NextMovie is saying “Marion is out. Keira is in. “Cosmopolis.† The Improper is saying “But whether she has signed on has not been confirmed.”  IMDb hasn’t been updated, but that’s not surprising.  If you now go onto Alfama’s site Keira’s been removed.  It’s almost as complex as a Don DeLillo novel.  Maybe Alfama was a little premature in updating it’s site – it wouldn’t be the first time.  Alfama – in case you want to know – I’m available to start 23 May … just in case you need someone last minute.  If you want to read the articles click on hyperlinks.
Better hold onto your hats girls, it looks like Marion has been replaced with Keira Knightley. Â Oh lordy she’s starred with James McAvoy and now Rob. Â Keira I’m so freakin envious it’s not funny. Â Thanks to our affies LeRPattzClub for this info and the screencap.
Okay no offence Taytay – it’s Russ Fischer’s words not mine, although I’m sure some of you might remember my rants about this very subject.  In any event, I’ve gone on a Cosmopolis article frenzy today and so I’m going to finish off with Russ Fischer of /Films‘  take on Cosmopolis.  I have to say I like the fact that although he’s not gushing about Rob, there does somehow, to me at least, seem like some backhanded compliments there – so no rushing him with the torches girls:
“Let’s look at the different career paths of the two major male stars from Twilight. Taylor Lautner is doing what seems to be boilerplate action/tentpole stuff: Abduction and possibly Stretch bloody Armstrong. Robert Pattinson, meanwhile, is going a little more high-minded, co-starring with Cristoph Waltz in Water For Elephants and now taking over for Colin Farrell in David Cronenberg‘s adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel Cosmopolis. I know which actor I can respect more, without question. But what does this mean for the dedicated David Cronenberg fan?
I expect a lot of Cronenberg fans just exhaled a sad or exasperated sigh, for starters. I’ll admit that my own interest in Cosmopolis just took a dive. It’s a weird situation, where I can really respect Robert Pattinson for taking the gig, but him doing so really seems to ding the movie’s potential.
But what the hell; I’ve trusted Cronenberg for years and I’ll trust him again now. In the same way that I hope John Hillcoat can do a little technical rehab on Shia LeBeouf in The Wettest County in the World, I’m hoping that Cosmopolis will be a vessel to break Mr. Pattinson out of his Twilight mode. (And, to be fair, the Twilight films are hardly a venue in which to judge an actor — they’re so specific, and so dumb, that I think they could make even Daniel Day-Lewis look terrible.)
Pattinson will be onscreen a great deal in this film. Cosmopolis is about a whizkid financial guy — presumably a much more dynamic role than Twilight offers — and takes place almost entirely in a limo that is transporting him across the city during the course of a day. Other cast is attached (Marion Cotillard) or in talks (Paul Giamatti).  No confirmation on those names yet, or on additional cast members.
Meanwhile, how big of a Total Recall fan — or a paycheck fan — is Colin Farrell to choose Len Wiseman’s new Total Recall over working with David Cronenberg? I like Farrell a lot, and think he’s made some interesting and generally good choices in his career. But this one is a serious WTF situation.”
Hahaha I have to agree with the last paragraph – imagine choosing to do a remake rather than this film – oh then again if he hadn’t …
Thanks to Alfama Films – the film’s production company (owned by one of the film’s producers Paulo Branco), we can now tell you that shooting for Cosmopolis will commence on May 23 2011.  The film is also listed under productions/projects on their website & they have of course confirmed that Rob will be playing the role of Eric Packer.  Woo hooo – so brilliant to now have a start date.  As I’ve said many times before – the excitement of a new Rob role is like no other.  I’ve seriously been doing a happy dance all week.  Cannot wait to hear even more news.  Rob you are going to be AMAZING as Eric!  Thanks to our affie LeRPattzClub for the tip & thanks to Vertigo for the pic choice – it’s perfect!
I thought Rob already had megastardom since isn’t he the hottest property in Hollywood (or anywhere else for that matter) at the moment? Â Oh well I still like the fact that Brain James (no that’s not a typo) at MetroWNY also thinks Rob has the chance to “vault himself into the realm of such great actors as Johnny Depp”:
“Robert Pattinson has been given his chance to expand his fan base and vault himself into the realm of such great actors as Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise. By replacing Colin Farrell in the movie Cosmopolis Rob Pattinson now has a film that can help him make the transition from a heartthrob in fantasy films to a serious actor in a blockbuster film.
Cosmopolis is a film based on the book written by Don DeLillo. The movie is about the story of Eric Packer, a 28 year old multi-billionaire asset manager who makes an odyssey across midtown Manhattan in order to get a haircut. During the course of the day Parker ends up betting his entire fortune in the market against the Yen and ends up in trouble with people gunning for him. The plot takes place during one days time.
Pattinson will star in the movie with Marion Cotttilard and Paul Giamati.
This is a great opportunity for Robert Pattinson to show that he is more than just a pretty face that can act in a fantasy film. I understand that Pattinson is also set to star in Water for Elephants, and that film, with a good performance, could advance his career as well, but to be the star of an action/thriller film could do more for his career. He has already shown that he can play a sensitive character with a love interest in the Twilight films so Water for Elephants won’t give us too much more of an insight into his acting ability, but if he can pull off being the star of an action/thriller then the sky is the limit for Pattinson because it means he could act in any movie regardless of character or plot.
The reason that Pattinson was cast as the lead role is because Colin Farrell decided to leave the film in order to star in a remake of Total Recall.”
I am loving these positive articles – it’s a welcome change.  I wonder if secretly there are some critics out there that were impressed with Rob’s performance as Tyler, but just didn’t want to admit that he was more than Edward in Twilight.  I’m sure Australia doesn’t have the market on the “tall poppy syndrome”.  Although the only other thing I will say  is not sure if Jacob will be another Edward, although I understand where Brain is coming from.
