Oh this is going to make so many people not happy.  I received my eOne “Dispatch” today and apparently:

In Cinemas November 20

Map to the Stars

Sydney and Melbourne subscribers, Maps to the Stars is getting an exclusive release in your city on November 20. From the brilliant mind of David Cronenberg comes this fantastically disturbing Hollywood satire. Following its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, The Telegraph UK gave the film a full 5 star review calling it “a nightmare you don’t want to wake from.” The Guardian was equally entranced and gave the film 4 stars, calling it “twisted, twisty, gripping” and “positively vivisectional.”

Cronenberg enlists a star-studded cast to portray his darkly comic Tinseltown tragics in Maps to the Stars, including Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson. Moore won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her role as Havana, a washed-up movie star desperate to get her career back on track. Australia’s Wasikowska stars as Agatha, a mysterious young woman with a dark past who returns to LA and becomes Havana’s PA – a.k.a. “chore whore.” She is also the estranged daughter of Stafford Weiss (John Cusack), famed self-help therapist to the stars, and Cristina Weiss (Olivia Williams), who sees to the every need of their son Benjie (Evan Bird), a tween star fresh out of rehab at the tender age of 13.” [my emphasis]

Whether this means it’s coming to Sydney/Melbourne first or whether it means it’s only coming to Sydney/Melbourne – I’m still waiting on confirmation.

Stay tuned people of Qld, WA, Tassie, NT and SA.

Hmmm. Not going to panic yet – surely someone out here in the sticks will want to show this film – please? I mean, ‘Cosmopolis’ was on at one of the larger cinema complexes, so I’m hoping MTTS will at least get an indie cinema showing. Otherwise, there is going to be ONE PISSED OFF CINEMA FAN!!! Maria, thanks for trying to soften the blow – you think of everyone!

Hmmm. Fortunately I’m a little partial to both Sydney and Melbourne at that time of year……. Even so, I’ll be joining the “not happy brigade” if the rest of us don’t get a look in re Maps at our cinemas at some point.

@Trish different distributors unfortunately. eOne (Hopscotch) distributed Bel Ami – did you get that at larger cinema complexes?

Eek. I hope this isn’t a Tale of Two Cities. My fingers and toes are crossed for everyone. Surely a Cannes entrant would get a wider release than that

I’m glad for the fact that we are getting it released here at all. I was worried we may not have gotten it.

    Best birthday news ever.
