For those of you who don’t follow us on Twitter, it’s been a fight to the death for the last week in voting for Cosmopolis to take out MTV’s Movie Brawl.  In fact, I’m finding it hard to type this given the RSI I’m suffering and Vicky can attest to the same!   We beat Breaking Dawn 2, we beat The Dark Knight Rises (easily) and then they thought Rob would lose to The Hunger Games – well one thing’s for sure – they have no idea when it comes to the loyalty we, as Rob’s fans, have.  Maybe now the industry will see that it’s not sparkly Edward that keeps us interested but the actor that is Robert Pattinson!

Here’s what MTV had to say:

“The final buzzer has sounded, the brawl for it all is over, and Robert Pattinson is the last man standing: “Cosmopolis” has won MTV Movie Brawl 2012.

His indie drama made for one hell of a Cinderella story in the vote-driven tournament to pick the must-see movie of the year. Entering the bracket as a #4 seed (following an impressive showing in the play-in round), “Cosmopolis” appeared to be facing an unavoidable Elite Eight ouster. What were the chances Pattinson’s cerebral film about a young finance wiz taking a day-long limo ride though New York City would beat “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2”? Apparently pretty good. Fans banded together, choosing to support RPattz’s post-vampire career rather than the franchise that made him a star. “Breaking Dawn” was sent packing.

And so, after easily fighting off “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Cosmopolis” came to face “The Hunger Games,” a brand-new franchise that had waltzed through the tournament and seemed to be the odds-on favorite to win the whole tourney. But it was not to be. After more than 3 million votes and a slew of lead changes, Pattinson’s film beat back Jennifer Lawrence’s series to become the undisputed champion of the Movie Brawl. (Maria: my emphasis and fist pumps)

Hours before voting closed Monday afternoon (January 23), with “Cosmopolis” staking out an insurmountable lead and the MTV Movies team at the Sundance Film Festival, we broke the news to Pattinson’s co-star, Paul Giamatti, that their film had won the tournament.

“Holy cow, that’s astounding!” he said. “The fact of that is amazing. … That’s a really cool thing that it brings that visibility to that movie.”

A BIG BIG thank you to everyone who helped get this over the line.   Michelle, Vertigo, Lise-Lou, Suze and Jules – huge group hug – hahaha.  Yeah we might have gone over the top a little, but it was fun!

Wooooooooooooo hoooooooooo *dances around the room* VICTORY!!!! *fist pump* It sure has been a fight *wipes brow* Vote, click, vote, click, vote, click. It feels wrong sitting here not doing that lol. RSI is definitely in full swing but it is oh so sweet. Cosmopolis knocked them all down one by one to take it’s rightful place at the top. BRILLIANT job Rob fans, brilliant job *high five* No one can ever doubt our dedication when it comes to this man – us TRUE fans. Exactly Maria. ROB is who we are interested in, HIM – not any vampire. Maybe these people will realise that now.

Hehehe *giant hugs* to you girls. Sure was fun Maria, sure was 😀 I LOVE that pic you used -OH SO PERFECT.

2012 – the year of ROB!!!

OMG!! Is it over?? Did we do it?? *nervous twitch* I am seriously SOOOO happy right now – well done to ALL Rob’s fans who pulled together and voted. Yes it was a silly poll and yes we need to get bums on seats at the end of the day but the publicity this brings in is amazing and surely this sends out a positive message to everyone – Rob is so much MORE to us than just Edward. (love the pic choice by the way Maria!!). He is here to stay and so are we – his real fans. 🙂 Brilliant post too – brings a tear to my eye. I just can’t tell you how happy I am right now….for every hateful comment that was made against him in certain corners it just fuelled us on. Do not mess with our guy. 🙂

*huge group hug* to you girls and to everyone out there who voted for Rob. This was epic!!!!

    Victory! The battle was won!
Well that was most exciting thing I’ve ever seen on Twitter! We knew that true Rob fans are dedicated, but who knew we were so competitive? *giggles* It all became a bit addictive. I couldn’t scroll past anyone’s tweet if it had a link. I was compelled to follow everyone’s link and vote multiple times.

What exciting times! Gooooooo Cosmopolis *shakes pom poms*

On a side note, in the last couple of weeks I’ve seen 2 Paul Giamatti movies, Win Win & Barney’s Version, that I’d say have been 2 of the best movies that I’ve seen in a very long time. Watching them and loving them made me all the more excited to see Cosmopolis.

Awesome job everyone! Tested my patience at times, but so worth it in the end! And now I know why Maria’s been a little quiet lately!!! Pretty impressive victory for our gorgeous guy! Three cheers!

LOL @Jules – exactly re the hateful comments. They are unnecessary and now they are all claiming we are either twihards, cougars, robsessed, have no lives – no lives? Hahaha my real life is just dandy thanks and it doesn’t involve me sitting on the net 24/7. Anyway all I hear/see is wah wah wah wah wah. You can pigeonhole us whatever way you want, but just know that we were fans before Twilight – we will be fans post Twilight. You can continue your cyberbullying, namecalling, hate because all it does is spur us on. And the so called fans of Rob who devote time to dissing him 24/7 – move on – your negativity is only affecting you – noone cares.

It might be a stupid poll and it probably means nothing, other than for once Rob’s fan pulled together and showed what a force we can be. Bums on seats is what’s important and realistically it’s not going to match the crazy box office numbers that Hunger Games will probably get, but noone ever said it would – how do you compare an indie film to a big budget pull out all stops franchise – you can’t. It’s not like we are expecting it to make $250 million – noone is, but as long as it garners attention and attracts new fans then that’s all that matters.

Stepping off soapbox … for now.

    Standing ovation Jules and Maria!!!!

This fandom for lack of a better word just astounds me at times. How people say some of what they say and expect people to see them as actual fans of Rob is beyond belief!! In terms of this poll, it was never about Cosmopolis being more successful than Hunger Games, we’ve had the conversation before about monetary gain and how it does or doesn’t equate to success. This was about showing support to one hell of an actor and the awesome film that I have no doubt Cosmopolis will be. I found Rob through Twilight, I am not ashamed to say that BUT, I stay a fan in spite of it and all the BS that goes with it because I believe in Rob and want to see where his talent takes him. That’s the bottom line, if you don’t believe in Rob then move on, will you be missed? I seriously doubt it!!!

Sorry I had to add my two cents worth after reading comments in some other places. Why I ever stray from here i will never know *shakes head*.

Justice!!! So looking forward to this. Thanks to you all for your remarks – I agree and thanks Maria for posting. GO ROBERT – can’t wait to see what Rob will be working on next – he did give a hint about screenplays!!

There are NO WORDS to express how proud I am right now to be part of such a wonderful fandom. Yes – Yes – Yes – We did it!!! We are showing them that we are fans of Rob’s and not here just because of Edward Cullen and Twilight.
I am right with you @maria and @jules – let the haters hate. That’s what they do anyway but when did that ever deter us his true fans? NEVER did and never will!!!

What a wonderful message to Rob and to Mr Cronenberg as well – his fans are behind him 100% of the way. I also agree with Jules we have to get bums on seats at the end of the day but this is a great start. Rome was not built in day after all…
The year of Rob is well and truly started!!

The only upsetting thing is that I am at work and could not get up and do a little dance when I read your post @maria…I don’t think it would have gone down very well lol!

  • Sue
    Posted on January 24, 2012

Awesome job, Everyone! *happy dance*! I think we deserve a Sydney premiere after that effort, don’t you think?!

  • Maria

Still doing the happy dance 😀 The power of Rob & his true fans – never ever doubt it people’s! Makes me so happy to see all of us band together, all behind him 100% – exactly what he deserves.

As far as the haters go – you make me sick with your vile hatred. If you think your disgraceful comments deter us in any way you are sadly mistaken. As the girls have mentioned above, it only spurs us on even more. Us unlike you have followed this man long before Twilight & will be right here following him every step of the way as his career goes from strength to strength. Move along & bother someone else cause the affect you have on us is zero. Sad, sad people you are.

Ooohhh did I hear Sydney premiere *grins* YES PLEASE. Got everything tightly crossed.

Fingers & toes crossed, rosary beads out (again!), chanting to the Gods, selling off our first-borns …… whatever it takes for another Sydney Rob moment!!!!

  • Maria
    Posted on January 24, 2012

@Vicky you can say whatever you want here (as long as you agree with us *giggles*). No in all honesty I get that people see us as one eyed and that Rob can do no wrong, but it’s not really true. He’s not perfect, he’s not the best actor out there *yet*, but it’s the faith we have in him and the talent I can see lurking within. I saw it in Haunted Airman, I saw it in Little Ashes, we get glimpses of it in Twilight and in all honesty – considering the pathetic scripts he was handed, it’s amazing you see it at all. The bullshit comments I see elsewhere – well I’m very happy to have this little bubble, where you aren’t embarassed to fangirl over him and you won’t get abused for doing it – it’s a “FANSITE” that’s what we are supposed to do.

And for those who come over and tell me I should provide constructive criticism … next time David Cronenberg phones me up to offer me any roles I’ll voice my opinion.

  • Maria

@Carolyn I’ve always loved Paul Giamatti since I saw him with Thomas Haden Church in Sideways

Wahooooooooo! The sweet taste of victory and all the chins that probably hit the floor can now see that Rob is a force to be reckoned with. I’m so glad it’s over though and that pending visit to the Osteopath is so worth it in the end. *rubs shoulder*

Off to read all the excitement from you guys that I’ve missed, don’t be fooled though, I’ve not stopped dancing since my computer screen froze on the voting and I received that text from Maria. LOL

Jules see, you believed and look what we all accomplished. Brilliant!

Go Cosmopolis! The little movie that can.

Hilarious that it squashed the giant that is BD so early on in the game. BWAH!

Goodness me, ladies! You’re all truly amazing! Not being a tweeter & somehow completely ignorant of all this (both the voting and the hating you’re discussing), I’m blissfully unaware (and shall remain so, except for what i read on here)…..
Freaking love that pic with that caption Maria!!! Gold. Well done on shoving one up the big budgets & haters, (along with generating the positive feedback this is for Rob & Cosmopolis). ITA @Vicky, great words, with you 100%. Maria you are Superwoman, love your work. xx

can I just say I love you all?? thank you.

You are all awesome – gives me hope that one day (soon hopefully) the crappola surrounding him will blow over and all that will be left is Rob and his TRUE fans. The rest aren’t worth the effort.

Today was only tolerable due to my internal fistpumping now and then and a yeah baby – we did it!! LOL

    🙂

Just now catching up. Wonderful post, Maria! A job well done by all! I have no doubt that Hunger Games will achieve bigger numbers at the box office. But this poll brought some much deserved attention to ‘Cosmopolis’. And the team effort made a statement loud and clear: Rob is FAR more to us than ‘Edward Cullen’ and we will continue to support his career every step of the way.
