol.  Anyway, this started out as a little bit of fun, helping to promote Rob in Australia.  Michelle has been here from day 1, Vertigo has been commenting since then too, I happened along thanks to the How To Be premiere when Cilla, the original site owner, asked me to help out in about February 2009 and well – for the past 7 years Rob has kept us busy busy busy.  I thought today would be a good time to thank you all for being here and supporting Rob and reflect on what has been achieved thus far.

A few of you may recall that Robert Pattinson Australia originally started as a livejournal on 4 November 2008, it didn’t morph into a website until 26 January 2009.  Michelle and I took over the site in about May 2009 and decided that it would focus solely on Rob’s career.  It’s been an amazing experience – a decision that we haven’t regretted, a lot of hard work and equally a lot of fun.  We’ve had our ups and downs, but at the end of the day, this is a labour of love.  We’re here to promote Rob any way we can and to ensure that Rob’s fans are kept up to date with all his career news.  So in the words of Rob on stage at the State Theatre in 2011 “let’s ava look atchya”:

2008/2009

Bringing “How To Be” to fans for the only cinema screening in Australia on 28 March 2009. This was a monumental effort from RPAU’s original owner Cilla and the reason I became involved with RPAU.  It’s also how I met Michelle and Vertigo.  We had a great amount of help from Justin Kelly (Producer of HTB) and without him, it probably would not have been possible. I kept in contact with him over the years and last I heard he was doing something completely different to producing. I remember the cast (without Rob who was filming New Moon) did a personal intro for the screening – it’s a shame that was never uploaded to the site.

Also during that year, Alisah Arnah reached out to us as she wanted to set the record straight about her opinion of Rob that was misinterpreted from an interview given by Oliver Irving.

How is it October already? How. We started the week off with those gorgeous UHQ|HQ pics from Jeff Reidel, Collectormania, GMEX and Empire Awards.  Shame I couldn’t crop the black and whites because although they were huge they quality was most definitely not UHQ.  I am however, ecstatic that this pic was UHQ because it’s one of my ultimate faves. Barefoot Rob does things to me. Oops I said that out loud didn’t I. LIFE: I knew we could count on Govinda’s in Sydney to screen this movie. They always play Rob’s films. Brilliant. A few more release dates have surfaced. Malaysia will get the film on 3 December 2015.  Spain seems to have moved their release forward by a week so that it’s now 20 not 27 November 2015. That’s good though. Japan is gearing up for their “Life” premiere during the Tokyo Film Festival. Not only have they posted their subtitled trailer, but they’ve now confirmed that the premiere with Anton in attendance will be 24 October 2015. Turkey is also screening the film during Filmekimi which translates I believe to Film October.  Oh and Guernsey is also making sure Rob’s fans get to see the film when they screen it from 24 November 2015. We were treated to that new interview from Berlinale by Kinowert. Some great insight into Rob’s mind during that one. We’ve updated the Life reviews because there are still great things being said about Rob’s performance. I love that the good far outweigh the bad. For Rob fans in the Netherlands, you have a chance to win a double pass to see “Life”when it opens on 8 October 2015 thanks to Movienewz. I also tweeted where Switzerland and Germany can see the film. Indonesia looks like they’re getting ready to unleash the film with Feat Pictures tweeting that BTS footage we’ve all seen. Feat Pics did tells us a few weeks ago that they would unleash in October. QUEEN OF THE DESERT: Italy isn’t supposed to get any screenings in 2015, but the Bozen Film Club is putting on three. Not sure how easy it is to get there but I’ve known people to fly interstate or catch a train to Paris from London to see a film. The premiere for Australia is happening during the British Film Festival which is being held by Palace Cinemas, another great supporter of indie films. We already knew about Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Byron, but now Adelaide and Perth get their dates. I expected Luna Palace (Perth) would eventually come to the party. Looks like the British Film Festival is where most of us will see Queen of the Desert.  Still no general Aussie theatrical release yet, but it’s coming I believe, but it won’t be in October as far as I can tell. I see that Russia is also gearing up for their release later this month by doing a book tie in.  RANDOM THINGS I TWEETED: ScreenDaily in its lead up to unleashing it’s Stars of Tomorrow tweeted one of my fave photos – Rob from 2005. Where the hell have the past 10 years gone. How great is David Gilligan’s story about taking that promo shot for How To Be. I love hearing the intricate details of how some photos take place – fitting really when you think about “Life” and how infamous those photos became.  I tweeted quite a few interviews from Anton Corbijn – Candid Magazine, VN and Luke Davies with The Guardian  and this gem from David Cronenberg.  IN OTHER NEWS:  Nick Osborne’s “Release” is finally available in paperback for those, like me, who are still old school when it comes to books.  Jules reminded us that Mr October is here and I have NO WORDS about her spectacular “Life” edit.  Cassian Elwes is raising money to help 2 female directors go to Sundance and tweeted about having Werner Herzog sign 5 pics of Rob and Nicole to auction off.  There’s was still some left last time I looked for those interested. And fittingly BFI (UK) was promoting The Rover which can be rented from them here  when they reminded us “Tarantino called David Michôd “the most uncompromising director of his generation”.  It’s still my opinion that David M got the best performance out of Rob, probably because as Rob has said in many interviews, the remoteness of the filming location allowed him to concentrate fully on his performance. Unfortunately it seems to me that that isn’t going to happen with Lost City of Z.  I’m trying to avoid the sneaky shots, so I’m signing off until next week and immersing myself in finishing The Martian – which incidentally is a surprisingly fantastic read (thanks Jules!).  Well if Rob’s going to write sci-fi I need to condition myself to start reading it.  See you next Sunday.

What started off as a quiet week finished off with a bang for me and Vertigo at least.  Some of you may have seen me tweet on Thursday that both Vertigo and I were at a preview screening for “LIFE”.  It’s always strange seeing Rob on screen.  I spend so much of my time looking at him that it feels like I’m watching an old friend, but then reality kicks in and I remember he doesn’t really know me from a bar of soap lol.  So for those interested I posted a collaborative review from myself and Vertigo.  If you don’t want spoilers, don’t read.  Although I didn’t put too many in as I didn’t want to take away from the initial viewing.  Just know Rob as Dennis Stock is something to see.  So whilst I’m talking LIFE, I’ll continue on with it.   LIFE:  I loved listening to Anton talk about why he chose to direct the film and the reasons he decided against filming in black and white.   I’ve updated the Aussie cinemas screenings post – Hoyts have now come to the party and so Western Australia now has screenings.  I’m still holding out hope for you Michelle that Tassie gets a screening.  Barbara tells me that it will be screened in Coffs Harbour, although I couldn’t find where, but the Roseville Cinema is now also screening here in NSW.  I’m also expecting Transmission might post a list of theatres screening the film closer to the release date. They often do it for their films.  Sitges Film Festival posted on their facebook about the film being included this year, which we knew, but we’re still waiting for a date to be confirmed.  LOST CITY OF Z:  Is most definitely filming and new cast mates for Rob are being added.   I tweeted about a few more on Saturday.  I have to admit, this was probably the one film of Rob’s I almost expected would never get off the ground, so I am pleasantly surprised it’s full steam ahead.  Lucky Tom Holland.  QUEEN OF THE DESERT: Although Germany is behind having preview screenings and screenings of the film, looks like Brazil has opted to go straight to VOD with Netflix debuting the film.  I fear this is the way to go with indie films which is sad because I’m going to miss the cinema experience if Australia follows the trend. By the way I asked Transmission on Thursday night what was happening with QotD, they are still waiting to lock in a date, but they expect it will be this year.  Will keep you posted.  Oh and for those interested, Nicole Kidman is appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on 27 August (that will be the following day for us I think) so it might be good to tune in since she may speak about this film.  If she does, I’ll let you know hopefully.  THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER:  That new still is quite chilling isn’t it.  Such an angelic looking child, but we know!  I also tweeted a beautiful still of Berenice that I came across on an Italian site.  I just wasn’t sure if we could post it so I didn’t take chances. It looks like Italy is in full promo mode for #Venezia72 since CIAK posted an article about Rob and the film.  I also came across The Max Theatre in Iowa listing the film as “coming soon”.  I think they are just eager beavers lol.  In other news, Film1 (Netherlands) is screening both Maps to the Stars and The Rover over the next few months.  Nick Osborne’s last book in the trilogy “Release” is now available for download for kindle at Amazon. I’ve updated the links in the post below.  For those wanting the actual paperback, this should be released in a few weeks.  I’ll let you know when it happens.  And ending of this weekly superbly with those 4 new photos of Rob in Cannes at LeGrand Journal. Holy mama that man is hot.  Until next week … when I hope Cinedigm really DOES tell us when the US release for LIFE is.

HOLY FREAKIN MOLY.  We didn’t get one but two trailers (well three if you count the Aussie one that doesn’t have the French subtitles) for Life and if that wasn’t exciting enough, Lost City of Z is filming, Good Times is now in pre production and The Trap is back on Rob’s IMDb page.  HAPPY FREAKIN DAYS.  It’s all happening Rob film wise so let’s get on with it.  LIFE:  The “Life” promo is starting to gather steam.  ARP has updated its header, Transmission added the trailer in its lead up to release in less than a month.  Vertigo Films seems to be keeping us in the dark about the Spanish release date.  They posted on their Facebook that “LIFE” will be released at the end of 2015.  Yet Fotogramas claims it’s being released on 16 October and Vertigo’s site (the distributor, not our very own) also has an October release date, but maybe that’s for the Sitges Film Festival that runs from 9 to 18 October 2015.  Tricky tricky.  I put together the reviews for Trailer Buzz, there’s some really great things said about Rob in a few and some really ignorant comments that make me think they don’t even bother to watch any of his films with an unbiased opinion.  Oh well their loss not mine.  I also updated the International Review post as a few more came through. @enamoramiento1 offered to translate the critic.de review from Germany because she thought it was so on point.  I’m glad she did, it’s such a great review of the film as a whole and Google translate really made it sound negative.  Grateful for her to do that for us as I know how much time it can take.  QUEEN OF THE DESERT:  Things are heating up for this film too.  I noticed that Chantier Films updated their Facebook and Twitter headers on Thursday.  Norway now has a distributor, although no release date as yet, but then again neither does the UK or Australia *sobs*.  THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER:  We found out the screening dates for The Childhood of a Leader at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.  The premiere is on 5 September and another screening the following day.  It appears Rob will be attending, but there seems to be a tussle since he was supposedly also rumoured to be attending the Life premiere in Paris at the Deauville American Film Festival on the same evening.  I did see that the artistic director of Venezia72 did confirm Rob’s attendance.  Looking forward to some red carpet Rob like the gems posted by Michelle from Berlinale.  We were certainly spoilt with some older photos being unleashed that’s for sure.  LOST CITY OF Z:  Have I told you how excited I am that Rob and Charlie are actually in a film together and it’s filming!  Main Title Pictures, the South Korean distributors, are just as excited which convinced us to post Jules’ wonderful banner she did for us.  You know how nervous and superstitious we are now lol.  Anyway, how amazing is that banner.  I love all the intricate details Jules puts into her work.  Stellar job as usual.  Speaking of which, go check out our Film page.  Thanks to Jules I updated Life and Queen of the Desert.  Jules also created this amazing “LIFE” gif which we tweeted today – in case you missed it. Lastly, I posted about the release date for Nick Osborne’s last instalment in his trilogy “Release”.  I know there are a few of you out there waiting for this.  It’s a great read and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.  Love Nick, he’s a true gem.  Can’t wait to see what next week brings … until then.

If I said I had a gut feeling that we would be getting new film news this week you would probably think I was just making it up, but I swear it’s like a sixth sense when it comes to Rob and his projects.  How great was it waking up on Friday to news that Rob would be starring in the Safdie brothers new film “Good Time”.  I know some assumed Rob was at the Heaven Knows What premiere as a friendly gesture to one of the producers of The Trap – Charles-Marie Anthonioz – who is also an executive producer on the Safdie Bros film.  Anyway whatever the reason Rob was there seems to have paid off for us.  And speaking of the Safdie Bros – for Melburnians – MIFF is doing the first Australian retrospective of the Safdie Bros films and Josh and Benny will be attending as special guests.  On 3 August 2015, they will be taking part of “Talking Pictures A Conversation with Josh and Benny“.  If only I lived in Melbourne … if only.   The thought is that “Good Time” will be shot once Rob completes Lost City of Z.  I noticed on 11 July 2015 that Sierra Affinity has LCoZ listed as in “pre production” on their website – so fingers crossed we hear of Rob disappearing off into the jungle soon.  Now onto other film news.  LIFE:  Variety came to the party and confirmed that the film will in fact be part of the Sitges Film Festival.  I updated the post if you’re wondering why it’s appearing in this week’s wrap up.  It’s also screening in July at the Freiburger Film Festival in Germany and Anton Corbijn will be attending the premiere in Belgium.   That’s going to be an interesting event for sure.  Always love hearing the directors take on working on the film. Then we were treated to some wonderful new stills of Rob as Dennis Stock and some BTS shots of Rob with Anton Corbijn.   I’m in love with the still of Rob sitting on the bed.  Also, the French distributor posted an alternate theatrical poster on their website and it interestingly now contains the logo for the Deauville American Film Festival.  It really makes me think that there may be a French premiere on 9 September 2015 at the Festival since it runs from 5 to 14 September 2015.  I guess we shall know by the end of this month. QUEEN OF THE DESERT:  Now has release dates in Austria and Egypt.  Sorry Carmel I will make sure I send you a text when it is in fact the actual “Australian” release date.  THE TRAP:  Still unsure of Rob’s involvement with this film, but nevertheless, Focus Features is definitely on board to distribute theatrically in the US.  Now it’s just a waiting game.  MAPS TO THE STARS:  Venezuela pushed its release date back to the end of July.  Ecuador, although I haven’t posted anything about it recently, still has the film listed in “coming soon” at Cineplex – don’t worry I check it regularly.  One of the things I have found checking overseas theatre and film websites is how many of Rob’s films don’t actually make it to cinemas overseas.  I feel really lucky that Australia seems to get on board, at least in some major capital cities, in screening all of Rob’s films.  Other bits and pieces, Michelle treated us to a montage of Mr Majestic.   Cannot believe that was 6 years ago.  The Japanese website for The Rover was expanded with a few more features.   I love the Japanese’s enthusiasm for promoting films.  They always seem to create a separate website for all of Rob’s films.  Can’t wait to see what next week unfolds – I predict a trailer for LIFE.  Just putting it out there.  And before I go, on a non Rob issue, I just finished reading the draft of Nick Osborne’s final book in the trilogy “Release”.  For those who have been patiently waiting for the end of this story, the wait is almost over – it should be released at the end of this month.  I’ll keep you posted.  Until then …
