Robert Pattinson Films Making “Most Ancitipated” Lists of 2018

image host

Following the stellar year Rob has had with Good Time and The Lost City of Z, it appears we’re not the only ones anticipating Damsel and High Life.  Here’s the first batch of “Most Anticipated” lists (which I will keep updating):

CINEVUE Our 20 Most Anticipated Films of 2018

High Life (dir. Claire Denis)
Claire Denis’ Let the Sunshine In hasn’t reached UK cinemas and yet we’re already due her follow-film High Life, featuring Denis regular Juliette Binoche alongside Robert Pattinson and Mia Goth. In the film, a group of skilled criminals, in a bid to escape their long sentences or capital punishment, accept a likely-fatal government space mission to find alternative energy sources. Denis does high concept sci-fi? Count us in.

THE PLAYLIST The 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2018

6. “High Life”
Director: Claire Denis (“Let The Sun Shine In”)
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Mia Goth, Andre Benjamin, Agata Buzek
Synopsis: A group of convicts are used as reproductive experiments against their will by scientists.
What You Need To Know: The great French helmer Claire Denis’s first foray into sci-fi territory (with a script by the great novelist Zadie Smith and her poet husband Nick Laird) first made our list two years ago when it seemed on the verge of shooting, but it didn’t happen for one reason or another, and when she shifted to this year’s Juliette Binoche-starrer “Let The Sun Shine In,” we worried that “High Life” was dead. Fortunately, filming finally got underway last year, with the long-attached Robert Pattinson (in a role envisioned first for Vincent Gallo, then Phillip Seymour Hoffman) joined by Binoche, Andre 3000 and Polish actress Agata Buzek, among others. We’ve had a plethora of space movies of late, but expect this to be utterly distinct from any of them.
Release Date: Shooting wrapped in October, so a Venice bow seems more likely than Cannes.

60. “Damsel”
Director: The Zellner Brothers (“Kumiko The Treasure Hunter”)
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, David Zellner, Nathan Zellner
Synopsis: A businessman goes West to join his fiancée in the mountains.
What You Need To Know: If there were any doubters still left that his talents were legit, one-time “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson firmly dispelled them in 2017, first with a wonderfully characterful supporting turn in “The Lost City Of Z,” then with a barnstormer of a lead performance in “Good Time,” genuinely one of the year’s best. For his next trick, the artist formerly known as R-Patz is teaming up with some more acclaimed indie filmmakers, the sibling duo behind the excellent “Kumiko The Treasure Hunter” for this semi-Western, described by the star himself intriguingly as a “slapstick comedy,” also starring the ever-reliable Mia Wasikowska.
Release Date: Sundance

Robert Pattinson and his #HighLife Costars

Lars Eidinger shared this photo of himself with Rob and Claire Tran that appears to have been taken by another #HighLife co-star Gloria Obianyo.  From Rob’s hair it’s clearly from around the time they were filming.

Who plays Robert Pattinson’s Daughter “Willow” in High Life

We always assumed Mia Goth was playing Willow, Monte’s daughter in #HighLife.  That’s her character name on IMDbPro.  Pandora Film’s website has this latest synopsis though that claims Willow is his “infant daughter” so clearly not Mia (you can check out others on our Film Page):

Deep space. Beyond our solar system. Monte and his infant daughter Willow live together aboard a spacecraft, in complete isolation. A solitary man, whose strict self-discipline is a protection against desire – his own and that of others. He was member of a crew of prisoners: space convicts, death row inmates. Guinea pigs sent on a mission to the black hole closest to Earth. Together, alone, father and daughter approach their destination – the black hole in which all time and space cease to exist.

The Hollywood Reporter has added the following correction on their Claire Denis story from back in November:

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Mia Goth’s character as Pattinson’s daughter. Jessie Ross plays Pattinson’s daughter in the film.

Hmmm … my search skills are lacking this morning as I can’t seem to find a photo of this elusive Jessie Ross, and the one I can find definitely isn’t an infant!  The plot thickens.

Robert Pattinson and his Films Make 2017 Best of Lists “growing more confident in his abilities and potent in his screen presence”

Robert, Good Time and The Lost City of Z are included and/or topping quite a few “Best of 2017” lists, so I thought I would collate so that we can keep track of what’s being said about Rob and/or his films.

FILM COMMENT “Best Films of 2017”

1 Good Time

After spending their early films exulting in freedom from employment, buoying and buoyed by a kind of boho-anarcho amorality, the Safdies made a film dunked in the gasoline of white privilege, and they lit a match” Eric Hynes, “Urban Legends” cover story for July/August 2017 issue

9 The Lost City of Z

“Rather than depict Fawcett’s journey as devolving into a kind of Herzogian madness, Gray and leading man Charlie Hunnam take a matter-of-fact, internalized approach to the character, treating his obsession with the possibly mythical Z a an almost practical means of emotional escape.” Michael Koresky, “The Search” feature and interview from March/April 2017

THE NEW YORKER “The Best Movies of 2017”

3. “Good Time” (Josh and Benny Safdie)

“Good Time,” starring Robert Pattinson, streaks and smears and shreds the screen with a sense of furious subjectivity.

31. “The Lost City of Z” (James Gray)

The story of a search that doesn’t come to fruition, a series of missions that don’t achieve their goals, and that nonetheless reverberate powerfully and enduringly.
