Gulp – What’s this I see – people actually impressed not just by the trailer but also by Rob.  I must have woken up in a parallel universe:

Collider:

In Bel Ami, he plays a character who fucks his way up the social ladder of 1890s Paris, and in Cosmopolis, his character purposely shoots himself in the hand.  I can take or leave Bel Ami, but Cosmopolis looks pretty great, and I’m eager to see Pattinson break free of his famous mopey vampire..

FirstShowing:

“Come on, do it, flip the switch…” A very short, early teaser trailer has debuted online … for David Cronenberg’s next new film, Cosmopolis, starring Robert Pattinson as a multi-millionaire who spends 24 hours crossing all of Manhattan in a limo. This definitely looks like there’s a bit more than a limo in it, including plenty (and I mean plenty) of sex and violence and nightclubs and guns and everything else. “Bizarre occurrences and an authentic parade of crazy characters along the way, in a landscape that depicts the modern soul of the West at the end of the millennium.” This looks wild, and it’s only our very first tease!

The Playlist:

It looks, to be frank, absolutely brilliant, and it‘s certainly dampened any doubts we might have had for the time being. And R-Patz? Damned if he doesn’t look, in the very brief glimpses, right at home. Is it possible that all the doubters are about to be proved wrong with a terrific performance?

TheFilmStage:

With a Cannes premiere almost certain, we’ve got our first look at David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis with a new international teaser. The director came back last year after a five-year absence with the disappointing A Dangerous Method, but judging from this quick tease, he is back to doing what he does best.

CinemaBlend:

And Pattinson, of course, is the pale and sparkly star of the Twilight franchise, movies that are engineered to suck all acting talent out of its stars– if the kid can act, we haven’t seen it yet. But 30 seconds from now you’ll probably be able to put all those doubts to rest, because a short teaser for Cosmopolis is here, and it is fantastic.

The Insider:

The world will get its first full look at Cosmopolis, the latest film from daring filmmaker David Cronenberg, at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but a new teaser trailer gives us a first glimpse at the film now and I am seriously impressed.

Granted the quickly edited promo only allows for the visuals, and not Robert’s performance, to stand out, but all signs point to this being the kind of role that could finally give him the non-Twilight hit (critically if not commercially) that has thus far eluded him.

THR:

Robert Pattinson will once again play dark and brooding, but his latest role proves he can do more than pine and sparkle.  The Twilight star plays a 28-year-old playboy billionaire who goes for a deadly limo ride in David Cronenberg’s upcoming Cosmopolis. Self-interested, acquisitive and nihilistic, Pattinson goes very against type from his Edward Cullen character in the vampire films, leaning more toward the manipulative philanderer of Bel Ami, which opens June 8.

Flix66:

AS much as I want to make fun of Robert Pattinson, I do think the guy has some talent and it’s evident in this lightning-quick teaser trailer (the whole thing is barely 30 seconds).  It looks like it has a great mix of violence, sex and mystery to keep it going…This sounds like typical fare for director David Cronenberg and a great opportunity for Robert Pattinson.

UpandComers:

As the British actor looks to shed his Twilight image, and the famed director aims to gain back some of the critical acclaim that rumours would suggest he has recently lost, we see Pattinson’s Eric Packer shoot himself in the hand, have sex in a limosine and ask us darkly to “show me something I don’t know”.

Actually, it looks like Pattinson is showing us something we don’t know.

Actually it WAS something we did know but thanks for finally joining us on the same page.

Oh yeah, we know alright! FINALLY people, you see & acknowledge what we have known for YEARS now. About time you caught up.

Love these reviews – seeing Rob receive the praise he so truly deserves makes me happy beyond words.

Thanks so much for posting Maria. It’s a long crappy day ahead today work wise but who freakin’ cares when we have Eric to daydream about *drifts off* That voice…

    WE TOLD YOU SO!

    Lol.

I saw a tweet this morning that said “this will kickstart the era of hypocritical men backtracking on Pattinson. “I always liked Rob” …”

Can almost hear it, can’t you?

    Proud of you, Rob x

@maria, I had the same reaction at 1:00am this morning when I was reading these reviews. I wanted to scream out loud and dance around the room!!!
What a reception to Cosmopolis. I still cannot find the words to express how happy and how proud I am of Rob. Even from a few seconds of footage they can see how good he is going to be in this role. Well done Rob!! go get ’em

LOl @Cindy – Not A Single Fuck Was Given … quite apt considering we were called rude and disgusting last night – I figured I might as well live up to the reputation.

  • Maria
    Posted on March 23, 2012

    @shell I hope so.

There’s one thing I know for sure though if the reactions to this teaser are anything to go by and that is – this movie is going to separate the “actual” Rob fans from the ones hiding behind one of his characters. I’ve seen the stupidity being tweeted – you don’t have to go and see the film if you don’t want to – it’s quite okay – the 1% here is more than happy to support him.

PMSL!!! That is just brilliant @Maria Thanks Hon. They sure left the gates to the asylum open last night! 😛 & Rude and disgusting hey? Oh well at least you weren’t called late for dinner now that would be horrible! 😛

Great reviews for only 30 secs. Completely agree that this is going to separate the Rob fans from “Edward” fans. Frankly I’ll be happy for him to lose those *ahem*kiddiefans*ahem*.
Lol sorry but their screaming really does my head in!!!

Ain’t that the truth Maria, this film really will separate the true Rob fans from the pretenders. The 1% is all Rob needs – the real fans that appreciate the brilliant talent this man possesses. To all the people that are spouting the negative comments about Cosmopolis *waves bye bye* oh & good riddance!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the awesome reaction to the trailer. EXACTLY what Rob & the film deserve. 159 days to go, August 30 CANNOT get here FAST enough!!

@ephie how great is this ride. He’s so stealthy .. I love love love his choices for films. Love that Cronenberg had the vision to enlist Rob for this role and love that Rob pushed himself to do it.

Colin Pfftarrell thank you for deciding that you would rather be compared to Arnie in a remake that I still can’t believe was given the green light, than work with Cronenberg and to be honest I don’t think you have the swagger …

  • Michelle

*nods* to your comments Maria. I am so proud of Rob, so so very proud. David I LOVE you for having faith in Rob, you are a very smart man.

LOL true that Maria, no one can match Rob’s swagger. I swear I could sit & stare at that gif all day long. Big thanks Colin – cheers!

This is the beginning girls! This is the ride that Rob has deserved from the beginning. He just needed someone like Cronenberg to give him his ticket. I am in awe of the man.
@Maria – ITA. I am so grateful for Colin Farrell’s stupidity.

@Ladies – I missed the troll and the epicenes last night because I had guests. I only logged on for 34 seconds x 2 after a frantic contact from Martha to get my arse over to RPAU for the teaser (thank God she did too). I know I used a fair bit of grown up language, so thanks to all of you ladies for being there, keeping the bastards honest and the place freak free. I love my RPAU home just the way it is.
Also. Sometimes swearing is totally appropriate. EG: Fucking awesome Cosmopolis teaser 🙂

Finally people are acknowledging what we’ve always known. Thank you David Cronenberg for having confidence in Rob and giving him this opportunity. I’m so proud of Rob for having the confidence to become Eric Packer. And thank you, Collin Farrell, for dropping out. Honestly, no one can swagger like bad-ass Rob.
