So as most of you know, Vertigo and I went to a presentation for Dior Homme.  Can you think of a better way to view Rob’s interview and Dior’s official commercial whilst sitting in a room surrounded by pictures of Rob promoting Dior Homme and sipping on Moet.  No – me neither.  “1000 lives in one day”.  Yep that’s DiorRob.   So here’s Vertigo and my report.

First off I want to thank the ladies at Dior Sydney for making this event special for us.  Honestly, they made Vertigo and I feel like Rob royalty – thank you.  It was an intimate presentation for bloggers – so there were about 12 of us to view the official commercial and interview that Rob has given.  We also viewed an amazing video “An Introduction to Robert Pattinson” that has been put together by Dior.  For those who have asked if they will see it – I hope so.  I have put in a request for a copy of it, but they need to ask for approval, so fingers crossed I will know in next few days.  It’s footage of Rob, all of his films, some papz shots/footage, but it’s all so tastefully done to the song “Love is Blindness” (and I’m pretty sure it’s the Jack White version).  It’s one of the best promo reels I’ve seen. (Vertigo – when presenting the introduction, the lovely lady says “but first, who is Robert Pattinson”? You can imagine our grins from ear to ear and the vid gave me goosebumps and buzz from head to toe). I joked that it was really telling that I could name every event that was in the vid – NGL I really could.   They said it would be good for a trivia night about Rob.  I like that idea.  Anyway, fingers crossed you all get to see it somehow if we can’t bring it to you.  Oh and one of the comments made on the Who is Rob vid – “Hollywood’s most bankable male”.  Yep I’m pretty sure that’s what it said.

Dior admitted that Rob being the face of Dior Homme was the worst kept secret – I did tell them that Rob’s fandom has some seriously obsessed fans who leave no stone unturned.  They laughed.  I think they thought I was exaggerating.  Of course we know I’m not.   Dior is thrilled that Rob agreed to be the face of the Dior Homme range, was brilliant. (Vertigo – their enthusiasm had us bouncing off the walls) They refer to him as a “new icon”.    I wish I had recorded the entire thing so I can remember everything.  One thing I do remember clearly though was that the commercial was received exceptionally well by those who hadn’t seen it and yes the main consensus is that “Rob is sexy” and I did hear a few “I was never a fan of his but I’m a convert now”. (Vertigo – I may have congratulated them for seeing the light) – she really did.   I also like the fact that Dior said – let’s see that again, and we’ll play once more because we can.  Yes please.  It’s definitely a delight seeing it on a big screen rather than laptop/phone/iPad, but hey I’ll take it anywhere I can see it.

General consensus:  Rob is a sexy man.

Vertigo & Me:  Welcome to the same page.

You know what else was a delight – seeing the Viewfinder for real and having a play with it.  Unfortunately I couldn’t bring it home with me because apparently only 3 were provided for Australia – 3!!!  Do they not realise what a goldmine the viewfinders would be for them, but as Dior reminded me – they are a fragrance company.  Alas, I had to give the viewfinder back – see here’s proof I put it back 🙁 (Vertigo – haha I actually had to take it from Maria’s hands – tight grip or what!)

These were strategically placed around the room, but this one contained the viewfinder.

Did we mention there was a life size poster!  Vertigo may have draped herself over it – there might be a picture taken by Dior of that.  Yeah a little nervous of where that might surface to be honest lol. (Vertigo – so am I!)

Now for the information …

Viewfinders, DVD of commercial, framed photos:  No they have no plans to sell them separately.  Although they did say they appreciated our input -maybe because I was insisting it would be a goldmine for them –  so I’m going to say never say never!

Australia:   The 4 fragrances are available now, but the actual campaign will be for Christmas and you will see it instore and the commercial on TV from about mid-November.  And no it’s not going to be the director’s cut unfortunately – I had to ask you know.

New Zealand:  At this stage no definite date for when it will be unleashed, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be Christmas.

UK :  No information about that since it”s different marketing zone than Australia.  Sorry.  I tried.

Dior Homme Fragrances:

There are 4 fragrances in Rob’s Dior Homme range – Dior Homme (originally released in 2005), Dior Intense (previously available in Europe, but released in Australia for the first time during Rob’s campaign), Dior Sport and Dior Cologne.  Do yourselves a favour and go and test them all  – they are all slightly different, but I found it hard to decide which was a favourite. (Vertigo – I love them all too, Intense however is my absolute fave – I guess it will depend on my mood on any given day, but yes, they are declicious). Thankfully Dior gave us each a bottle of Dior Homme and Dior Sport.  So I’ll be buying the other two – you know – one for the gym, one for the office, one for every day and one for special occasions.  Dior Homme so thoughtful in covering all bases for me.  In case you can’t decide though – here’s some information on all 4 fragrances (prices are AUD).

So all in all it was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.  You know talking Rob is my favourite pastime, and thankfully Dior’s PR team were happy to hear anything and everything about Rob and tell us what they knew as well about the campaign.  More information will follow closer to the Australian release.  We are looking forward to working with Dior to ensure the success of this campaign.
(Vertigo – it was pure joy having the opportunity to see other people’s reactions to the film in real life. I am grateful for this experience. Thank you Dior, RPAU and Rob for making the right choice.)

Maria:  Agree – the reaction to Rob – it was fantastic.  And more importantly – everyone knows he’s moved on from Edward Cullen and that he’s leaving that behind and moving forward to be the “sexy man” Dior knows him to be.  Onwards and upwards Rob – you’ve earned it.

If we remember anything else we will tell you – don’t worry about that.

    OMG *FANGIRL TWIRLS* thank you SOOO much girls for sharing this amazing experience with us here – I can’t stop grinning from ear to ear (I’m starting to scare people) 🙂 I couldn’t be happier for you both, so much deserved!! – seriously, what a blissful sounding afternoon. Seeing Rob on the big screen, talking Rob, getting to see other people’s reactions, hearing positive and supportive comments about him and the campaign. GOLD. Then there’s the wall to wall Rob everywhere in the place – heavenly 😀 As we keep saying here at RPAU – the future is bright, the future is ROB. 😀

    Such a brilliant write up and thank you for asking about the UK – I will sit here waiting (not so) patiently for more news. 😉

    One thing I just tweeted and forgot to mention here. Dior definitely confirmed that Rob had input about the director and that Gavras would definitely not have been one of their first choices. However, they are absolutely thrilled about the final product.

I had a giggle when I read the bit about you being able to name every event in the Rob vid ~ I don’t doubt it for a second!

    I’m a little disappointed, though, to be completely honest. Maria, how in the hell did you NOT fight harder to keep that viewfinder in your possession?!!! You DESERVED that!!! And Vertigo, SHAME ON YOU for prying it out of her hands. With friends like that ……. LOL

    Thank you so much sharing! I somehow feel like I’ve just experienced it too! Seriously, Dior needs to consider you both to be campaign managers for Australia lol! Then we’d get all the good stuff! 😉 But THREE view finders! ONLY three! *checks savings* Yeah… It’s going to take a while! 😛

    I just about stopped myself from screaming though when I read the ad was being released here! I had asked around in Myer – they told me the visual ads would never replace Charlize’s one because the men’s line wasn’t popular enough. All that’s repeating through my head right now is “You wait lady! You just wait!” Then I was told at David Jones that the visuals would most likely be at the city if any was released. Little girl asking about visual campaigns? Yeah, that DJ lady was so on to me! Oh she knew! She knew! I definitely know where I’m going to be hanging around mid-november! Really hoping I can somehow score a swag bag!

    It all sounds beyond amazing. I’m so happy for your girls that you got to experience this. And I am so proud of Rob because of his input and the way he pulled this off which obviously surprised and pleased Dior immensely. He truly is amazing in every way. And to hear that a lot of people are actually seeing him now in a new light….well that’s the icing on the cake isn’t it? Heady stuff, enough to make me feel giddy. Squeee

    OMG how freaking amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you both what a thrill and a privelage to be invited by Dior! You so deserve it and I am grinning from ear to ear just imaging you two like kids in candy shop. But oh so much better than candy!

    I can’t even begin to tell you what would have happened if I stood in front of that giant pic of Rob (oh wait but I already did tell you lol). Was there an elevator nearby? Just sayin 😛

    So happy for you and so proud of Rob. This really is epic and am so excited for him to be seen by a whole new audience. They really don’t know what they have been missing!

Dior must have been thrilled to have you there as their biggest Rob advocates and will keep you in the loop with the whole campaign.     @Maz – if you were asking prior to yesterday then my guess is that they hadn’t been told anything about the campaign. Dior did tell me that they couldn’t respond to any of my earlier emails because they just weren’t allowed to tell anyone anything about the campaign until Paris had launched it. They did laugh as I said in our account of the day that it had been the worst kept secret ever.

    He’ll replace Charlize because they will be showing the commercial on TV (and probably cinemas too). I can’t remember if she said yes or I just dream that I asked lol.

    I honestly thought today would never come – I was scared that it just wouldn’t happen, so I stayed away from my computer the whole day because I didn’t want to be disappointed. I waited until now (about 4.30AM) to sneak a peek at my favourite site and… MIRACLES HAPPENED. This film (I won’t insult Gavras by calling it an advert) this film was BEAUTIFUL. Rob was beautiful – the whole thing was breathtaking, sexy, powerful…and I could just sit here until the sun comes up watching it over and over and over again. Maria and Vertigo – I’m so glad you got to go today – what a perfect gift for you who have worked so tirelessly not only throughout this whole Dior campaign and the deluge from filming MTTS, but for the years of dedication and work you’ve put into sharing all things Rob with us. I’m only sad that Michelle missed out, and Jules, too. You girls deserve good things like this to happen to you. Thank you for bringing us all of this goodness, and for sharing your experiences with us. It’s the next best thing to being there myself. My heart’s so full at the moment, I just needed to share that with you. I have hours of viewing pleasure to go, so I’ll just shut up now.

Oh wait – no no that’s not right – I may have been insistent on the marketing of those products even when they told me their business was perfumes. I said – yes I know that but you have NO idea what this fandom will pay for this kind of merchandise – no idea at all.

Can Dior keep you posted on how Homme sales are doing/how high the percentage of sales are up, like movie box office takings, so we can support Rob and help his success in this campagin ?

    What an amazing afternoon and thank you so much for sharing with us, it is just awesome and so wonderful to hear everything. “Giggle” about the viewfinder – at least you have put it out there, so karma may reward you as you did return it @Maria even if it did require a little coaxing. It is just so exciting watching Rob and his career unfold in front of our eyes he definitely is a star and perfect 🙂 Mmm and I may have started another savings fund now as I have a Rob coming to OZ fund, now it will have to have an offset account Dior Homme products 😉
