‘Cosmopolis’ Costumer Designer Talks About Working With Rob

In an interview with Grazia Daily about ‘A Dangerous method’, costumer designer Denise Cronenberg talks a bit about Rob’s wardrobe for the ‘Cosmopolis’…

Grazia Daily: You’re working on Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson now, what’s that been like?
Denise Cronenberg: Oh, he’s lovely! He’s such a nice, sweet kid. He’s intelligent and smart; he was very brave to take on something like this because I think he was quite hesitant at first. But David is wonderful with actors and he’s a father of three, so he uses that. He and Robert had a wonderful relationship. It was an unusual film to do, very unusual. We had to do a rave, street fires and have cars exploding for this film! David and I decided what we thought we’d put Robert in. I then talked to Gucci who were incredible and gave us all his clothes. He’s dressed from head to toe in Gucci from the tie to his socks! And we had no money, like really, no money so we could never have done it without them.

    The Rainbow Connection

So I tried to think of the perfect gift for Vertigo’s birthday and there has been some talk lately about a favourite pair of jeans. I couldn’t bring you those pastel coloured jeans but I can bring you some Rob in all the colours of the rainbow!

    Beautiful in blue…

    So gorgeous in green

Rob blows me away in brown

    Ravishing red!

    Yummy in yellow!

Cosmopolis Gets A May 2012 Release Date?

Roberta emailed me overnight with a new Cosmopolis poster showing a release date of 18 May 2012. Interesting since Cannes starts on 16 May 2012. Anyway this doesn’t coincide with Cronenberg’s comments of late that they won’t be promoting this until end of year, although it does fall within his comments of screenings at film festivals. The plot thickens …

    Thanks Roberta.

    Experimental Friday Goes Cosmopolis

Oh Jules these are brilliant and thanks Sue for making this suggestion to Jules.  She thought she wouldn’t be able to do them justice – justice is definitely done Jules *swoon*.  And I’ll be honest, I’m surprised your wrist and hands could complete these since I know how much you voted during the brawl LOL

David Cronenberg’s Reaction to MTV Movie Brawl

    Photobucket

I thought you might all be interested to read David’s reaction to the win because not only does he say what we’ve been saying all along “if you’re a Rob fan, then you’ve got to be interested in “Cosmopolis,” because you will see him as you have not seen him before, for sure.“, but he sings praises again for Rob and also gives us a little insight into how the industry works.  I cannot wait to see the promo tour for this film.  Please if there is a  God bring David, Sarah and Rob to Sydney *getsdownonknees*.  Anyway, enough babbling from me, here’s what David had to say to MTV:

“Eric Packer is about to embark upon the worst car ride of his life. Thankfully, Robert Pattinson — the actor who plays Packer in “Cosmopolis” — doesn’t share his character’s fate.

Pattinson fans came out in full force to elect “Cosmopolis” the winner of the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, a weeks-long tournament that pitted several of 2012′s biggest releases against one another to determine which film is the must-see cinematic event of the year. After tense battles against titans like “Bel Ami,” “The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn: Part 2,” “The Dark Knight Rises” and “The Hunger Games,” it’s Pattinson’s upcoming indie thriller that took home the grand prize.

It’s a surprising result for many onlookers, given that “Cosmopolis” has yet to release a trailer and only has a tentative release date of 2012. But Rob’s fans rallied behind their man, opting to support his future in “Cosmopolis” over his past in “Twilight” — a commanding decision from a massive fanbase that demands attention, to say the least. In fact, the movement was so strong that it even caught “Cosmopolis” director David Cronenberg’s eye even before the film won the brawl for it all. Shortly after the victory was announced, Cronenberg got on the phone with MTV News to talk about what “Cosmopolis” winning the MTV Movie Brawl means for the film, Pattinson’s performance, when fans can expect to see a trailer and much more.

MTV: David, thanks for talking with us! Have you been filled in on what’s happened with “Cosmopolis” over here?

David Cronenberg: You know, I’ve been following it! I’m shocked! I’m shocked and amazed and really tickled. It proves that movie fans are unpredictable and really interesting and really passionate. It’s fantastic. I would have never, ever imagined that this would happen.

MTV: How did the tournament first get on your radar?

Cronenberg: Somebody sent me something and said, “Hey, we seem to be doing OK in this Movie Brawl thing that MTV’s got going on.” I didn’t know about it. At that point, we were struggling with “The Dark Knight,” I think. I thought, “Wow, that’s pretty impressive!” Because “Cosmopolis,” while I think in terms of what it is as cinema is pretty hefty, but in terms of budget and promotion, it’s an underdog compared to something like “The Dark Knight” franchise. I really didn’t think we would have much of a chance. That really got my attention.

MTV: What’s kind of incredible, too, is that right before that battle with Batman, “Cosmopolis” was up against “Twilight.” It was Rob versus Rob! In what we saw, it seemed that fans were putting their votes towards Rob’s future instead of his past.

Cronenberg: Well, and I think that’s one of the things that I meant when I said it was interesting. Because that’s not the kind of thing you would predict. But it was really terrific, and in that sense, they’re right. As I’ve said many times, if you’re a “Twilight” fan, then you might not be interested in “Cosmopolis” because Rob is not Mr. Cullen. But if you’re a Rob fan, then you’ve got to be interested in “Cosmopolis,” because you will see him as you have not seen him before, for sure.

‘Cosmopolis’ Spotlighted in Film International’s ‘Feature Focus’

The Curtis Brown agency shared this fabulous magazine scan via twitter. Oh yeah *nods head*, 2012 is going to be EPIC.

George Stroumboulopoulos Asks Sarah Gadon about Rob’s fans

George Stroumboulopoulos (and yes I can pronounce George’s surname easy) asked Sarah during his interview who has more diehard fans – Rob or Viggo Mortensen – seeing as Vertigo falls into both camps, I thought I would post and see if she agrees with Sarah’s response.

    “Who’s got crazier fans
GS: Who’s got crazier fans – well, let’s call them ‘passionate’ fans, Viggo Mortensen or Robert Pattinson?

SG: You know I thought it would be Rob, but then when we were in Venice Viggo has some diehard fans, and they just they love him! They freak out for him. But you know Rob doesn’t even have fans … he has this like, CIA. They know where he is, they know everything, they know every detail – they’re on it, so….

GS: That means you’re in it! You know we have a photograph here – every time there’s a photo of you and him together … [this is actually a great shot of the two of you in a scene] …when you get caught up in that, does your life change at all, in any way?

SG: Well, I think when we were shooting I made a really strong effort to not pay attention to any press, or anything, because you’re so involved in your characters and in your work, and you don’t want anything on the outside to inform this working relationship that you’re creating, and so I really tried to block that out, but then afterwards when the shooting finished and people kept saying things to me I kind of thought wow you know – maybe that really was a whirlwind that we were caught up in. “

This is apparently a teaser from the full interview which is airing this evening in Canada (if it hasn’t already).  Thanks to Deb at CosmopolisFilm.

Can I just say – it takes a lot for me to fangirl over an actress.  I tend to do it over Meryl Streep and occasionally Julianne Moore and Hilary Swank.  I think I now have to add Sarah to that list.  She reminds me of a female version of Rob – she just has a presence about her.

Cosmopolis Makes Another “Most Anticipated” List for 2012

Hmmm “no agenda, but the truth baby” – I’m hoping that doesn’t come back to bite you Ricky D, because although you’ve included Cosmopolis at no. 15 of your 30 Most Anticipated films at SoundonSight you’ve kind of had a dig, I think, at Rob by insinuating he’s not part of the “impressive cast”.  Seeing as I have no agenda but the truth either, I’m going to assume that’s not what you mean, or you will at least be eating humble pie and retracting that comment once you’ve seen the movie.  Otherwise we might have to ponder what the “D” actually stands for … Michelle I think you have a suggestion:

    “15- Cosmopolis

While P.T. Anderson may be my favourite American filmmaker working today, David Cronenberg is not only my favourite Canadian filmmaker, but is somewhere on my list of my ten favourite directors of all time. The man has only made one film that I did not like (guess which one) and I’d easily place about five of his films on my top 100. Here Cronenberg adapts a critically revered and best-selling novel and places teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson at the centre, as a newlywed billionaire who ends up losing his bride and his billions in a single day. A bunch of Cronenberg’s favourite themes are explored, including man’s relationship with modern technology, murder and yes, sexual obsession. Apart from Pattinson, the impressive cast includes Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric.”

PS.  Ricky – that pic above looks more man than teen heartthrob to me … just sayin

Robert Pattinson Reboots Image in Bel Ami & Cosmopolis

A short but positive mention by David Gritten, a member of the London Film Critic Circle, who gives props to Rob for moving his career forward with projects such as Bel Ami and Cosmopolis.

And no question about it, Mr. Gitten, Rob IS a very smart young man.

    Excerpt…

“Either Robert Pattinson is a very smart young man, or he has an astute agent. Maybe both. Whatever the truth, he’s moving on rapidly from the wildly successful Twilight franchise and rebooting his image.

The process begins in March, when Bel Ami, a reworking of the Maupassant novel, opens here. Pattinson plays a young upstart in late 19th-century Paris who works his way up the social ladder through sexual liaisons with the wives of influential men. Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas, both old enough to be mums of the Twilight fan base, are his co-stars, along with Christina Ricci.

Later this year we should be seeing Cosmopolis, directed by David Cronenberg from Don DeLillo’s novel of 2003. It is 24 hours in the life of a young Manhattanite (played by Pattinson) who has made a huge killing in the money markets. No one’s film career has ever been hurt by working for Cronenberg, who told me recently how highly he rates Pattinson. Clearly, he’ll be around for a while.”
