@ephie I don’t know if my review will do it justice because I will just wax lyrical. I’m seeing it again tomorrow with @Vertigo – maybe we can do something together or maybe we can entice @lise-lou to do one. Her email to me last night certainly had great insight. @Jules? I think we’ve all walked away with something different sticking in our minds. For me one of the things that stuck was the fact that Eric seems to lose pieces of clothing throughout the film be it his sunglasses, tie, jacket and to me that symbolised the decontruction or disintegration of society and I guess Eric … if that makes sense. Don’t know if that’s what Cronenberg was doing, but I guess the beauty of Cronenberg is that you can take away what you want.

It’s definitely a film that needs to be seen several times and I’m sure you will take something else away with each screening.

Anyway there’s so much good in this film, Ephie I can’t wait until you see it.

Oh dear God, just saw the new banner ~ brilliant, Jules, brilliant! And I thought you couldn’t possibly outdo your last one …. what do I know?!

Re Margaret & David’s review ~ well, I won’t hold my breath. But I will say, having seen it twice ~ the 1st time it was me and about a dozen others, ALL guys (Cronenberg fans?), the 2nd time an even split of male/female (no walk-outs in either) …. I got the feeling it was pretty well received. For the sake of the movie, I hope their review is good, so that more people will give it a chance ~ no promotion here in Brisbane AT ALL, sadly.

Saw Cosmopolis today (thanks to the free tickets from RPAU competition!) at a 4pm screening – me and my partner and two other women in the audience. The two women walked out(!) 20 minutes into the movie leaving only me and my partner to watch in peace. I was riveted to my seat for the entire two hours – I was so tense I had cramps in my shoulders afterwards. The level of tension builds to the final climax (which I’m glad to say, did not show the ultimate intention of the Giamatti character – I don’t think I could have watched that). It was the most compelling, brilliantly intelligent film I’ve seen in forever – no-one makes movies like this anymore. I’m so proud that Rob was a part of this – he portrayed Eric like a living sculpture of liquid nitrogen that as the movie progresses, begins to melt and ultimately shatters as he finally acknowledges the emptiness of his life. I too, noticed the progressive loss of articles of clothing, Maria, and yeah, everything in cinema is symbolic so I’m sure Cronenberg intended that too.
If you’re looking to be ‘entertained’ or for a bit of light escapism, avoid this movie. If you have a brain and think about the big questions of what it is to live in this time and on this planet, this movie is a must. See it. And not just for Rob.
Thank you ladies for the free tickets – you are awesome!

I saw Cosmopolis today and absolutely loved it…totally glued to my seat the whole time, and just loved that there were so many close-ups of Robs beautiful face. Most of the audience were guys, and no-one left. I also agree that I was pleased that it ended the way it did with no more detail. Will watch it over and over again, as I have all of his movies. Patiently waiting for the Australian release of Bel Ami on dvd/blu-ray next month, as I loved that one too:)

Wow @Trish I’m so glad we were able to give you the opportunity to see this film and I love this line ” he portrayed Eric like a living sculpture of liquid nitrogen that as the movie progresses, begins to melt and ultimately shatters as he finally acknowledges the emptiness of his life” – that’s a perfect description!

Ephie – see right there – now do you realise why I say my review probably won’t do it justice. This film is a work of art – like movies should be – not always about blowing up buildings, happy ever after but about real life. Well as real as being a billionaire can get …

PS. Trish I saw your email and I will respond when I get a moment, but it was definitely our pleasure and we love giving people the opportunity to appreciate Rob in all his glory :)

@Sue no promotion here in Sydney either. None.

Posted On: August 4th, 2012 By: Maria

Oh Trish, that is just the PERFECT description re: Eric – LOVE that. I would love to be able to do a review but seriously no words I could come up with would do Rob’s performance & the film justice. All I will say to people is – SEE IT, you will NOT regret it for a minute. Such an amazing journey we are taken on.

So glad we could help you be a part of this wonderful experience Trish, is our pleasure. Seeing Rob on the big screen is a MUST. This is one film that CANNOT be missed :D
