Robert Pattinson talks Christopher Nolan with Collider

image host

Robert Pattinson and Claire Denis sat down with Haleigh Foutch from Collider recently to talk High Life and asked Rob about his new Christopher Nolan film:

Before I run out of time. Robert, you are working with Christopher Nolan soon and I know you can’t say anything about the movie itself, but as an actor who has chosen very different films from an action blockbuster for most of your career, how are you finding your prep is different from what you’ve been doing for the last decade?

PATTINSON: I was literally just thinking that yesterday. I kinda went to see some of the stuff in prepping for it, and I was also so worried about doing a big movie. I mean, definitely at this stage, it always seems quite similar ’cause you just sort of see… it’s just drawings and photographs and stuff. But I was amazed with Chris just being pretty open to stuff already. There’s definitely things that seem like they’re just very tightly choreographed already but he’s pretty loose with a lot of stuff.

That’s interesting, that’s not what you think of when you think of Nolan’s process.

PATTINSON: It’s not what people told me, at all. I did hear him talking to some people before I started managing with him and you should see people’s brains, he’s explaining things and they’re just like, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” But I think it’s gonna be fun though.

Robert Pattinson starring in Christopher Nolan’s next project

image host

We don’t know much about Rob’s new project with Christopher Nolan, (and we probably won’t find out too much given the secrecy that surrounds Nolan’s films) other than Rob is co-starring with John David Washington and Elizabeth Debicki. Warner Bros is the distributor and proposes to release the film in IMAX on 17 July 2020.

Variety gave us a first glimpse by reporting that an insider has called the project a “massive, innovative, action blockbuster” that will be shown in Imax.  THR ran a story last week about Nolan joining up with a new editor, Jennifer Lame (of Hereditary fame) and snuck in the following:

… sources have described it as a globe-trotting adventure that has shades of the mind-bending nature of Inception but does involve the time continuum.

Rob told USA Today during #HighLife promo last week that he was “sworn to secrecy”:

“I got locked in a room to read the script â€“ I don’t have it myself,” he says. “I’ve been a little wary of doing big movies for years and years, but there’s just something about Chris Nolan’s stuff. He seems like the only director now who can do what is essentially a very personal, independent movie that has huge scale. I read the script and it’s unreal.”

Robert Pattinson talks High Life and Christopher Nolan Project

USA Today recently spoke to Rob in the lead up to the release of High Life and this is what Rob had to say about his latest Christopher Nolan Project:

The actor says he’s “sworn to secrecy” about the project, which has been described as a “massive, innovative action blockbuster.”

“I got locked in a room to read the script – I don’t have it myself,” he says. “I’ve been a little wary of doing big movies for years and years, but there’s just something about Chris Nolan’s stuff. He seems like the only director now who can do what is essentially a very personal, independent movie that has huge scale. I read the script and it’s unreal.”

Rob obviously also talked about High Life. Check out an extract below, but you can read the full article by clicking on the hyperlink above:

When Pattinson read writer/director Claire Denis’ script for the first time, “I was like, ‘Wait a second? What is this?’ ” he says with a laugh. “I was fascinated. I knew it was going to spark a conversation.”

In reality, the room constructed on the set “sort of looked like a public toilet with a dildo chair,” he adds. “I was like, ‘Claire, this is quite a literal interpretation of a sex box.’ The art department spent a lot of time in sex shops getting various objects for it.”

Pattinson, 32, was drawn to the story because “it presented itself as a puzzle,” he says. “You had to sort of feel your way through it without really knowing what the exact rules of the script were.”

“I used to play gigs all the time and have always said I’d love to again,” Pattinson says. “But there’s a strange stigma with actors trying to do music, and it is something quite frightening to me. I’ve learned how to deal with criticism in film, but I’m very vulnerable to it in music. I don’t know whether I’m willing to take the hits – I prefer to have an audience of one or two (friends).”

Robert Pattinson is set to star alongside John David Washington in Christopher Nolan’s next film

Collider is exclusively reporting:

The pieces of Christopher Nolan‘s next cinematic puzzle are starting to fall into place, as Robert Pattinson is poised to star opposite John David Washington in the next film from the director of Inception, Collider has exclusively learned.

With plot details being kept under wraps, little is known about the actual film, though Variety described it as “a massive, innovative action blockbuster” that will once again be shown in IMAX — no surprise given Nolan’s preference for the large-screen format. Nolan will produce alongside his wife and longtime collaborator, Emma Thomas, and Warner Bros. will release the movie on July 17, 2020, with production expected to start this summer.

My understanding is that Pattinson and Washington (BlacKkKlansman) will play the two leads, and there will also be an age-appropriate female lead, as well as an older male co-star. I don’t know if there’s a love triangle in play here, or whether Pattinson and Washington will be friends or enemies, so just like all of you, I can’t wait to find out what Nolan’s next movie is actually about. There’s speculation that the film could be a sequel of sorts to Inception, and while I don’t expect that to be the case — outside of his Batman trilogy, Nolan has eschewed franchise fare, including sequels — I suppose anything is possible. You never know with Nolan, who’s coming off of 2017’s Dunkirk, which brought him his first Oscar nomination as a director and grossed $526 million worldwide, so the world (and Hollywood especially) is his oyster

Warner Bros is distributing the film – which might explain the Batman rumours, but time will tell about that too if in fact there is any truth to it.
