I have been waiting for IMDb update and include Idol’s Eye on Robert’s page.  Excellent.  I like the new summary they have added.  It previously said “A group of crooks get in over their heads when they try to rob a pawn shop.”

Now this is brilliant news to wake up to – especially since it is RPAU’s 8th Anniversary.  We posted here and here that Oliver Asayas might be resurrecting the film and from AFM Screen Daily reports:

AFM: Sylvester Stallone joins Olivier Assayas’s ‘Idol’s Eye’

Stallone replaces Robert De Niro in the heist thriller and will star alongside Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz.

Lotus Entertainment has launched sales here on Idol’s Eye, Olivier Assayas’ cherished heist thriller that will now star Sylvester Stallone as Chicago mob boss Tony Accardo.

Stallone replaces Robert De Niro and takes his place alongside Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz on the $25m project, which has been reassembled and is ready to shoot in Toronto in February after financing fell through in late 2014.

Lotus came on board to finance and sell international rights after Toronto International Film Festival. WME Global assembled the revised package and represents US rights.

We posted back on 16 September that Idol’s Eye may be resurrected.  And I stress that it’s more than likely not going to be the same cast, but who knows with Robert – he may really want to do this film.  Fingers crossed as I really need moustached 70s Robert in my life.  Here’s an extract from Daniel Kasman’s interview with Oliver Assayas at NYFF:

NOTEBOOK: I must ask: Is there any chance for this American burglary film to be reborn?
ASSAYAS: We’re trying. We got the rights back. We never really lost them, but the problem was that we had a crazy financier who spent a lot of money and then pulled the plug for reasons unknown. He basically blocked the project for almost two years and is now going bankrupt. So he needs whatever money back he can, so finally he’s ready to let us go ahead. The problem is the strings that are attached. Now, making the film involves (a) making it on a lower budget—because we spent a lot of money already—basically for nothing; and (b) returning him some money. That means we have to make the movie for much less money, so we’re trying to figure out if we can do it. It’s something that will happen—or not—in the next few weeks, really, because we need winter. It’s a winter film. We will be shooting in January or late January. Either it’s happening right now, or not at all. Which is not the nice part of filmmaking! It’s really exciting, you know? [laughs]

I don’t want to get hopes up, but according to Crave Online, who interviewed Oliver Assayas at TIFF:

What’s next? Is it that period piece?

I have been, like a couple of years ago, I wrote and prepared a film that was kind of shut down like a day before shooting, here in Canada, which was like an expensive international film. It might be happening again so I’m kind of looking forward to that.”

According to latest Assayas news, his next film is a collaboration with Roman Polanski (Assayas is scriptwriting not directing) and this is due to commence filming in November (this is also confirmed on IMDbPro).

Idol’s Eye was due to commence filming in Toronto as you will recall we posted about the cancellation here and Oliver talked about the shut down of the film here.  You might also recall that back in April 2015, we posted that Oliver Assayas was hopeful to revive the film.  Okay I might be getting my hopes up.  Can’t wait to see if Robert and Bob are still involved if it does come to fruition.  Stay tuned.
