Robert Pattinson’s Upcoming Projects

 image host

I tweeted today that The King has finally been removed from Rob’s IMDbPro page.  It’s not a surprise to me because I believe Justin Kroll when he said that Rob wasn’t involved given he had the exclusive on Joel Edgerton.  IMDb | IMDbPro isn’t 100% accurate at the best of times, but I thought I’d take this opportunity to reflect on the projects in development currently listed on Rob’s page:

The Lighthouse (Robert Eggers)

Robert Pattinson said he was excited about his next project and “excited to be in a horror movie by Robert Eggers.”

Rob is currently in Nova Scotia with William Dafoe.  The film is currently in pre-production and filming is rumoured to commence on Monday 9 April 2018 and scheduled to finish around 11 May 2018.  We also know they have finalised the building of the lighthouse (see pic above) and the roads are now closed off from the general public.  It’s currently slated to be released in 2019.

The Souvenir: Part 2 (Joanna Hogg)

Not much is known about The Souvenir: Part 2 other than filming is supposed to start in the summer of this year and that Rob will have a leading role.  Part 1 is currently post production as at 22 October 2017, but we should know next Thursday (12 April 2018) if it is in fact going to Cannes as has been rumoured.

 Robert Pattinson #TheLighthouse will be unlike anything audiences have ever seen

image host

Fray Movie posted this shoutout to the cinematographer for The Lighthouse, Jarin Blaschke.  Apart from it turning up on Rob’s tag, what caught my eye was the comment “I’ve gotten to be part of a few lens tests and seen concepts for it.  This one is going to be unlike anything audiences have ever seen“.

If you haven’t seen Robert Eggers and Jarin Blaschke last collobaration “The Witch”, then you should check out this IndieWire article from back in 2016.  Robert Eggers and Jarin Blaschke spoke about how they created the look for the film. When you have a cinematographer stating:

I’d rather reconceive something, or see how we can distill something further, rather than do a watered down version of the thing we intended. … I’d rather maintain the core of what we are going for than do a sloppy version.”

you know you are going to be seeing something special.  I’m so intrigued by this film … lucky Rob fans are trained in being  patient (or so we think).

A big shout-out to FRAY cinematographer (and longtime friend) who, after shooting @thewitchmovie is currently in pre-production on a new one shooting next month with director Rob Eggers again and actors Willem Defoe and Robert Pattinson called The Lighthouse. I’ve gotten to be part of a few lens tests and seen concepts for it. This one is going to be unlike anything audiences have ever seen. #jarinblaschke #thevvitch #thelighthouse #robertpattinson #willemdafoe #roberteggers #artfilm #blackandwhite #surrealist #filmmaking #cinematographer #cinematography #longtimefriend #trueartist

Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe to star in Robert Eggers’ next film “The Lighthouse”

‘This new script blew us away – it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous, and beautiful all at the same time’ A24

Following the myriad of media outlets that confirmed Rob’s involvement with Willem Dafoe in Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse” – this is what we know about the project so far.  There has been speculation that this could be the next movie Rob is filming, and I believe although Willem Dafoe may currently be filming Edward Norton’s “Motherless Brooklyn” the fact that he mentioned to DW that his beard is for his next role as a lighthouse keeper, makes it seem like it’s a definite possibility:

  • According to Production Weekly (much thanks to CandeyQ) the film is set to to film in the Spring 2018;
  • IMDbPro added a casting director, production designer and costume designer – all of whom worked with Robert Eggers on The Witch
  • Jarin Blaschke is the cinematographer who worked on The Witch with Robert Eggers;
  • Rumours emerged that the film would be shot in Yarmouth with The Vanguard reporting:

“On Feb. 20, Patti Durkee, a Municipality of Yarmouth councillor and Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society director, posted a request on Facebook for carpenters or handymen who might be interested in working on a set for the movie The Lighthouse to be filmed in Yarmouth. The post was shared by Town of Yarmouth mayor Pam Mood and 211 others by the next morning.”

However, nothing has been announced on Screen Nova Scotia, and when asked about The Lighthouse stated that they only comment on projects when they are officially confirmed/announced.

Cape Forchu Lighthouse did post this on their Facebook, which elicited the following comment ” I curled with the set construction manager last night. They are building an 1850s style lighthouse near Cape Forchu for the film. $10 million budget overall, about $1.6 being spent in Yarmouth”.

Robert Pattinson Joins Willem Dafoe in Robert Eggers “The Lighthouse”

image host

“[The Lighthouse] creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous,

and beautiful all at the same time”, A24

Remember last week when we posted about the rumour that Rob was involved in a film with Willem Dafoe called “The Lighthouse”?  Then the information was removed and it made me cautious that perhaps it wasn’t going ahead?   I’m really happy to say that the information was correct.  Media outlets this morning were reporting of the news.  Here’s a roundup of what they had to say:

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Robert Pattinson will join Willem Dafoe in fantasy horror film The Lighthouse from writer-director Robert Eggers.

The Lighthouse, which is scheduled to go before cameras this spring, is set in the world of old sea-faring myths, taking place in Nova Scotia in the early 20th century and centering on an aging lighthouse keeper (Dafoe).

The project hails from A24, which recently worked with Pattinson on Good Time and Dafoe on The Florida Project. The company also distributed Eggers’ debut, The Witch.

Rodrigo Teixeira and Lourenço Sant’ Anna will produce via their Brazil-based RT Features, after having developed the project with Eggers. Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy and Youree Henley will also produce. New Regency, which is currently working with RT Features on sc-fi thriller Ad Astra, will co-finance.

Pattinson recently debuted his comedic Western Damsel at the Sundance Film Festival and is set for the Netflix feature The King, starring opposite Timothee Chalamet.
