Steven Weintraub, @colliderfrosty recently spoke exclusively with Jude Law & he had this to say about Queen Of The Desert:

It really is.  I also noticed on the always accurate IMDB that you are doing Dom Hemingway and Queen of the Desert.

Law: No, Queen of the Dessert, I don’t think is going to happen now, or I don’t think that I can be involved in it anymore.  I’m not sure what happened there, whether they can get it together I don’t know.  Dom Hemingway I have completed and I filmed that late last year in and around London and in the south of France.  That will come out this year.

Still keeping those fingers crossed re: this project!!

The plot thickens.

Variety has posted an article about what’s being included for sale at the European Film Market in the next few weeks and:

Voltage Pictures reps romantic thriller “A Girl and a Gun” with Anthony Mackie and Megan Fox; and Fred Schepisi’s romantic drama “Words and Pictures” with Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche. … The Exchange hits the Potsdamer Platz with Sundance buzz pic “The Spectacular Now,” starring Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley, which sold to upstart distrib A24 for the U.S. … Ealing Metro Intl. will be selling actioner “Last Man Out” starring Brosnan, while Hyde Park Intl. reps comedy “A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle” with Joel McHale and Robin Williams. Berlin will see a pair of queens up for sale: “Queen of the Desert” repped by Sierra/Affinity with helmer Werner Herzog attached, and Atom Egoyan’s “Queen of the Night,” being sold by Entertainment One Intl., starring Ryan Reynolds.” [my emphasis]

Is it just me reading between the lines that only Herzog has been referred to as attached in “Queen of the Desert” – I do that often – read between the lines that is.  And funny I tweeted about Kevin Durand’s involvement in Queen of the Night the other day.  Anyway, I also checked Sierra Affinity’s website and found this:

Can’t wait to see who pics this up (fingers crossed we get an Aussie distributor nonetheless).

So according to The Playlist, this is what Jude Law now has to say about QoTD:

“As for projects that may or may not be happening, Law confirmed Naomi Watts‘ statement that Werner Herzog‘s Gertrude Bell biopic “Queen of the Desert” is now on hold and he will likely be no longer be available for it when it returns. “I don’t think that’s happening. I don’t think I can do that anymore,” he admitted.”

Welcome to Hollywood people where things change on a dime.

Josh Horowitz spoke with Naomi Watts at Sundance so of course he had to ask her about Rob *we are so surprised* #sarcasm. Josh, you might want to stick to asking Naomi about the ACTUAL movie she’s there promoting – just saying.

As to Robert’s involvement: “I don’t know if he definitely is yet,” she said. Hmm interesting response. Rob himself has already confirmed his involvement & on more than one occasion.

Indiewire has included 2 of Rob’s upcoming films in their list of 50 Indie Films We Want to See in 2013.  I guess The Rover wasn’t included because it’s an Aussie production … their loss.

“Map to the Stars”

Director: David Cronenberg
Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Rachel Weisz, Robert Pattinson
Distributor: None as of yet.
Release Date: Very likely to premiere in Cannes or Venice or Toronto, with a deal and release date to follow.
Why Might It Be a Must See: Whatever you think of Robert Pattison becoming David Cronenberg’s newfound muse, their second collaboration in as many years looks mighty appealing. The long-delayed “Map to The Stars” also brings Cronenberg’s other righthand man Viggo Mortensen along for the ride (as well as Rachel Weisz), and is said to be a complex Hollywood satire…  It’s also the first film the Canadian director has actually shot in America. [Peter Knegt]”  [Maria:  Peter Knegt you are not alone there, not alone.  Although we saw that it’s possible Viggo might not be available – hopefully this will change and don’t think it will prem at Cannes this year since it was suppose to film in May, but I’m happy for it to be at TIFF].

And:

“Queen of the Desert”
Director: Werner Herzog
Cast: Naomi Watts, Robert Pattinson, Jude Law
Distributor: N/A
Release date: Nothing yet.
Why Might It Be a Must See: Just because he was recently seen onscreen as the villain in “Jack Reacher” doesn’t mean Herzog has sold out. Every since “Rescue Dawn,” the kooky Bavarian filmmaker has entered a compelling new stage with the narrative side of his filmmaking career, delivering bizarre, discursive dramas (can anyone really explain “My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?”) with the same loony poetry that often spills out of Herzog’s mouth (that iguana bit in “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” was something else). Herzog’s new movie looks like a consolidation of his life as an adventurous documentarian and oddball fiction work: The movie stars Watts as legendary explorer Gertrude Bell and Pattinson as “Lawrence of Arabia” author T.E. Lawrence. Herzog tends to bring out the maniacal side of his actors, which means this could be a thrill ride in more ways than one. [Eric Kohn]
