Respecting Rob because actions speak louder than words.
Hmmm “no agenda, but the truth baby” – I’m hoping that doesn’t come back to bite you Ricky D, because although you’ve included Cosmopolis at no. 15 of your 30 Most Anticipated films at SoundonSight you’ve kind of had a dig, I think, at Rob by insinuating he’s not part of the “impressive cast”. Seeing as I have no agenda but the truth either, I’m going to assume that’s not what you mean, or you will at least be eating humble pie and retracting that comment once you’ve seen the movie. Otherwise we might have to ponder what the “D” actually stands for … Michelle I think you have a suggestion:
“15- Cosmopolis
While P.T. Anderson may be my favourite American filmmaker working today, David Cronenberg is not only my favourite Canadian filmmaker, but is somewhere on my list of my ten favourite directors of all time. The man has only made one film that I did not like (guess which one) and I’d easily place about five of his films on my top 100. Here Cronenberg adapts a critically revered and best-selling novel and places teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson at the centre, as a newlywed billionaire who ends up losing his bride and his billions in a single day. A bunch of Cronenberg’s favourite themes are explored, including man’s relationship with modern technology, murder and yes, sexual obsession. Apart from Pattinson, the impressive cast includes Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric.”
PS. Ricky – that pic above looks more man than teen heartthrob to me … just sayin
Get ready to see some more of this …. I love how the People’s Choice Awards always wait until last minute to announce Rob’s attendance. Seriously I bet it’s so Rob’s fans won’t camp out Lol.
For Aussies, I”m just checking if the show will air on Aussie TV because I’m pretty sure FOX8 screened it last year, plus there will be a livestream of the red carpet at PCA’s FB page and we will repost this on Thursday (Aussie time).
Maybe? Who knows really since nothing has been confirmed, but CinemaBlend’s article on Cronenberg’s films being turned into “Augmented Reality Games” makes me stand up and, well, pay attention:
“This year was already shaping up nicely for fans of filmmaker David Cronenberg. His latest release A Dangerous Method is currently in theaters, and while his next film Cosmopolis is still in post-production without an official release date, a Toronto International Film Festival is now looking likely thanks to some interesting news from up north.
With the help of the Canadian government, the festival (TIFF) is planning a large interactive retrospective of Cronenberg’s work; the grant proposal for government funding was called “The Worlds of David Cronenberg: An Augmented Reality Game.” A what? Well, at it’s most basic, an ARG is essentially any game where the real world is augmented by a computer generated sensory experience. … Pretty awesome right? Now, imagine that gaming experience extrapolated online and onto multiple platforms, including social media tools and locative services (like GPS), and utilizing the latest 3D modelling technology in order to recreate the characters, narratives and worlds of David Cronenberg’s films. And you get to use all this advanced tech in what the TIFF proposal describes as “stylized social-media meets psychological-thriller game play.”

Oh and whilst I’m here, I see Oliver Lyttleton of The Playlist has included Cosmopolis in his 50 Most Anticipated Films of 2012. You’re not alone there Oliver, you’re not alone:
“Cosmopolis” Synopsis: Based on the novel by American author Don DeLillo, it centers on Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), a young multi-billionaire making an epic, ultimately doomed limo ride across New York City. What You Need to Know:David Cronenberg is enjoying an unparalleled level of critical and commercial acceptance after decades hovering on the fringe. At the outset, “Cosmopolis” seems to fall in line with the mannered, critic-friendly films of the recent Cronenberg era. It is, after all, an adaptation of a critically revered and best-selling novel and stars hunky heartthrob-of-the-moment Robert Pattinson. But on closer inspection, the movie seems more atypical and dangerous (a good thing, since “A Dangerous Method” felt far too safe for a filmmaker known for exploding heads and genital mutilation), taking place primarily in a stretch limousine as it crawls through New York City (not exactly a cinematic conceit). A number of Cronenberg’s favorite thematic tics are explored, too, including man’s relationship with modern technology, the messiness of murder and sexual obsession. So while it might be sold as another buttoned-up late era Cronenberg think piece, we’re hoping it’s going to be ruder, looser, and more like the days of yore, even if it has to be without the exploding heads and genital mutilation. Release Date: With press for “A Dangerous Method” occupying much of Cronenberg’s time in the fall of 2011, our guess is the fall film festival circuit will be the earliest we see the picture.
Um it’s Cronenberg and Rob, Oliver, I’ll take it any way David wants to give him to us.

Oh yeah like we didn’t know that 2012 was going to be Rob’s year. Time for all the philistines to catch up with what we’ve been saying for years. According to Next Movie Rob’s one of the 30 Actors to watch in 2012:
“Robert Pattinson
Starring in: “Bel Ami” (March 2); “Cosmopolis”; “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ (Nov. 16) Why It’s a Big Year: Just call him the prince of adaptations. Pattinson tackles three literary heroes in 2012: Guy de Maupassant’s manipulative Parisian in the period drama “Bel Ami,” Don DeLillo’s shallow Manhattan billionaire in “Cosmopolis” and — of course — Stephenie Meyer’s eternally young vampire in love, Edward Cullen, in the final “Twilight.”
NextMovie just so you know – I’d rather refer to him as the King of Hollywood because in all honesty – that’s what he is going to be if not already.
