According to Box Office Mojo:

“Water for Elephants retreated 46 percent to an estimated $9.1 million for a $32.3 million sum in ten days. Its percentage decline was almost as steep as Dear John and The Time Traveler’s Wife, among comparable fare.”

BOM also provides a total of worldwide estimates as $40,263,000 which when broken down means foreign $8 million and domestic (US) figures $32,263,000.  Well in 10 days they have definitely covered the cost of making the film and then some.  I cannot wait to see how these figures will change once the movie is released everywhere else.  It’s currently no. 4 over the weekend thanks to the release of that action film – the likes of which I’ve never bothered with LOL.

They do love being negative though don’t they @Maria?!
How about instead of saying “WFE retreated” saying something like “after a start that surpassed all expectations, WFE is holding strong to in it’s expected rank in the weekend figures”? (or something along those lines that is phrased in a way thatb actually makes sense)
    I’d like that better 🙂

I’m not sure what these people expect. This is a very different film to normal Hollywood fare ( I wish they would stop comparing to Dear John, that’s just all sorts of wrong) and as yet hasn’t opened worldwide. I think there are still many who prefer to see the glass half empty, so sad really *shakeshead*.

I agree with you girls. But I’m so happy it’s done so well *clapshands*. I do prefer to see the glass half full. And I’m so proud to have contributed to the earnings, I’ve seen it so many times already and I’m not done yet! I’ve taken all my family and friends, hell who haven’t I’ve taken to see this movie? I don’t think I’ve missed anyone.

I can’t for you girls to see on Friday, and he’ll be there with all of you GAHHHH!!!! I’m so excited for you all!!!!
