Update:  I have had confirmation from Hopscotch that they will announce by end February when Bel-Ami is being released in Australia.  They may let us know earlier, but in my opinion, at this stage it’s looking like that 1 March date that people are claiming is definitely incorrect.  They will contact me as soon as the date is locked in and of course I’ll let you all know – Maria.

George Stroumboulopoulos Asks Sarah Gadon about Rob’s fans

George Stroumboulopoulos (and yes I can pronounce George’s surname easy) asked Sarah during his interview who has more diehard fans – Rob or Viggo Mortensen – seeing as Vertigo falls into both camps, I thought I would post and see if she agrees with Sarah’s response.

    “Who’s got crazier fans
GS: Who’s got crazier fans – well, let’s call them ‘passionate’ fans, Viggo Mortensen or Robert Pattinson?

SG: You know I thought it would be Rob, but then when we were in Venice Viggo has some diehard fans, and they just they love him! They freak out for him. But you know Rob doesn’t even have fans … he has this like, CIA. They know where he is, they know everything, they know every detail – they’re on it, so….

GS: That means you’re in it! You know we have a photograph here – every time there’s a photo of you and him together … [this is actually a great shot of the two of you in a scene] …when you get caught up in that, does your life change at all, in any way?

SG: Well, I think when we were shooting I made a really strong effort to not pay attention to any press, or anything, because you’re so involved in your characters and in your work, and you don’t want anything on the outside to inform this working relationship that you’re creating, and so I really tried to block that out, but then afterwards when the shooting finished and people kept saying things to me I kind of thought wow you know – maybe that really was a whirlwind that we were caught up in. “

This is apparently a teaser from the full interview which is airing this evening in Canada (if it hasn’t already).  Thanks to Deb at CosmopolisFilm.

Can I just say – it takes a lot for me to fangirl over an actress.  I tend to do it over Meryl Streep and occasionally Julianne Moore and Hilary Swank.  I think I now have to add Sarah to that list.  She reminds me of a female version of Rob – she just has a presence about her.

12 Months of Rob: February 2012 Choices

I’m hoping that February ends up being Bel Ami month and so to put it out there in the universe, what better way than having to choose between 3 Georges.  Just know it was hard for me to narrow it down to 3 – and this in no way means these are my ultimate faves – it’s impossible to choose and don’t even get me started on the screencaps lol.

12 Months of Rob: January 2012 Winner

I almost forgot about this since I was sidetracked with the perfection that was Rob at the PCAs.  Anyway, the UK won hands down with 44 votes, Berlin came in second with 23 and poor Barcelona Rob only had 19.  I’m a little surprised at that – Barcelona always agrees with Rob.  In case you forgot which one you voted for here’s a reminder of what was on offer.  I’m pretty sure there’s no prizes for guessing what I’m going to use for February … oh and fan page has been updated.

Bel Ami “Best Written Upcoming Movie”

Yes you read that right.  According to Anne McElvoy of the London Evening Standard this —–>

“An eminent film critic has just told me he thinks some of the best writing is now on the small screen, not the large one, and he may well be right. For all its Spielbergian glory, War Horse has a baggy, pedestrian script and can’t add much to the National’s production. Still, there are signs of intellectual life in the cinema in 2012: the best-written upcoming movie I’ve seen is the riveting romp of Bel Ami, with Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas in Maupassant’s masterpiece.

Again, it succeeds because the original work is both sexy and clever: a plot turning on multifarious adultery, secret plans to invade Morocco and the power of the 1880s press. And, yes, of course we like to watch Uma in a velvet frock-coat, bewitching the arriviste Robert Pattinson as Georges: but we do have to keep half an eye on the machinations of the proprietors and French intentions in Africa to fully enjoy it.

Like a lot of critics, I’ve done my share of moaning about dumbing down. So credit where it is due: this looks rather like the year of dumbing up. Sex on screen is cheering. Sex and sensibility’s even better.”

Putting my hand up for “dumbing up”.
