Is She Isn’t She … Keira Knightley NOT in Cosmopolis

I swear news about Rob’s costars in Cosmopolis is starting to give me whiplash.  So the latest is that Keira’s NOT playing Rob’s wife in the film.  According to Linda Ge from Up&Comers:

Keira Knightley will not be appearing in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis”, the actress’s reps confirmed to us today. Knightley was brought into the casting conversation following some eagle-eyed fans seeing her name listed alongside star Robert Pattinson’s on the production company’s website. When the internet exploded with the news, her name was quickly removed and her reps declined to comment on her involvement until today, with a solid “she’s not in it”.”

I guess we will just have to wait and see whether this is in fact true or not.  Like I’ve said before, we didn’t find out about Emilie in Remember Me until a few days before production started so it’s anyone’s guess.  Seriously the role of Eric’s wife is almost as elusive as the wife herself.

It certainly seems to be turning out that way Maria. For some reason I can’t help thinking about the Scarlett Pimpernel, they seek him here they seek him there (or in this case her), LOL!! I really wouldn’t have thought it would be that hard to find someone to play Rob’s/Eric’s wife.

@Vicky I think being opposite Rob is a daunting thing – usually these Hollywood women are used to being the prettiest – not gonna happen opposite Rob.

As long as he’s Eric I really don’t care who plays his wife. They can pick me for all I care. LOL. And @Maria I totally agree with you too. Nope they aren’t going to find anyone prettier then him, impossible.

I didn’t want to tell anyone, but I will play Mrs Packer… repeatedly, in my dreams.

@Cindy – I’ve been jumping out of my skin to talk to someone about this book. Rob is going to be f-ing brilliant as Eric. What a read!

@Cindy, I won’t give any spoilers – let’s just say I’m very, very excited. It’s one of those books I am very happy to go back to the beginning and re read it again straight away. Although I know my enjoyment was enhanced by visualizing Rob as Eric, the language & ideas used by Don DeLillo held me just as captive.

I have to agree with everyone, Rob is going to be awesome as Eric!!! A brillant book and I have no doubt the movie wll be just as good.

Maria, i see your point, that ain’t gonna happen. I have to agree with Martha as well, as long as Rob is Eric the rest really isn’t going to matter to me.

Absolutely @Vicky & @Martha – I mean he’s in every freakin scene – oh dear I knew this was going to happen – is it 2012 yet – hahahaha.

I’m just imagining the first glimpse we get of Eric – lordy lordy – is it May/June yet. Oh to be a fly on the inside of that limo …

ok ok, you ladies have talked me into it….if it’s really that good a read, I might have to order a copy! But that’s going to be an awfully long time to look forward to seeing him in the role once I can imagine it 🙁 This W4E wait is killing me but the book is keeping me company in the meantime, lol!

I know what you mean Maria, there are already a couple of scenes that i cannot wait to see. Wishing my life away i know but I just can’t help it.

@Val it’s a completely different read to WFE which is light and fluffy. You either love or hate Dom DeLillo – this is not one of his more popular novels and a lot of critics hated Cosmopolis when it was released. I’m looking forward to seeing how Rob interprets the character, but it will also depend on what Cronenberg does with the script. I just wanted you to know in case you really don’t want to read it.

I really want Rob to do Kill Your Friends – I keep saying it in the hope that once it’s out there it will happen – *postivethoughtspositivethoughts*. Yeah I doubt it’s even been signed. Rob you know you want to do it.

I’m about 100 pages away from finishing. Haven’t been able to read as quickly as I would have liked *shakes fist at work* Will be able to finish on the weekend though 😀

Ohhh I would SO love Rob to do Kill Your Friends as well Maria. That would be brilliant!!!

I was hoping he would do Confessions of a Justified Sinner, it looked really interesting. So much choice for him now. it really is wonderful.

Yes @Vicky – I still haven’t read my copy, but I was hoping he would do it too – but it seems he might be typecasting himself. Still – everyone was very silent about that and it was never debunked so you never know … could still be waiting for the ink to dry *fingerscrossed*. Surely Summit aren’t going to keep him completely busy promoting BD once he’s finished Cosmopolis – although I can almost hear them crying now that the cashcow is coming to an end.

My copy only just arrived so I have that to look forward to after Cosmopolis. Rob certainly is broadening my literary horizons!!!

I thought it might be a little typecast but sounded like such a great role.

How is Mrs Packer described in the book?

    Carmel

    • February 10, 2011 at 10:46 pm

@Caro – I’d love to answer that question but to do so also starts analysing the book. It is too hard to censor myself once I get started. I feel like I could write an essay on Cosmopolis.
However, I agree with Maria. Parts of this book are confrontational. It only works because of the rare impact of the writing and it will not be simple to turn it into a quality script. My fingers are crossed too.

I have read the book but can’t say that I love it. Won’t go into it here though as don’t want to spoilt it for others. But no matter what I thought of the book…..am pumped to see what Rob does with the role and in fact how the script will go. It is an amazing opportunity for Rob for the role and to work with Cronenberg and already have played out in my head my favourite scenes. I love the path that Rob is taking and he really is making some savvy and mature choices.

I am disappointed if Keira is out, I really could see her in the role but then again think that Marion would have been amazing as well.

Cronenberg knows his stuff so will look forward to future cast updates.

You’re right Maria even if I think Cronenberg should find someome to play Eric’s wife who will be able to bring something intriguing to a character who’s barely there, if you allow me to say…. I like I like Keira and I thought together with Rob they might have some chemistry going on as long as they don’t pout too much together….hehehe! Will see though! I’m just too happy he’s got that part!
